Chapter 13 – A Secret Rendezvous
“Wow, that’s nice. A date, huh? I’m so jealous. But if word of this gets out, Kirishima is definitely going to be half-dead.”
“I’m only telling you, so if it does get out, I’ll know who did it.”
“You think I’m going to spread it?”
“You would. Just for fun.”
“No, no, it wouldn’t be just for fun. It would be all for fun.”
“You’re terrible.”
During lunch break, I was sitting across from Hibino, poking at my lunch.
Neither Hibino nor I are the type to have many friends, so we usually eat lunch together like this during lunch break.
We don’t stay together after eating, though. We each do what we like.
The week after my date with the Kotobuki sisters. The classroom on Monday was as peaceful as usual.
“But you did go on a date with them. That’s surprising in itself.”
Hibino said, eating cherry tomatoes. Hibino’s lunch was something like a salad pasta, with no white rice or side dishes. I haven’t heard it directly from her, but I think she’s a vegetarian.
“Really?”
“Yeah. If it were some other ordinary girl, that wouldn’t be such a big deal, but you went on a date with those two. It won’t just be our classmates, but boys in the entire school will be in an uproar. It’s a bold move for someone like Kirishima who doesn’t like to stand out.”
“That’s why I told you not to tell anyone. If you don’t tell anyone, no one will find out.”
“I won’t. If Kirishima is gone, who will I eat lunch with?”
“If everyone finds out, does that mean I automatically die?”
“Maybe dying is an exaggeration. At best, you’ll be sent to the hospital.”
“Enough…”
I would have finished the salad pasta in less than five minutes, but Hibino ate hers slowly.
I had finished half my lunch, but she still had more left.
“So, are you going out with them?”
“Who knows? If I were to date one of them, I’d have to choose between the two.”
“Well, that’s how it is. What a luxurious problem to have.”
As she said this, Hibino glanced at the Kotobuki sisters in the classroom.
The two of them were in different groups, and they chatted happily with their friends during lunch. Their group was all girls, but the boys seemed to be always waiting for the right timing. They were like hyenas waiting for their prey.
“Being approached by those two at the same time, why don’t you just go out with them both?”
“That’s called two-timing.”
When I retorted, Hibino laughed playfully as she gobbled down a broccoli.
“We live in an age of diversity. Surely there should be freedom in how people fall in love?”
“Don’t think that just using the word ‘diversity’ means that anything is allowed.”
It’s convenient, though.
That said, compared to the past, the world has indeed started to accept a variety of things. Or rather, there’s a trend where we’re expected to be accepting. (T/N: Dem…)
“If the people involved think it’s the best for them, I don’t think it matters what other people say.”
“But, you can’t get married that way, right?”
“Kirishima, you’re so serious. You’re already thinking about marriage when you’re in high school.”
Why does she seem a bit put off?
As I was taken aback by her reaction, Hibino chuckled again.
“Polygamy isn’t legally recognized, so marriage would be difficult. But, you’re still in high school, right? Why not just date without worrying about that for now?”
“Isn’t that a bit insincere? Dating both just because I can’t choose one?”
“That’s up to how you handle it, Kirishima. Besides, I already said it before, if the people involved think it’s the best for them, it doesn’t matter what other people think.”
What Hibino is saying is idealistic. If it were possible, it might indeed be the most ideal solution.
I went on a date with the Kotobuki sisters the other day and I could tell that they were really nice girls. Although their methods were different, they both thought about me and did various things for me.
They are twin sisters, and if I chose one of them, some kind of wall might be created between them.
As a way to solve everything, dating them both is certainly the simplest answer.
“It’s up to Kirishima to choose. What I want to say, in the end, is just don’t stop being my friend even if you get a girlfriend.”
“That won’t happen, no matter what.”
When I think about it, we’ve only been together for a little over a year. But being next to Hibino is a place where I can relax and unwind.
Maybe, ideally, that spot should be occupied by a guy friend, but there’s no point in saying that now.
No matter what happens in the future, she will remain a resting place for my heart.

When asked what my hobbies are, I can confidently say reading. I believe I genuinely enjoy reading, and I do spend a fair amount of time doing it.
I often read literary novels like mystery and horror, but I’ll also pick up a light novel if the plot catches my eye.
That’s why a library is a very useful facility.
As a student, the number of books I can buy is limited with my pocket money, so a library with a wide variety of books feels like a paradise for me.
I can’t go to the library every day after school, but I do go there quite often.
If I can’t go after-school, I come during my lunch break and borrow a book.
Also, maybe because there aren’t many bookworms in the school, there are very few people that come to the library.
It’s different when it’s near exam period, but on an ordinary day, it’s normal for there to be only one or two people. Five people in the library can be considered a lot already.
“Now, I wonder how it is today.”
I muttered as I opened the door to the library.
There’s a reception counter just inside beside the entrance. There’s usually a librarian in charge of the day there, fiddling with her smartphone, looking bored, and apparently, today is no different.
She has a gal-like vibe and looks that clearly give the impression that she has no interest in books. She was idly scrolling through her phone with a bored expression.
She glanced at me, made an annoyed look, then quickly returned her gaze to her smartphone.
Proceeding through the reception desk, there is a space with tables. There are six long desks with six chairs each. And a sofa.
Beyond that, there’s space lined with bookshelves on both sides.
As I passed through the table area, I checked how many people were around. Not that it really mattered whether there were many or few.
The students who come to the library are usually quiet. To begin with, the rule is that if you are noisy, you will be kicked out, so whether there are people or not, the library remains silent.
And it seemed there was no one here today.
Zero.
It was just me.
No wonder the gal didn’t like it. Someone has come into the space where she had been alone just a moment ago.
“Sorry,” I thought to myself as I headed towards the bookshelf.
At that moment, I heard the door to the library rattle open, but I ignored it and started looking through the books.
“Hmm, what book should I get?”
I actually quite enjoy this kind of moment. I haven’t finished reading any of the books in the library yet. I want to finish them all in three years, but I wonder if it’s really possible.
Like a girl with sparkling eyes at a cake buffet, I was looking through the books with excitement when suddenly, my vision went dark.
Eh, huh?
Startled, I tried to say something, but before I could, a seductive voice whispered in my ear, “Guess who?”
“Huh, w-whaa?”
A voice leaked out without me realizing.
It was just a sound that couldn’t be put into words.
“Here’s a hint.”
Something soft was pressed against my back.
In that moment, all my senses were focused there. It seems I can’t resist a man’s desire no matter what. It’s frustrating.
I could tell from the voice even without a hint, and what’s more, there are only a limited number of female students who would do this to me.
“I thought I said not to mess with me at school, Kotobuki Yuzuki-san?”
“Technically, you said not in front of others. No one can see us here, right?”
As she said this, Yuzuki took her hands off my eyes and took a few steps back. Even though the light was dazzling, I looked back at her.
“A secret rendezvous in the library is exciting, don’t you think?”
“In a way, yes.”

T/N: Bro, I’m telling you, Yuzuki is the best girl!
