Chapter 29: Moving (※Together With a Beautiful Woman)
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“Haa… Anyway, Ryuuto. Sorry for the sudden notice, but due to certain circumstances, you’ll be relocating right now. Staying at the same hotel might be risky. We can’t let the public know about you yet and I’ve prepared a condo and a room for you. The security is top-notch so you’ll be fine. My husband and I have work to do, so we can’t accompany you there, but Yamanashi-san here will protect you. Yamanashi-san, I will leave the rest to you.”
With just that, Ryuuto and Sayaka were shoved into the black Benz arranged by the hotel and abruptly moved to their new place.
“O-Oh. So this is my castle from today onward…?”
Guided into a high-rise condo in a certain upscale district, Ryuuto gazed out at the dazzling night view of Tokyo from the room, lost in thought.
“Ryuuto-sama. This place already have everything you might need, but if there’s anything missing, please let me know. I’ll contact the service providers and have it arranged immediately.”
“O-Ooh?”
Sayaka, now changed out of her military uniform into a chic pantsuit, was bringing drinks over to the sofa.
“Oho!”
“Is something the matter?”
“N-No, nothing at all.”
What a feast for the eyes!
The single button of Sayaka’s suit jacket was undone, making her ample cleavage look as if it was about to spill out. Ryuuto couldn’t stop his face from relaxing. He was smiling dazedly. Then, spotting the black leather holster hanging from Sayaka’s waist, his excitement dampened slightly. During the car ride, Sayaka had thoroughly explained to Ryuuto the significance and importance of male protection officers. The reason why a man would need a specially trained, dedicated bodyguard for them in this world was simple. It was dangerous for them to move around alone.
Indeed, Ryuuto possessed the magic and skills powerful enough to single-handedly deal the finishing blow to the Demon Lord when he was in dungeons. However, his power was strictly limited to dungeons. He couldn’t use it in the surface world. The protective blessing bestowed upon explorers like Ryuuto by the Great Sage Sirius, meant to defend against monsters that suddenly appeared in the world, was only effective inside dungeons. In other words, while Ryuuto’s combat abilities on the surface were still superhuman by normal standards, but if the attacker had powerful firearms, he would be completely outpowered by them. Even without his magic, Ryuuto’s physical abilities were certainly exceptional, but Ryuuto’s exceptional physical abilities had its limit as a human. If someone pointed a gun at him, Ryuuto’s life would be gone easily. The only ones allowed by the state to carry firearms or equivalent bladed weapons to compensate for this were specially designated male protection officers.
Yeah, I get it. Even a hero is just an ordinary person once they step outside.
“Sorry for making you handle all these errands, Yamanashi-san.”
“Not at all, Ryuuto-sama. Please leave everything of this nature to me. Also…”
“What is it?”
“Umm… Please just call me Sayaka. Being addressed in a formal way like Yamanashi makes us feel a bit distant and… I find it a bit uncomfortable, so to speak…”
Sayaka, with her dignified features, cast a somewhat anxious gaze his way. Dumbfounded by the sight, Ryuuto set down the glass he had been toying with on the glass table. He then let out a light grunt and rubbed his temple with his fingers.
“Well, yeah. If you put it that way, I guess it does sound a bit too stiff, but the truth is… I still don’t know anything much about you, Yamanashi-san. Which is why… Still it’s still too early to sleep, why don’t we chat for a bit?”
“Huh…? Ye-Yes!”
Sayaka, holding an ice pail and tongs, stood in front of Ryuuto with a tense expression on her face. She looked a little lost. Whether she realized it or not, she was unconsciously clicking the tongs in her hand. The stiffness he had sensed when they first met was nowhere to be found.
This must be what her real personality is like…
Ryuuto thought to himself. Of course, as a virgin himself, Ryuuto wasn’t particularly skilled at dealing with women. But back in his student days, he had at least interacted with female classmates like normal classmates, so he figured he was probably better at it than Sayaka.
“Well… Let’s take a seat, shall we?”
“Yes.”
“Yamanashi-san.”
“…”
“You know, you’re actually the type who shows their emotions, huh? You’re more honest than I expected.”
“Is… That so?”
“Yeah. Like now, you look like a dog that just got a whiff of something nasty. Like this.”
At that, Ryuuto scrunched up his face like a kabuki actor striking a dramatic pose. He exaggerated his expression on purpose and Sayaka, seemingly finding it amusing, let out a small chuckle for the first time since they knew each other.
“That’s the one.”
“Huh?”
“You look better when you smile. A smile suits you way more.”
The moment he said that, Sayaka’s face turned bright red all the way to her earlobes, and she immediately cast her gaze downward. Seeing her reaction, Ryuuto was left dumbfounded. He had deliberately played up the sleazy, gigolo-like charm, fully prepared to be met with a disapproving look—but Sayaka’s response was beyond his expectations. Her reaction was way too innocent for her own good.
“…That… I actually don’t have a good relationship with my family. If possible, I’d prefer you to call me by my name instead of my family name.”
“Hm?”
“Because this name… Is the only memento I have from my late father. The only treasure he left for me…”
“I see. Then I won’t hesitate anymore. I will call you Sayaka.”
“Please address me however you wish.”
“Heh. You’re still so stiff.”
Ryuuto said with a relaxed smile on his face. Sayaka didn’t quite return the smile, but her expression seemed to soften just a little.
