Vol 1 Chapter 25 – Large-Scale Magic
“Hmm. Amazing. I can feel this insane pressure radiating from it.”
The northern wastes.
Hordes of monsters swarmed the area.
The nobles and knights stationed here were wielding their power, cutting down monster after monster, but even so, there was no sign they could finish them off anytime soon.
“Really… Damn it. Why does Noah have to fight on the battlefield?”
Tail, standing beside me as I leisurely observed the battlefield after traveling to the northern lands, voiced her frustration with a tinge of regret.
“There’s nothing we can do about it now. Come on, let’s just do the job we were asked to do.”
Floating in the air alongside Tail using magic, I pressed my palms together.
“Okay, here I go…”
The magic cannon was my maximum firepower.
I personally considered it my masterpiece, but it truly shined only in one-on-one combat. It wasn’t the kind of spell that excelled at blowing away massive numbers of enemies like this.
For large-scale destruction, something else would be better.
“Better to target the ground than the air.”
I poured in my magical power, quietly chanted the incantation, and drew out a magic circle in the sky, expanding it.
“…Wh-what is this?”
“Heaven and Earth Hell Quake.“
Borrowing the power of earth spirits, I churned up the ground.
I twisted the earth itself, engulfing the monsters and crushing their bodies.
“…Th-this is the magic of a single person?”
The earth spun around like a washing machine, and the monsters were crushed between layers of ground, reduced to mere mincemeat. No one could resist the violence of the earth.
Even those floating in the air were caught by countless hands extending from the ground, dragged down, and turned into mincemeat.
“Phew.”
This wiped out all the monsters that had been positioned slightly behind the front lines.
“Ah, this is seriously insane.”
Still, if I looked even farther beyond this point, there were masses of monsters. A huge swarm of monsters that hadn’t yet formed into a distinct group was heading straight this way.
In just one more day, we’d probably be back to the same scene.
“Hmm. I can’t use this many times.”
No matter what, a spell of this scale wasn’t something I could fire off repeatedly.
My magical power from when I fought the dragon hadn’t fully recovered yet either. Right now, my magical reserves had dropped to about one-fifth of what they were at full recovery.
I’d have to hold off on large-scale magic for a while.
“Well, I still showed overwhelming power, didn’t I?”
The people fighting on the front lines already looked exhausted, approaching their limits.
The time we’d bought here would pay off later.
Vol 1 Chapter 26 – Healing Magic
“…It’s almost too overwhelming. To think you could use magic of this level.”
“Hehe, I did kill a dragon, after all. I don’t think I could beat you, Tail, but on the flip side, I don’t really feel like I’d lose to anyone else in this country besides you.”
“What confidence… Hmm. It would certainly be a waste to let this level of ability rot away forever… No! What am I thinking? Counting a man as part of our combat strength!”
She could count me as part of the combat strength if she wanted, though.
With my values from my previous life, I still genuinely thought that fighting was a man’s role. I felt genuine resistance to the idea of making women fight while I just stood by and watched.
Well, but if I were truly relied upon as a combat asset and my freedom got restricted because of it, that would be a problem, so I’d keep my mouth shut about this.
“Hm…? Ah, there’s an injured person. I’ll heal her real quick.”
“What!?”
As I gazed down at the battlefield from the air, I noticed a warrior who looked like she was about to die, and immediately dove down toward her.
“Hah… hah… hah…”
“Hey! Don’t die here, you idiot! Thanks to Tail-sama’s support, the battle finally looks like it’s about to end! Just a little more… just a little more. You can’t die here—weren’t we supposed to go to that brothel everyone’s talking about in the capital!”
That one strike—was it being treated as something Tail did?
Thinking about it normally, that made sense, but… it felt a little sad, like my efforts were being dismissed.
“Pardon me for a moment.”
While thinking about that, I entered the group of people with a tragic atmosphere hanging over them and knelt in front of a woman who looked like she was about to die.
“Wh-whaaaaat!? A m-man!?”
“Ah, this is bad.”
The woman had taken a hit from a monster, leaving a huge wound in her abdomen, and on top of that, a large number of eggs had been implanted in her. The wound was already a mess—destroyed pieces of her armor mixed with monster eggs.
“For now, I’ll eliminate the pain and forcibly restore your body.”
If I didn’t remove the eggs and everything else first, healing her body would lead to something terrible.
I placed the woman’s head on my lap, and as the first step, I erased her sense of pain while pouring life force into her so she could stay alive despite her severe injuries.
“…Ah, ahhh? I was… I think I was… blegh!? A m-man! A man’s face is right in front of me!?”
“Don’t thrash around too much, okay? You’re not quite that energized yet… there we go, there we go.”
While restraining the woman who started thrashing after seeing my face, I reached my hand into her body to remove the foreign objects inside.
“W-wait a minute! A man’s face in front of me… a-ahhhhh!? Get away from me! I must reek of sweat right now! I’ve been fighting for days without bathing! I must smell terrible!”
“It’s fine. You don’t smell bad at all. What I sense from you is the noble spirit of someone who fought desperately for her country and her tireless dedication.”
Sniff, sniff. I brought my face close to the woman’s body, making a gesture of smelling her, then told her she didn’t smell bad so she shouldn’t worry.
“…Oof.”
“I’ll definitely save you, so stay still.”
“Y-yesh.”
“Alright! Done! Perfect!”
After a short while, it was complete.
I finished casting the healing magic and helped her stand.
“Oh, wow… even with such a severe injury.”
“I’m a highly skilled mage, after all. And you two.”
“”…!?””
The injured person and the one clinging to her—I took both their hands and spoke with a smile.
“After this battle is over, you wanted to come to my shop, right? I’ll be waiting at my shop in the capital, so you absolutely have to survive.”
I pressed invitation cards to my shop into their hands, then left them and charged toward the monsters.
“Magic Cannon.”
As I blasted away monsters and advanced, I reached a point where I was out of sight of the other women. I transformed my appearance into that of a woman and used transfer magic to return to where I’d been before.
“Guess I’ll take a light walk around.”
Watching the two of them look at their hands and fall into a mild state of panic, I wandered leisurely through the battlefield.
