Chapter 42: I Said It Because It Was Possible
“Tell me more about that—” “We’ve arrived at our destination! Alright, in you go!”
Just as I was about to try further, Minase suddenly interrupted and shoved me into the store.
She seemed somewhat flustered. Was it something she didn’t want to talk about?
I was curious, but my top priority right now was choosing a present for Kana.
I could always press Minase for answers later. After all, I had some leverage over her.
“Wow, this place is full of things Kana would love.”
The store was bursting with colorful and pop-styled items, from cute clothes to accessories and trinkets.
“See? I told you you’d find something here.” “It might take some time, but I’ll do my best.”
Everything was for the sake of making Kana happy. No matter how tough this gift selection process became, I was determined to find the perfect present.
“I’ll check out the necklaces first before looking at clothes.”
“Oh? Are you planning to get both as gifts?” “If they go well together, yeah. I’m pretty good at picking out clothes.”
“I hope you find something that suits Kana!” I answered confidently, but honestly, my expertise was in men’s fashion, not women’s.
In reality, I knew next to nothing about women’s accessories. Necklaces were especially tricky. I could try to pick one that seemed like it would suit Kana, but what I considered stylish might not align with what girls thought looked good.
Fashion had some common ground between men and women, but accessories were a whole different beast.
“Let me give you one important tip when choosing a necklace for a girl: avoid hearts and stars.”
As we moved toward the section with rings, necklaces, and bracelets, Minase raised a finger as if making an important declaration.
“As if I’d pick something that tacky—” “I’m only saying it because it’s totally something you would do, Souma.”
“No way I’d—” “If you were planning to give her a ring, you’d probably pick something like this, right? Not a simple, stylish one, but something like this?”
She pointed to a ring adorned with an emerald-like gemstone.
“…Yeah.” It was exactly what I had in mind. I couldn’t even argue.
If I were giving a ring as a gift, it had to feel special, right?
A plain, everyday fashion ring just wouldn’t sit right with me.
“See? That’s why I said it.” “Thanks for the wisdom…”
Minase smirked in a way that made it clear she was enjoying this, while I clenched my fist in frustration.
…I was going to start studying women’s fashion tonight.
Next time, I’d choose a present without needing anyone’s advice.
The fact that Minase was mocking me was infuriating.
Most of the time, she was nothing but a nuisance, but now she was acting all superior.
I wish the guys at school could see this side of her!
