Episode 20: You Are My Only Oasis
With those words, Inukai-san took off her clothes and headed straight for the bath, as if to say she had lost all interest in my sister and me.
“……….” “Big Sister?” “I-It’s nothing! Come on, let’s just get changed and go back to our room.”
My sister watched Inukai-san’s retreating figure with a complicated expression.
“It doesn’t look like it’s nothing, though. More importantly, Big Sister—” “W-What is it?” “Did you think about dropping out and selling your body?”
“T-That was… only as a last resort if things got really bad. I was willing to try everything first, and only if there was no other way would I have gone through with it. If I could at least get you through university, I planned to stop after that…”
“Big sister…” “Don’t look at me like that, Rion. Besides, like Inukai-san said, thanks to Yuya-kun, Dad’s company didn’t collapse, and I didn’t have to go through with that. So stop making that face!”
Even so, it didn’t change the fact that my sister had been forced to sacrifice herself. Telling me not to look this way was asking for the impossible.
“Are you really okay with this, Big Sister?” “I’m grateful, honestly. Thanks to Yuya-kun getting engaged to me, no one had to suffer.”
“But because of that, you’re stuck in an engagement with someone you don’t even like—”
“Alright, alright, that’s enough! This conversation is over!! Besides, who knows? Maybe life with Yuya-kun won’t be so bad after all.”
She forcefully ended the discussion, but no matter how I looked at it, her face didn’t seem happy at all.
“You didn’t go home?” “I figured I might as well enjoy a free breakfast from the prestigious Saijo family before leaving!”
“Why the hell are you acting so high and mighty? You’re just a freeloader at this point.”
“H-How rude!! You could at least phrase it a little more delicately! If you think you can make my sister happy with that kind of attitude, you’re sorely mistaken!”
“Good grief… It’s way too early in the morning for this headache…”
I had assumed that the sisters would have gone home first thing in the morning, so when I found out they were still here and planning to have breakfast with me, I genuinely wondered if the world was ending.
Seriously, her voice was like a hammer pounding on my groggy, half-asleep brain.
“Are you alright, Yuya-sama?” “Yeah… You’re my only oasis, Misaki.”

Episode 21: I Shouldn’t Have Helped Yesterday
“Oh my, Yuya-sama, that won’t do. Your fiancée is right here. Besides, you and I live in completely different worlds, and our statuses are far too different.”
“Misaki, no need to provoke them.”
“My apologies… I never imagined that a day would come when Yuya-sama would call me his oasis. I got carried away and instinctively tried to assert dominance over the easiest target in front of me.”
“O-Oh… I see.” “Yes, exactly.” What is this? This tense atmosphere…
It feels like Misaki is the main cause of this awkward tension. Did something happen between her and these sisters yesterday?
Regardless of what might have happened, I can sense that bringing it up would be a terrible idea. So, I pretend not to notice anything and quietly start eating breakfast.
If I were to meddle now, I could only see things getting worse, so I decided to stay out of it.
“Now that I think about it, Hojo… Oh, right, there are two of you. Ayane, since you’re wearing your uniform, I take it you’re feeling better?”
“Yes, that’s correct. I apologize for showing such an unsightly state yesterday.
On top of that, you not only let me stay another night out of concern for my health, but you also saved my sister from being attacked. And now, you’re even letting us have breakfast together. I’m truly grateful.”
“Well, as long as you’re feeling better, that’s good. And it looks like your sister, Rion, is doing fine too.
Considering how fiercely she’s snapping at me, I take it she hasn’t developed any trauma from the incident, which is a relief.”
“Huh? I-I didn’t need your help! I could’ve handled it on my own just fine!! Your so-called help was just an annoying inconvenience!!”
“Still, I’m really glad nothing happened… “W-What…? You’re throwing me off…”
“Hm? What was that?” “N-Nothing!! Shut up!!”
I pretend not to hear her, but from the way this is going, it seems like both Ayane and Rion don’t have the worst possible opinion of me anymore.
I quietly let out a sigh of relief, making sure they didn’t notice. Maybe—just maybe—my chances of survival have slightly improved.
At the very least, I feel like my death flag related to these sisters has been somewhat reduced.
Otherwise, all my efforts to help Rion last night, even at the risk of sneaking out in the middle of the night and dealing with a scumbag who might have stabbed me, would have been completely meaningless.
Thinking about this, I finish my breakfast in an atmosphere so silent it feels like a funeral. Afterward, I head back to my room to prepare for school.
When Misaki and I step outside, as usual, a black limousine is waiting, ready to depart at any time. And, of course, the Hojo sisters are also there.
“Y-You’re late!! How long were you planning to keep us waiting!?” …Why do I suddenly feel like I shouldn’t have helped yesterday?
Is my heart just that tainted?
