- Chapter 20 - The maid in full recovery
The day after Yuki Ohira collapsed, I went to school as usual and entered the classroom. Ohira was sitting in the seat behind me, while looking at her planner. The only difference from yesterday was that she was repeatedly writing and erasing something with her pen.
I was a little worried that she had forced herself to come to school today.
“As always, you barely made it to school. You’re lucky master,” the moment I sat down, I was greeted with such thorny words, but she didn’t seem to be in bad health.
“You seem to be in excellent condition,” I said after sitting down and hanging my school bag on the hook next to the desk.
“Thanks to you,” she replied.
From this conversation, it can be inferred that her condition has improved significantly. However, I turned around to confirm her condition because I had not seen her face.
“Thank you for yesterday,” she said, bowing her head before our eyes met. I couldn’t hide my surprise at her unexpected action.
“Stop it. You’re attracting attention,” I said.
If the beautiful student council president, Ohira Yuki, who is a prominent figure even at school, bows her head to a male student in the front row of the classroom since the morning, it’s bound to attract attention. Not everyone saw it, but a few classmates showed reactions with just their gaze.
“You have to thank those who help you properly,” she said while raising her head.
“Didn’t I tell you not to talk to me so familiarly at school?” I asked her.
“That’s a separate issue. Besides, I didn’t like your smug face when you said that,” she replied.
Did I grin that much? Well, maybe I did when a cute girl in class sat on my chair and her bu*t touched it indirectly.
“Anyway, thank you so much for yesterday,” she thanked me again, making me feel embarrassed.
“You’re so serious,” I said, looking around as I admired her.
All of our classmates’ attention had returned to their own conversations, and no one was paying attention to us except for one person.
“Hey, Akira. What’s up? Did you do something yesterday?” a good-looking guy with a muscular build came over to us like a dog, laughing cheerfully. It seemed that he had overheard our conversation.
I made eye contact with Yuki Ohira, wondering what to do, and spoke first.
“Yesterday, she thanked me for helping with the student council work. Right, Ohira?”
Upon hearing the instantaneous lie, Yuki Ohira’s eyes widened, but she quickly returned to her usual expression.
“Yes. Thank you for all your help.”
“Oh, really? That’s nice.”
Shogo leaned in close to me and whispered.
“Does that mean you were forced to help because you got stuck sitting in front of the fairy queen?”
“Yeah, that’s right. So you should be grateful for your seat and pay attention in class.”
“Y-yeah, that’s right. I guess my own seat is better after all.”
“Um, I can hear you.”
Yuki gave Shogo a sharp look and he said, “Oops.”
“I have to go review for the next class.”
As Shogo hurried back to his own seat, Yuki said,
“So you tell lies to your best friend as easily as you breathe. Do you have a human heart?”
“Would it have been better if I told the truth? ‘I was taking care of Ohira yesterday’.”
Upon hearing this, she thought for a few seconds.
“Just this once, I’m glad you don’t have a human heart.”
“See? I have a human heart.”
“If you say so yourself, it lacks credibility.”
“Well… that’s how it is.”
With a sigh, she looked at me as if to change the topic of the conversation.
“Hm?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.”
I thought she might have been angry because the conversation was not interesting, but it didn’t seem like it.
“I have something to talk to you about, could you come to the student council room during lunch break?”
“The classic confession spot is behind the gym, right?”
“You know the classic confession spot even though you’re not popular? You’re a scary person.”
“Hey, wait a minute. Who said I’m not popular?”
“Are you popular?”
“Damn it… I can’t say anything in response.”
Unable to refute, Yuki Ohira smiled faintly.
“So, if it’s not a confession, what do you want to talk about?”
“I want to talk to you about the matter we discussed before.”
The expression “the matter we discussed before” made me realize that she was talking about the matter of her acting as my exclusive maid.
“It would be too conspicuous to talk in the classroom. It would be good to talk in our apartment, but unfortunately, I have work today. I’m sorry, but would it be okay to talk during lunch break? Of course, it doesn’t have to be today.”
The last sentence indicated that it wasn’t urgent, but since she brought up the topic today, she probably wanted me to hear it today.
“Okay, I understand.”
I don’t belong to any clubs or committees, so I nodded my head since I usually have free time during lunch break.
“Thank you very much. I’ll be waiting for you during lunch break.”
