Episode 51: Pillow Talk with a Yandere Girlfriend
“Hm… Ah… Yeah. A ceiling I don’t recognize.”
The ceiling was pure white, with a circular light fixture.
The room’s interior was calming, and the bed was soft and inviting—nothing like the ones in love hotels. This one was so much fluffier and more comfortable.
My back ached. I couldn’t feel my right arm or left hand.
I didn’t need to think hard to figure out why. There was only one explanation.
“Good morning… Oh, you’re not awake yet.”The clock on the wall showed 5:30 AM.
Day two—or maybe three—of our trip to Hokkaido, depending on whether you count the time spent on the ferry.
With nothing to do, I stared at the ceiling.
“Rei-kun, you’re awake?” “Ah, good morning, Shion-senpai.”
I turned to see Senpai lying beside me, using my right arm as her pillow.
Yep, Senpai was as breathtakingly beautiful as ever.
“Mariri seems to still be asleep.” “Yeah, it seems so.”
I glanced at my left arm.
The club president was sleeping soundly, her face peaceful and content. There was no way I’d disturb her.
“You’re an early riser, Senpai.” “Hehe, well, I always wake up by six. I need to make your lunch, after all.”
“I’m really sorry for always making you go through that trouble.” I felt like punching my lazy self, always sleeping in until the last minute before class.
“Don’t worry about it. I do it because I want to. By the way, Rei-kun, have you heard of the Ship of Theseus?”
“Uh… Yeah. “Wasn’t it the story about a ship that gets its worn-out parts replaced one by one over many years until none of the original parts are left? The question is whether it’s still the same ship at that point, right?”
I vaguely remember watching a video about it on YouTube. I couldn’t recall why, but the gist of it stuck with me.
“Exactly. So, as I see it, the cells in Rei-kun’s body will eventually all be replaced by ones fueled by my cooking. In the end, you’ll be entirely made up of something I created. That’s how I think about it.”
“Oh… uh, okay.” This was probably a topic I shouldn’t delve too deeply into.
“A-anyway, waking up this early… Won’t you get sleepy during the day?””Normally, I don’t wake up this early. But today’s special. I wanted to watch you sleep.”
“Oh, I see. I guess that makes sense.”
Watching someone sleep is a moment of complete vulnerability, without any guards up or tension. It was refreshing to see the club president like that as well.
“Well, Mariri seems tired. How about going for a walk?” “Sure, we’re in Hokkaido, after all.”
“When she wakes up, make sure to apologize to her, okay? Rei-kun, you were quite… intense yesterday.”
“Uh… Yeah. I understand.” Yesterday was… well, I lost control of myself. It was like I wasn’t even me anymore.
“Are you okay, Senpai? I mean, physically? I was clumsy and inexperienced, so…”
I felt embarrassed. If only I had practiced somehow… though I had no idea how that would even work.
“My lower abdomen does feel a bit odd. It’s like you’re still inside me. I’ll need someone to support me if I’m going to walk or stand.”
“I-I see.” So going for a walk would mean we’d be sticking pretty close together. Well… that’s not so different from usual, is it?
“All right, I’ll take a quick shower.” “Got it.” “Care to join me?” “Uh, um, well…”
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted. “Just kidding. Honestly, if you were as insistent as last night, I might not be able to handle it.”
“H-handle it?” I wasn’t sure what she meant, but if that’s how Senpai saw it, there was probably some underlying principle of hers at play.
With that, Senpai headed to the bathroom.
Carefully, I slid my arm out from under the club president and replaced it with a pillow, making sure not to wake her. She didn’t seem like she’d wake up anytime soon.
Senpai returned after about 15 minutes, and I took my turn in the shower.
“Shall we go for a walk?” “Yes, let’s.”
We left the hotel and wandered, ending up at Hachiman-zaka.
From the top of the slope, you could see the ocean, flanked by rows of street trees—a picturesque and unique place.
“The salty smell is quite strong here.” “Yes… But it still feels unfamiliar.” “It’s true. Our town’s pretty far from the sea.” “Hehe, not that kind of unfamiliar.”
Senpai’s mischievous smile was almost childlike, a rare expression for her.
“I mean, the unfamiliarity of being in love, holding hands like this, going on a trip together, sleeping in the same bed, sharing meals…”
Her profile was filled with deep emotion.
Senpai had always been afraid of love, scarred by how her parents’ relationship fell apart.
She’d closed herself off, carrying that burden alone. Just like me. We were both haunted by things from our past.
“I wish this could go on forever.” As she gazed at the ocean, she murmured.
And I understood that feeling completely.
When the present is so blissful, you fear waking up from the dream.
“It’s okay. It will. And if anything happens, I’ll take care of it. I may be stupid, but when it comes to grit, I won’t lose to anyone in this world.”
I squeezed her hand tightly. No matter what happens. I vowed from the bottom of my heart to protect this.
Both Senpai and the club president. As long as they were by my side, I’d safeguard it all.
“Oh, my phone’s buzzing.” I pulled my phone out of my pocket.
“Hello?” “Where are you!?” “Uh, good morning, Mariri -senpai.”
“Oh, good morning—wait, not that! Where are you two!? When I woke up, you were both gone, and I thought yesterday was a dream!!”
“Ah… Haha…” It seemed the club president had similar thoughts.
“We’re just out for a walk. We’ll head back soon.” At that moment, I had no idea about the upcoming battle. The battlefield was none other than the morning buffet.
