- Chap 17 - Overcoming Fear: Mars' Desperate Battle Against Amaterasu's Ice Magic - Heroes
Mars had been waiting at the designated point for what felt like an eternity, his heart pounding in his chest with each passing second. Memories of the attack flooded his mind, and he couldn’t shake the image of his beloved daughter frozen in place, trapped alongside their entire kingdom.
As the minutes ticked by, Mars grew increasingly anxious, replaying his daughter’s desperate pleas for mercy in his head. Her voice, filled with fear and desperation, echoed through his mind, haunting him like a ghost.
The small corridor where Mars waited for Amaterasu gradually grew tighter, the sound of his own heartbeat pounding in his ears. He couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that settled deep in his gut, growing stronger with each passing second.
When the door to the corridor creaked open, Mars felt his knees go weak. There stood Amaterasu, with her blazing sword in hand and a look of icy determination in her eyes. Mars couldn’t help but flinch at the sight of her, his body trembling with fear.
“Where is Adam?” Amaterasu asked, her voice sending chills down Mars’ spine.
Ignoring the question, Mars stepped in front of Amaterasu.
Mars stood before Amaterasu, his heart racing with adrenaline as he watched her attempt to summon her ice shield once more. He knew he couldn’t let her get in his way, not after everything she had done to him and his family.
As he lunged towards her, Amaterasu’s eyes widened with shock. She tried to defend herself with her magic, but Mars was too quick. He broke through her shield with a swift strike of his sword, sending shards of ice flying in all directions.
For a moment, Amaterasu seemed to falter, her power waning as she struggled to keep up with Mars’ relentless assault. He had planned this for months, knowing he needed to catch her off guard if he had any chance of defeating her.
But even as he pressed his attack, Mars couldn’t shake the feeling of fear gnawing at his insides. Amaterasu was still a formidable opponent, a goddess whose power was unmatched by any mortal. And he knew that if he didn’t finish her off quickly, she would find a way to turn the tables on him.
Dodging her next spell, Mars gritted his teeth and plunged his sword towards her heart. It was a risky move, but he knew it was his only chance. The blade pierced through Amaterasu’s chest with a sickening thud, and for a moment, Mars felt a sense of triumph.
He thought he had finally defeated her, but as he landed the final blow, he heard the sound of ice cracking beneath him. He looked up to see Amaterasu standing before him, her eyes ablaze with fury.
Mars tried to steady himself, but the sound of her voice made his heart race with fear. “Listen here,” Amaterasu said, her voice cold as ice. “I’m going to ask you again, where is my dear Adam?”
Mars tightened his grip on his sword, his heart pounding in his chest. He thought he had the upper hand in his battle against Amaterasu, but now he wasn’t so sure. Her mana was destabilizing, but he knew it wouldn’t be enough to defeat her completely.
He had to do something, and fast, before Amaterasu broke free from his spell. But even as he tried to think of a plan, he couldn’t shake the feeling of fear gnawing at him.
He had always known Amaterasu was a powerful foe, but now he realized just how much he feared her. Her ice magic was enough to send chills down his spine, and he knew he was no match for her
in a head-to-head battle.
But he couldn’t let his fear overcome him. He took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. He had to focus on the task at hand and not let his fear control him.
With renewed determination, Mars swung his sword at Amaterasu, hoping to catch her off guard. But she was too quick for him, effortlessly dodging his attack.
As she avoided his strike, Mars watched in horror as Amaterasu began to regain control over her magic. He could see the ice forming around her, growing stronger with each passing moment.
Mars knew he had to act fast. He couldn’t let Amaterasu recover her full power, or else he would be doomed. But as he charged towards her, his sword raised high, he could feel his hands shaking with fear.
Amaterasu noticed his hesitation and smiled coldly. “You’re afraid of me, aren’t you?” she taunted.
Mars gritted his teeth and lunged at her, determined to prove her wrong. But even as he attacked, he could feel his fear growing stronger.
He knew he had to overcome it if he had any chance of defeating Amaterasu. He closed his eyes and focused on his breathing, trying to push the fear to the back of his mind.
Slowly but surely, he felt his fear begin to recede. He opened his eyes, feeling a new sense of determination. He charged towards Amaterasu once more, his sword glowing with a fierce red light.
Mars could feel the cold creeping into his bones as Amaterasu’s magic overwhelmed him. He tried to stand, but his legs gave out, and he collapsed to the ground. Panic gripped him as he realized he was completely powerless against her.
“Father, help me,” the memory of his daughter’s voice echoed in his mind. He gritted his teeth and gathered what little strength he had left, lunging at Amaterasu with his broken sword. But it was no use – the sword was frozen and shattered to pieces on impact.
Struggling to breathe, Mars felt himself slowly freezing from the inside out. Amaterasu had regained control of her magic, and she wasn’t holding back. He could feel himself losing consciousness, but he refused to go down without a fight.
“If you had told me what I wanted, I wouldn’t have had to kill you,” Amaterasu taunted, her voice ringing in his ears. Mars could barely muster a response, but he managed to shout out a final warning.
“One day you will pay for what you did to my kingdom!”
With those words, Mars froze completely. His body became nothing more than a lifeless statue, a reminder of the power Amaterasu held over her enemies. But she paid him no mind, focused solely on finding her beloved Adam.
