The Summer Day When I Met You - Chapter 15 - The Summer Day When I Met You
Chapter 15 – The Summer Day When I Met You
The summer day when I met you…
Even if you forget, I will never forget.
You showed me a view I didn’t know existed.
So I say to you, thank you.

Five years after that summer, I still remember.
Those days I spent with Kokoa…
It was only a month, but for me, every day was unforgettable.

“Long time no see! Hinata!”
Rino spoke to me as cheerfully as she had five years ago.
“Long time no see Rino. Where’s Sayo, Karin, and Kensuke?”
“I haven’t seen them yet… Ah, there they are!”
Rino waved her hand and called the three scurrying people.
“Sorry to keep you two waiting,” Sayo said and smiled with her same-old smile.
“It’s been a long time, Sayo, you haven’t changed.”
When I said that, Sayo made a pouty face.
“I have some mixed feelings about this…”
“I-I don’t know why, but I’m sorry…”
“Come on, you two, let’s go~”
Rino approached me and Sayo.
“Yeah, okay. Sayo, let’s go.”
“Yeah, let’s go.”
There’s a reason we’re all here today.
It’s for the purpose of going to meet someone important to us.

“It’s been a while~, Kokoa-chan, it’s Rino. We’re all here today,” Rino crouched down in front of the grave and said.
“Does Hinata come every day?” Kensuke, who was next to me, asked me.
“No, about once a week. I come with Kokoa’s mother on the days when our schedules are aligned.”
“Is that so…?”
I told everyone about my last conversation with Kokoa five years ago.
It was all very realistically strange, but everyone believed me.
No, they had no choice but to believe.
Everyone had memories of being with Kokoa.
“Hinata… You still like Kokoa after all these years?” Karin asked in a hushed voice.
“Yeah, I still like her…”
“I probably like Kokoa as much as Hinata. I wish I could have done more things with her… I think there were a lot of things she didn’t get to do while she was at the hospital. It would have been fun to go to school with her…”
…Even if we talk about what-ifs now, Kokoa is still no longer with us.
I wonder if I did something for Kokoa.
Making memories together… Was that enough to fulfill what she wanted to do?

On this day, I had a dream.
Kokoa gently smiled at me.
“I had a lot of fun. Hinata, Rino, Karin, Sayo, Kensuke… That summer holiday with the 6 of us was the best memory for me. That’s why I don’t have any regrets. Thank you, Hinata… Thank you for meeting me that day.”

This novel is only 15 chapters long. I picked it up because I thought it would be nice to perhaps do a youth-romance drama. Perhaps because of the build-up, I felt kinda sad when translating the last chapter. If given more chapters, I think this could’ve hit harder.
Anyways, thank you for reading! If you’ve enjoyed this series, please consider supporting me by donating to my ko-fi!
