The Villainous Noble Tried His Hardest to Break the Original Storyline, and Now the Heroines Are Acting Weird - 24
Chapter 24
ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
“I respect your resolve, but… you can’t kill the Demon Lords. Without the Hero’s power, it’s impossible to so much as scratch them.”
“That’s—”
That’s not quite true…
But of course, I couldn’t say that out loud. It would raise the question of how I knew that in the first place.
The common belief was that the Demon Lords couldn’t be defeated unless they were weakened by the Hero’s power. However, in reality, it wasn’t entirely impossible. I had seen a walkthrough video by someone who wanted to somehow clear the “scripted loss event” event.
The pre-weakened Demon Lords had high HP and were set to automatically recover a certain amount each turn. But there was no setting that nullified damage. In other words, even if you dealt 100 damage, it looked like they took no damage because they healed 1,000 every turn—but the damage itself still went through.
An awakened Hero could suppress that auto-regeneration and their max HP. But even aside from that, if you could keep dealing damage that surpassed their recovery rate, it wasn’t entirely impossible to defeat them—or so the video claimed.
It was nearly impossible through normal gameplay, but by modifying the game data and powering up the characters, they were able to inflict damage that exceeded the auto-regeneration rate and defeat the Demon Lords.
The post-battle events didn’t change much, but still, the fact remained—they could be defeated.
…A character whose data had been tampered with… That was me, right now.
“…You must feel strongly about this, too. But no matter how much you attack the Demon Lords, it’s meaningless. We have no choice but to wait for the Hero to appear. If they emerge in your generation, then lend them your strength. If not… Pass this down to your child.”
My father and Sasha must have seen the Demon Lords’ power firsthand. Their expressions were tense—almost frightened—as if they knew anger alone wouldn’t be enough to win. Well, yeah. The pre-weakened Demon Lords did launch attacks that far exceeded the character’s max HP.
They could dish out consecutive attacks that exceeded the 1,000 HP limit of the game, so of course they’d be terrifying to normal humans. It was because they were enemies beyond comprehension that people waited for a Hero—someone just as incomprehensible—to stand against them.
…Then what if I could prove that I was beyond their understanding too? I glanced over at Sasha.
“While we wait for the Hero, countless people will have to carry sorrow. I don’t want that to happen.”
The truth was, I just wanted to save my little sister, the Hero. But I figured it sounded better to say something noble. I might’ve gotten pretty good at acting ever since I came to this world.
I extended one hand toward Sasha and activated a healing spell. A healing spell from Final Quest. A power far beyond anything my father or Sasha could comprehend.
It could heal even the most severe wounds. Even if someone’s arm had been blown off, it had the strength to fully restore them. This was precisely the reason why I had wanted to be reborn in the world of Final Quest. The world was so conveniently designed.
…So now, using that power, I would show them that I existed outside the bounds of their understanding.
“…What are you doing?”
“I’m going to heal Sasha.”
“…What are you saying?”
Which world’s rules would take priority? Would my healing spell take effect? Or would Sasha, a being of this world, override it?
There was no way to know. But if Sasha’s current condition was what this world deemed correct—then I would simply twist that reality.
If I couldn’t even heal one of Sasha’s wounds, then I’d never be able to complete this story as the Hero’s substitute. I could feel her body beginning to recover, marked by the drain on my MP.
At the same time, an invisible force slammed into me, as if trying to stop the healing. It was a violent shock. A black mist-like presence rushed in, trying to blow my entire body away. What I was trying to do was considered as an impossible occurrence—something that shouldn’t exist in this world.
Maybe the world itself was trying to reject me for attempting such a thing. But I—
I forced it down. No matter how much it tried to interfere, I had something I had to do. I had to clear this game before my little sister reincarnated into this world.
This was the first step in pushing through that absurdity—and I took it.
“…This, is—”
Sasha let out a stunned whisper as I poured in more MP. A strong light burst into existence, scattering the ominous atmosphere around us. And then, it happened.
I could feel my level go up. I looked over and saw Sasha moving her right arm in astonishment.
“…No… Way…”
“…This can’t be…”
Seeing Sasha freely move her right arm, I let out a breath. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but it seemed I had won. I’d hoped for this result, but I hadn’t been certain I could pull it off.
Still, I had a strange sense of confidence. Because this world was managed by the Goddess, after all. I thought I heard a faint voice say,『Hey, excuse me?』, but it’s not like I was insulting her or anything. If anything, I was praising her, so I’d appreciate it if she didn’t get mad.
Thanks to the Goddess, this world wasn’t just filled with despair. It still had a chance for hope.
