- Chapter 39 - My best friend is a celebrity!
“What are Akira-kun and Shogo-kun’s class doing for the cultural festival?”
Yoshiki asks while looking at the pamphlet I handed him earlier. The one who replied was not me but Shogo as he seemed to be quite eager to talk with his old friend.
“Oh, we’re hosting a maid café.”
“Oh, a maid café. I’ve never been to one, so I’m looking forward to it.”
“Welcome home, master.”
“Huh? Shogo-kun is a maid?”
“That’s right.”
“No way!”
I lightly poked Shogo on the head and interjected.
“I can’t stand having a maid like you!”
“Hey, Akira. My facial attractiveness is high, you know.”
“Even if your face is pretty, I can’t tolerate a stupid maid like you.”
“Why?! There are clumsy maid characters out there!”
“You’re not clumsy, you’re just plain stupid! There’s an insurmountable wall!”
“Noooo! Am I really clumsy!?”
Seeing Shogo genuinely crestfallen, Yoshiki looked at me with a relieved expression, as if everything was as usual, and asked me,
“Only female students work at maid cafés, right?”
“Yeah, the boys work in the kitchen.”
“I see. That position suits them well.”
Yoshiki, satisfied with the explanation, suggested to us while still looking at the pamphlet.
“In that case, can I join you both to your class? I’ve always wanted to visit your class, and besides, I can sit with you and think about where to go next.”
“In terms of planning, that might be the best option.”
“Alright, let’s do it. I’ll show you my hyper maid skills.”
“But you’re a customer.”

“Welcome back, master~♪”
Our classmate, Kohaku Shirakawa, greeted us in a maid outfit that suited her perfectly.
“Oh, it’s you, Morigami-kun and Konoe-kun. Welcome back.”
Upon recognizing us as classmates, her demeanor changes to a frank one, as if a younger sister is welcoming her older brother. I think it was a good change.
“Hmm? Oh, you brought your friend?”
“Nice to meet you. I’m Kishihara, a friend from middle school.”
She looks at Yoshiki’s face and murmurs in a low voice, “Kishihara…?”
“Oh, she is our classmate Shirakawa-san.”
It feels like we were attending a parent-teacher meeting kind of greeting at a maid café, and the atmosphere was completely ruined.
“Shirakawa-san, you forgot the script.”
I reminded her, and she quickly switched gears, guiding us inside the classroom.
“Now, gentlemen. Please allow me to guide you to your seats.”
Playing the role of a maid according to the script, Shirakawa-san leads us to a makeshift four-person table by attaching four desks and spreading a tablecloth.
We could also see other maids as well, and they seemed to be quite busy even when we were in the early horse, that’s how popular maid cafes are.
“Excuse me…”
Sitting next to me is Shogo, and in front of me is Yoshiki. Truly, he has high communication skills and can easily start a conversation even with someone he meets for the first time.
“Kishihara… Are you, by any chance, Yoshiki Kishihara-kun, who played in the Koshien?”
“Oh, yes. That’s me.”
“I thought so.”
Shirakawa-san clasped her hands together, wearing an expression that resembled that of a young maiden captivated by a male idol.
“I watched the Koshien tournament. They were amazing hitters, weren’t they?”
“You watched it? Are you a fan of baseball?”
“Yes, I am. I’m also the manager of the baseball club.”
“Wow, you must really love it. It makes me happy to be approached by someone who loves baseball.”
“Hehe, oh, by the way, could I have your autograph?”
“Of course. If it’s okay coming from someone like me.”
Saying that, Shirakawa-san rummaged through her maid uniform’s pocket. However, it seemed like she couldn’t find something that looked like a pen, and she showed a slightly desperate expression.
“Huh? Isn’t this seat yours?”
Saying that, Shogo pointed at the seat he was sitting in, and then she exclaimed, “You’re right!” with a hopeful expression. From there, she took out a pen and a math notebook and handed them to Yoshiki.
“Please.”
“Sure.”
Yoshiki, with a practiced manner, drew a smooth signature and handed it back to Shirakawa-san.
“Wow, I’ll treasure it.”
Even though she wasn’t good at studying, Shirakawa-san held the math notebook preciously and was about to leave while she was looking quite happy when I suddenly halted her in her tracks.
“Hey, wait! Take our order first!”
In response to my voice, Shirakawa-san snapped back to reality and took our orders. Well, it wasn’t much of an order since we only wanted omelet rice and coffee. After taking the order for the three of us, she happily retreated to the kitchen.
“Hmm… she’s quite skilled at this.”
“Hahaha. Even someone like me can attract fans, you know.”
“High school baseball is popular, especially guys like Yoshiki with their refreshing image.”
“If it’s coming from Shogo-kun, it sounds like sarcasm.”
“Heh. I won’t lose in terms of looks.”
“Yeah, that’s true.”
“Hahaha…”
They continued their usual banter and conversation.
It was a fun moment for us as we reunited after quite a long time. But… there was something bothering them or, how should I put it…
