When I was Reincarnated into a Game World, I Was a Farmer’s Son - Chapter 44
Chapter 44
My battle with those the Mog Treants was a big failure, but after that, I was able to hunt them down smoothly.
To avoid fighting multiple of them at once, I went to areas where Mog treants are likely to appear and used Appraisal skill on suspicious looking trees.
It seems that the effective range of the Mog Treants branch attacks is about 3 meters from its main body. By using Appraisal skill to locate the Mog Treants positions, I was able to engage in one-on-one battles with them in safe positions and defeat them without much trouble.
Sometimes, when I couldn’t find a Mog Treant suitable for a one-on-one fight, I would throw stones from a distance to reduce their numbers. However, throwing stones doesn’t inflict much damage, so it took a ridiculously long time to defeat it. By the time I managed to defeat one of them, my arms were exhausted from throwing the stones.
I continued to battle Mog Torrents for several months, focusing on levelling up.

It has been more and more difficult to level up, but I’m gradually getting stronger. I can’t help but to wonder how hard it would be if I didn’t know the Sapphire Earrings which gives me 5x experience boost exist. Anyway, all I can do now is continue hunting Mog Treants to level up.
In the game, the area around Machikane village has quite some strong monsters even for the protagonist to take on. Which means it will be a lot harder for a farmer boy like me if I happen to encounter one. However, in this world, it seems that the type of monsters I’ll encounter depends on how far I go into the forest.
The Marmog Treant, which is a stronger type of Mog Treant, often appeared around Machikane Village in the game.
I have a feeling that if I go into the forest even further, I will definitely encounter a Marmog Treant. Perhaps, I might also encounter some stronger type of Forest wolves or even higher ranked monsters.
I won’t stand a chance against them right now, so for safety reasons, I’ve decided to refrain from going deeper into the forest for the time being. I’ll just work hard on levelling up while enjoying my peaceful life for now.
Then one day, while helping with the farm work as usual in the morning, I noticed something strange.
Our farm mainly consists of wheat fields, but we also grow some vegetables. As I’m watering the vegetables as usual, something caught my eye in the corner of the field.
Are they wilting? As I approach those vegetables, I notice that they are withered, unlike the others around them. On top of that, there are some purplish spots on them. The soil around those vegetables also seems somewhat purplish…
I decided to go to my father, who is working in the wheat field to tell him about it.
“Hey, dad.”
“Hey, what is it, Neil? Are you hungry? It’s still a little early for lunch, so hold on a bit longer.”
“No, it’s not that. I was watering the vegetables, and it seems like the vegetables in the corner are wilting, so I came to let you know.”
“Oh no, they’re wilting, huh? Maybe they didn’t get enough fertilizer. Well, it can’t be helped.”
“But, they seem kind of strange.”
“Strange? What do you mean?”
“The vegetables have purple spots on them, and even the soil around them seems purplish.”
“Eh, don’t tell me. Purple means are they poisonous…!!!”
In the middle of the conversation, Dad’s face suddenly turned stern.
“Neil! Take me to those vegetables right away!”
“Y-Yes.”
I’m surprised by dad’s tone of voice. His expression seems to be grim.
I quickly lead Dad to those vegetables
Then as he stands in front of them, his face turns pale.
“Mylene! Mylene!!!”
Suddenly, Dad runs into the house while shouting Mom’s name. I have a bad feeling about this, dad seems to be panicking.
After a while, Dad returns to the field with Mom. Mom’s face also turns pale just like Dad’s when she sees the wilted vegetables. This seemed to be more than just a minor issue.
“Mylene! I’m going to talk to the villagers right away!”
Dad said so and immediately run towards the village.
Mom told me to help her by bringing a wooden hoe and shovel from the house. We dig up the wilted vegetables along with the purplish soil around them and packed them into several bags. Then, we carry them to a place far away from the house and the fields.
We place the bags in a spot and cover them with plenty of firewood. I actually wanted to ask Mom about the situation several times along the way, but seeing her intense expression made me hesitate.
Mom brings a bucket of oil from the house and pours it all over the firewood. Then, she ignited the it with fire magic.
I’m really surprised to see mom do that, because oil is extremely valuable in our remote village. The fire gradually grows larger, and I simply watch the flickering flames engulf everything.
When I look at mom, the is not like herself. She is usually very happy and energetic, but right now, I feel a sense of desperation from her.
Magical Withering Disease
A disease affecting plants caused by disturbances in the flow of magical energy in the earth’s veins.
The plants affected will change colour to purple and eventually wither.
Because I don’t want to bother mom any more, I decided to use the Appraisal skill on them. So those vegetables are indeed afflicted by a disease.
