The Reincarnated Minister's Second Daughter Wants To Live A Happy Life - Chapter 27
Chapter 27
“I like you! Caspian Nixon!”
“…”
Caspian stared at Daisy’s half-drunken figure. She was standing before him, head bowed, and handing him an envelope. He was guessing it was a letter.
It happened so quickly that Caspian had no time to react and was speechless. He didn’t know what to say in such a situation where the woman he liked confessed first.
‘What should I do?’
His palms started sweating, and his heart rammed against his chest. He was overwhelmed by the sudden confession. It was as if he was about to explode at any moment.
When Daisy felt that Caspian remained motionless, she carefully and slowly raised her head to look at him. As soon as she raised her eyelids, she saw Caspian staring at her with complicated emotions inside his eyes.
Daisy suddenly felt embarrassed and immediately bowed her head. She had drunk a little, so her face was naturally flushed red. The hand holding the letter never wavered and was still stretched.
After a few minutes of silence, Caspian finally reacted and accepted the letter with trembling hands. He doesn’t know what to feel in this situation.
“I….”
Daisy’s quivering, embarrassed voice echoed in front of him, but he was too shy to look at her. It was correct to say that they both felt shy at that moment.
However, there was no turning back. A few days ago, Daisy had made up her mind to confess. When she finally gave him the letter she carefully wrote with all her heart and soul, it was as if a burden was lifted from her. Even though she borrowed her courage from the alcohol in her system.
As she bowed her head, she couldn’t see Caspian’s expression. Nevertheless, she was hoping for a positive answer from him. Or even an ‘I will think about it’ would be alright for her. It was enough for her little heart to handle.
But it was Caspian who was thrown into confusion. He kept asking himself what he should tell her. But before he could open his mouth, Daisy spoke first.
“I saw you for the first time on our graduation day…. I thought you were really good-looking at that time. In the summer after that, I… kept thinking of you. And so, feelings were cultivated….”
Daisy was more courageous now because of alcohol. Caspian remained speechless.
‘What should I say? Tell her I kept thinking of you for the past thousand years?’
Daisy fiddled with her hands.
“I never showed it, but… I like being in your company. I enjoy our time together… even though it was short.”
Caspian’s hold on the letter tightened.
‘Our time was indeed short, but I want you to know I am also thinking of you.’
Daisy bit her lips and continued speaking.
“I would like… to continue being your friend.”
“No!”
“Huh…?”
“Don’t be my friend!”
Caspian desperately grabbed both of her hands and exclaimed. His eyes looked straight at her, frowning in uncontrollable emotions.
Daisy was surprised at the sudden skin contact and looked at him wide-eyed.
Caspian realized what he had done, so he looked down at his hands, tightly clasping Daisy’s smaller hands. Instead of letting go, he just loosened his hold without any intentions of letting her hand go.
Caspian was surprised himself.
‘Was this because I have waited a millennium to meet her?’
He was afraid of letting go of her hands. He was scared that the person would also go away once he let go. The image of her dying in his arms lingered in his eyes.
“Let… let me go first.”
“I won’t! Don’t be friends with me!”
Daisy frowned her eyebrows.
“That’s why… let go of me first. Then we’ll talk… if you want to be friends or not.”
Daisy’s voice was small and barely audible. She avoided her eyes and tried to wriggle her hand from his grasp.
Caspian realized he was saying the same thing but wasn’t saying anything. He cleared his throat and fixed his expression.
He forced himself to calm down and looked at her with gentleness.
“Does it hurt…?”
“A little….”
“I’m sorry…. I didn’t mean to hold you tight.”
Caspian was embarrassed and was about to blow Daisy’s hands to somehow alleviate the pain. Daisy flushed when she realized what he was about to do and quickly pulled her hands back.
Caspian didn’t expect her to pull her hands, so he stared at his empty hand.
“So… what do you mean when you said you don’t want… me to be your friend?”
“I didn’t mean it that way….”
Caspian had a hard time expressing himself.
“I…I don’t want to be your friend. I want us to be… more than friends.”
“…!”
“That means that I also –”
“You also?”
Because of the alcohol, Daisy was a little more enthusiastic. Her flushed face was very enticing. Her plump and pink lips were like red cherries – inviting people to take a bite.
Caspian stopped talking and stared at her.
‘What to do? I am about to go crazy.’
Caspian clenched his fist, suppressing the uncontrollable desire that was starting to burn his heart.
“I…”
Once again, Daisy’s clear brown eyes stared at him. He was nearly losing his sanity at this point.
“I also like you….”
“What?”
Caspian’s voice was barely audible because he was gritting his teeth.
“I said, I also like you!”
Caspian felt like a little girl who was lost in her own dreams and feelings. It was a heavenly feeling, especially when the person he likes shares the same feelings as him.
“!!!”
Daisy’s eyes widened even more. She tugged her ear, wondering if she had heard it right, but Caspian was still looking at her, embarrassed and helpless.
They stared at each other for a while before Daisy looked away, her face flushed red even more.
‘He likes me too? When? How?’
The realization hit her late. She looked at the hand Caspian was holding earlier. The warmth from his big hands was lingering on her palm. It felt as if he was still holding her.
“That’s why… we don’t need to stay friends…. I’ve thought about it for a long time, but I have the same feelings as you. I think… I can’t live without you if I let you go now.”
“But… I won’t go anywhere.”
“I know… I know you won’t go anywhere, but I was always afraid you would go away once I let you go.”
“So what are we now?”
Daisy was more impatient to know their status.
Since Caspian started talking about not letting go, she wanted an assurance that everything she heard was genuine and not a mere joke. Even if she confessed to him with a bit of alcohol in her system.
Caspian slowly grabbed her hand and softly caressed it. His actions tickled the corners of Daisy’s heart.
“Today is… our day one.”
“Day one?”
“Mm.”
Caspian slowly nodded his head with a faint smile on his face.
Daisy giggled and then burst into laughter afterward. She was on cloud nine – a very fluffy cloud nine taking her to the peak of happiness.
The joy overwhelmed her entire senses. She tiptoed on her feet and placed a dragonfly kiss on Caspian’s cheek. It was very light, like a feather touching his cheek. After that, she quickly ran away while skipping. She was in euphoria.
Caspian was once again surprised by Daisy’s actions for the second time. When he returned to his senses, Daisy was already nowhere to be found.
“Haa… Zhou MeiHua, you’re driving me crazy.”
Caspian ruffled his hair, but he wasn’t annoyed. A charming smile decorated his handsome face. He laughed to himself.
He decided to return to their dormitory. As he took a step, he saw Daisy’s letter. When he grabbed her earlier, it fell from his hand without him knowing.
“Am I that desperate not to let her go?”
Caspian laughed at how he must have looked ridiculous earlier. He opened the letter carefully and read its content. There was light behind him from the lamppost, so he could see it without difficulty.
The letter says:
[To Caspian Nixon
I don’t know how to write letters, so I will just say what is in my mind.
When I first saw you, it was on our graduation day. Why did I not know that you are studying in the same school as me? My heart skipped a beat right then, and I didn’t know what this feeling was called. Later on, Camille told me it was the feeling of liking someone. This is my first time genuinely liking someone to this extent.
I know many girls must have confessed to you before me. You may not accept my feelings, but please take me as your friend.
Caspian Nixon, I really, really like you.
From: Daisy Annesley
PS. Why is a love letter more complicated to write than a history thesis?]
Caspian laughed as he finished reading the letter.
“I’m glad I didn’t read the letter earlier, lest I must have regretted it.”
He folded the letter into its original state and put it back on the envelope.
When he took another step to return to their dormitory, a voice suddenly echoed from behind him. He turned his head, but it was too dark to see who it was.
“You eventually found each other.”
