Chapter 9 – A Date With Kotobuki Yuzuki
A few days had passed since my talk with the Kotobuki sisters, and before I knew it, it was almost the weekend.
“Here, this. Wear this tomorrow, okay?”
Friday evening.
My little sister came into my room and said that, placing a paper bag on my bed.
According to Shuka, my casual clothes are lame. I still wear the clothes I bought in middle school, so it’s no surprise.
But even now, I don’t think my clothes’ designs are unfashionable, so I’m sure I’ll end up buying similar clothes if I go shopping alone.
It’s fine if I’m the only one thought to be dressing poorly, but if someone is walking next to me, I have to be more mindful of it.
That’s why I consulted with Shuka.
The result was this paper bag.
“Thanks.”
I honestly expressed my gratitude.
Shuka smiled with satisfaction and held out her hand.
Wondering what was wrong, I put my hand up to her, and she responded with a sharp retort, “Not that! Money!”
“Oh right, money.”
I took some cash out of my wallet and handed it to Shuka. I added a little extra on top of the clothing cost as a sort of tip.
“Still, I never thought Onii-chan would go on a date. And it’s with that beautiful woman!”
Shuka muttered thoughtfully.
That’s right, I have a date tomorrow.
At first, I was asked to meet each of them separately, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday, but that seemed too exhausting, so I declined.
As a result, it became a two-part date instead.
I didn’t tell Shuka that I was meeting up with the two of them.
I only told her that I was going on a date with Kotobuki-san. Technically, I’m not lying. They’re both Kotobuki, and we’re going on a date, after all.
“Are you two dating yet?”
“Not yet. In fact, I’m not sure if we’ll even start dating.”
“But she was so, so pretty! If you miss this chance, someone like her won’t accept you again, no matter how much you wish for it.”
“You’re being too harsh towards your own brother.”
I want to say that’s not true, but I don’t think Shuka is wrong.
If it’s just an average girl, there would be some room to deny it, but when it’s the Kotobuki sisters’ level, it might be true.
It’s really a golden situation, huh… Having both of these incredibly beautiful twin sisters make advances on me.
“…Eh?”
Thinking about it carefully, if I were to express my desire to go out with one of them…
Does that mean I would have to choose one of those two? (T/N: Muehehe…)

Minakura City is the most bustling area around here.
There are many restaurants, amusement facilities, apparel shops, and all kinds of entertainment options, so after school and on holidays, not only students but even adults have the vibe of “Let’s go to Minakura now.”
So, here I am, at 10:25 AM, swaying with the rattling of the train on my way to Minakura City. I made sure to arrive five minutes before the meeting time, but she was already waiting when I got there.
Leaning her back against a pillar just outside the station gate, she was glancing around.
My partner for the first part of today’s date is Kotobuki Yuzuki.
“Sorry, did you wait long?”
I ran up to her and called out to her.
Yuzuki then slowly moved her back away from the pillar, turned towards me, and smiled softly.
“No. I just got here too.”
“…Really?”
“Actually, I’ve been waiting for 30 minutes.”
“Why bother pretending? And no matter how you look at it, 30 minutes is way too early.”
“I was so excited I couldn’t stay at home. You know how they say hunger is the best seasoning? Well, I think this waiting time is like the best seasoning for making today’s date perfect.”
That just means it was hard for you.
Yeah, unless you’re into waiting, I doubt anyone actually enjoys it.
If we carry on like this, we’ll get nowhere, so let’s just change the subject quickly.
“So, what are we doing today?”
It was up to her to decide. They were being considerate, knowing it would be tough for me to plan two different dates in such a short time.
“We’re going to watch a movie.”
“Is there anything you want to see?”
I don’t particularly dislike movies.
I think I rather like the atmosphere of the theater and the big screen.
“No.”
Yuzuki shook her head at my question. So there isn’t anything specific she wants to watch?
“Then why a movie?”
“I did some research and it seems that the standard first date is a movie.”
Well, that’s something I’ve heard before.
As I was thinking this, Yuzuki, who had been watching me, spoke up,
“By the way, it says that a good man always compliments the girl’s outfit on a date.”
As she spoke, her eyes looked somewhat uneasy. I cast my gaze downwards.
Her long hair, which she usually wore down, is now braided.
She’s wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and a light blue long skirt. It suits Yuzuki, who has a pure and innocent image.
“I don’t know much about fashion, but I think you’re really cute.”
When I said that honestly, Yuzuki blushed and said shyly, “R-really? T-thanks.”
It was strange that she could make such bold statements, yet suddenly become so ladylike. Still, I find that contrast cute.
By the way, I’m wearing a white shirt, a black jacket, and black skinny pants.
I thought it was a bit too safe, or maybe too ordinary, but Shuka said, “As long as you have a white shirt and black pants, you’ll look normal.”
Sure enough, when I started paying attention, I realized there weren’t that many people wearing patterned or brightly colored clothes. Some were, of course, but most people wore plain outfits in neutral colors like white or black.
“Well, let’s go then. If you want to go to the movies, this is the way.”
“Yeah.”
The two of us started walking side by side.
It would take about ten minutes to get to the cinema. It was a familiar cityscape so it didn’t feel new at this point, but when I realized that it was Yuzuki walking next to me, I felt a little nervous.
It must be hard to have a beautiful girl walking next to you. I can feel more gazes from the people around me than usual.
I’d like to think that I’m being overly self-conscious, but it’s probably not just my imagination.
“Hey, look, that girl is really cute.”
“She’s so high-class.”
“Who’s that guy next to her?”
“Is he her boyfriend?”
“Nah, there’s no way.”
“She’s got a great figure, I’m so jealous.”
“She’s too beautiful. I can’t even bring myself to hate her.”
This seems to be what it means to walk next to Kotobuki Yuzuki.
As someone who doesn’t like to stand out, I do feel like I’m attracting a little too much attention.
But rejecting or avoiding her because of that would be rude, so I decided not to do that. At this point, I figured I might as well embrace the situation.
Once I accepted it, well… It wasn’t so bad after all.
