- Chapter 46 - Omurice and its preparations
The Cultural Festival came to an end.
The indescribable feeling of loss accompanied the conclusion of the festival. It felt similar to the fleeting beauty of the dazzling fireworks that disappear, or the loneliness of the sparkler that once burned brightly but has now been extinguished.
From the preparation period until today, it felt like time had passed so quickly, and the end came unexpectedly.
However, I can’t help but think that this year’s Culture Festival was overall a good one.
I got to meet my long-lost best friend.
The exclusive maid who listened to stories about my past and consoled me when I broke down in tears.
And, during the festival, I realized that I have feelings for that exclusive maid.
I was able to spend just a little, but meaningful time with that exclusive maid, going around the festival together.
It was a short yet intense Culture Festival.
With a sense of gratitude in my heart, I began cleaning up.

“How long are you going to keep wearing that outfit?”
When I returned home, Yuki came to my house after the Cultural Festival.
Since she’s always busy with student council work, I thought it would be fine for her to take a break today, but she insisted on keeping her “contract” and treated me to her homemade cooking once again.
Before, those words wouldn’t have bothered me, but now they sound a little lonely.
Yuki’s attire was different from her usual self, wearing a maid uniform with a long skirt, styled for the Culture Festival with twin tails. Seeing her in the kitchen, I couldn’t help but ask that question.
“I couldn’t fully enjoy the Culture Festival, you know? So, I thought at least dressing like this would help.”
“Like an after-party style?”
“Yes, exactly. Since we don’t have an after-party at our school.”
Our school used to have an after-party in the past, but it seems it was discontinued due to complaints from the neighbors about the disturbance. Maybe someone caused trouble back then. The consequences of such actions can carry on for generations, so it’s really best to avoid causing trouble. While the present generation might enjoy it, the future ones will have to endure the consequences.
“Well, if we gather enough signatures, we might be able to have it again.”
“Huh? Is that so? But weren’t the neighbors against it?”
She explained while transferring the dishes from the frying pan to a plate.
“It seems the neighbors aren’t entirely against it. The issue raised in the past was about having underage students at school until an unreasonable hour. So when they surveyed the students about what to do with the after-party, it seems many chose not to have it.”
“I see…”
“After that, the next generation of students who wanted it appealed to the teachers, but the school, not wanting to deal with the hassle of explaining, blamed it on the neighbors, saying they’d need written permission if they wanted to do it. So, in the end, they stopped having the after-party.”
As expected of the student council president. She’s aware of even the behind-the-scenes of the school.
“Well, personally, I guess it’s fine not to have it.”
“Why is that?”
As she asked, the dishes were arranged on the kotatsu table, and a fluffy, tender omelet rice was brought over.
“Well, I mean… I just feel that way, you know?”
Of course, if there were an after-party, the student council would be occupied, and that would mean that I could spend less time with Yuki. But I can’t just say that, especially when we’re not even dating.
“Didn’t you say that you liked festivals?”
“Uh…”
Indeed, as expected of the top-ranking student council president, she remembered my previous words.
“W-Wow. Today is omelet rice, huh?”
Unable to come up with a good excuse, I blurted out an awkward line and tried to divert her attention elsewhere.
However, she didn’t call me out on my poor acting and just stared at me with a stern look.
“Some shopping person from our class apparently got carried away and bought a bunch of eggs, so they brought some back.”
“Oh? Who’s this handsome guy?”
“I heard that his name is Akira Morigami.”
“Wow. You have a sharp memory!”
“Hehe. That’s true.”
Yuki suddenly burst into laughter. It seems she found it amusing for some reason.
“Akira-kun… the protagonist… hehehe~.”
“What? I think I’m pretty protagonist-like, you know.”
“W-Well… hehe. Pufufu! Oh, by the way! Haha I can’t control it anymore!”
Though I don’t know why it’s so funny to her, she rarely laughs so hard. I find it a bit rude, though…
“Don’t just keep laughing forever; let’s eat.”
As I picked up a spoon to start eating the omelet rice, she stopped me by saying, “Wait a moment.”
Curious about what she was up to, I tilted my head, and Yuki held a bottle of ketchup in her hand.
“Today too, as a special treat, the exclusive maid will make this omurice special.”
“Wow.”
Come to think of it, she drew a picture for me the first time she made me a meal.
“What do you want to do? Shall I leave it to the maid again this time?”
“Yeah… Well, let’s go with the maid’s choice again this time, shall we?”
Since last time it was a gaming console, this time, out of simple curiosity, I asked her the same choice.
“Understood~♪”
As she fully accustomed herself in maid mode, Yuki hummed as she used the ketchup to draw on the omelet rice. Unlike last time, this time she finished with a simple stroke.
“It’s done.”
With a satisfied expression, she wiped the sweat from her forehead, showing a sense of accomplishment.
“What’s this…”
On the omelet rice, she drew a heart mark. A beautiful red line formed a heart in yellow. It was completely different from last time, a simple yet classic style.
“Ah…”
Yuki noticed something and started to feel flustered.
“This… this is not what you think! P-Please don’t misunderstand. I-It’s not like it’s directed at Akira-kun or anything. It’s just that lately, there have been a lot of requests at the maid café for this, you see…”
“I see…”
When it comes to omelets at the maid café, it’s common to see heart symbols and expressions of love, so I don’t think much of it. In fact, I haven’t become so obsessed that I’d misinterpret it and act like a virgin forever.
“Muu, well, that’s…”
I tilted my head at her sulky expression, and she responded with a slightly angry tone, “It’s nothing.”
“Anyway! Let’s do the charm now!”
“A-A charm, huh…”
“Do you remember it?”
“Sort of.”
We did it with all our might last time, but doing it consciously with the other person is a bit embarrassing, or rather, it’s shy and makes my heart race.
“Here we go. Be delicious, be delicious. Moe Moe Kyun~♥”
“Kyun…”
[TL/N : Feels a little cringy for some reasons, others might have a different opinion though]
I also made a heart with my hands and did it just like before, but Yuki didn’t seem entirely satisfied.
“What’s wrong? You don’t seem to be in good spirits today.”
“Well, um… It’s just…”
“If my master isn’t feeling well, then I will help you out.”
She said, forcibly taking my hand and making a heart sign.
Yuki finished the other half using her own hand, and our heart was also complete.
“Here we go. Be delicious. Be delicious. Moe Moe Kyun~.”
“Kyun…”
My voice came out even smaller, overwhelmed with embarrassment compared to earlier.
“Mmm, my master is really not in good spirits today.”
“Of course, this is embarrassing.”
“Oh…”
As if she didn’t realize it, Yuki lets out a sound, quickly retracting her hand.
“Do you do this kind of thing with customers at the café?”
“I-It’s not like that! I only do it with Akira-kun!”
Her words, spoken in a slightly agitated voice as if to defend herself, made me really happy.
I’m the only one she does this with. I’m special to her. This feeling of superiority sprouted within me.
“A-Ah, no, I mean… um…”
Realizing that my own words were embarrassing, Yuki stammers and flusters. In this reversal of roles from earlier, I begin to eat the omurice that Yuki made for me.
“It’s delicious…”
For some reason, today’s omurice tasted incredibly good.
It seems that the charm we chant together with someone we have a crush on has an amazing effect.
