The Story Where I, the Strongest Mercenary, Was Reincarnated as a Bullied Introverted High School Student ~ When I Was Freely Enjoying My School Life, for Some Reason the Girls Around Me Started Glancing at Me~ - Chapter 20: Casually Taking Revenge
Chirp chirp. Morning sunlight streamed through the small bathroom window, and little birds chirped.
“Phew~”
I woke up at 6 AM for an early morning run. After finishing my workout routine and meditation, I was taking a shower. This would probably become my body-building routine for a while. Thanks to the balanced meals my mother, Fushimi Sakura, had been making for me, this body had a solid foundation. Since I was young, I recovered from fatigue quickly too, and aside from injuries, I was in perfect condition.
(My previous self was an orphan, so I couldn’t eat proper meals during my growth period. Fushimi Jinta was a lucky guy.)
When I lit the stove in the kitchen to make breakfast, Ami came over while rubbing her eyes.
“Oh, Jinta, you’re up early.”
“Good morning, Ami. I have work today.”
“Work again? You really work a lot~”
“…I made breakfast for you too, Ami.”
I placed egg toast, or rather toast topped with a fried egg, on the table. I had also cut sausages into octopus shapes as a side dish along with salad.
“Oh, how thoughtful!”
When Ami sat down in front of the plate, I picked it up. Ami looked up at me curiously.
“I can’t give this to someone who can’t return a proper greeting. Good morning, Ami.”
“Wh-what~ I just forgot for a moment.”
“This is a serious matter. Good morning, Ami.”
“Fine, fine. Good morning.”
Ami replied in an exasperated manner. Satisfied, I returned the plate to Ami. Since Ami never returned greetings to me, this was a forceful measure.
“Even though you’re a pathetic guy, you’re being so cheeky…”
“My being pathetic has nothing to do with not returning greetings. Is Char still sleeping?”
“She’s sleeping, like an angel.”
“You didn’t lay a hand on Char, did you?”
“I didn’t! I just smelled Char-chan’s floral scent a lot through her pajamas!”
Was that safe? Or out? It felt morally wrong, but because of my sister filter, I found myself forgiving it.
“Hah~ Maybe I should marry Char-chan.”
Ami muttered nonsense while munching on her toast.
Good grief, what was this girl saying? Ami and Char getting married… If that happened, Ami would never marry another man, and Char would become family… wouldn’t that be perfect? Wait here while I go change some laws.
“Oh~ you’re up early. Good morning, Jinta-kun and Ami-chan~”
Mom was the next to wake up. I cracked a fresh egg into the frying pan and put bread in the toaster.
“Good morning. I’ll toast bread for you too, Mom.”
“Good morning~ Jinta’s been working so hard since Char-chan came, like he’s become a different person.”
“Oh my! Love really does change people~”
“Sorry to disappoint, but Char and I won’t become that kind of relationship. We’re just friends.”
“Jinta-kun, you’re being shy~”
“It’s true that Jinta would have to work hard to match her~”
While we were having this conversation, Char also came to the room.
“G-good morning!”
“Good morning~”
When the three of us returned her greeting, I prepared breakfast for Char too. Meanwhile, Ami made coffee. We all sat at the table and began conversing while eating breakfast.
“Char-chan, do you have any plans today? If you’d like, I can show you around Japan!”
When Ami made that suggestion, Char looked troubled.
“Ah, um, actually I have some research to do…”
“Char needs to enroll at Shigemichi High School, so it’s for those procedures, right?”
“Oh? Char-chan came here to study abroad?”
“Char, I already looked into the enrollment procedures, so why don’t you keep Ami company today?”
When I said that, Char’s eyes widened in surprise.
“…Huh? W-wait, that’s—”
“I haven’t given you the enrollment paperwork yet. I’ll briefly explain how to fill it out, so come here for a moment.”
I led Char away from the living room. Once we were alone, as expected, Char looked at me with dissatisfaction.
“Hey, Ryuji. What’s this about? We’re going to get revenge, right? We can’t move forward if I don’t do research.”
“We will get revenge, but that doesn’t mean there’s any reason you can’t go out and have fun with Ami.”
“What do you mean?”
“…Practice acting like a high school girl with Ami. Since you’ve been a mercenary this whole time, it’ll be difficult to blend in as a Japanese high school girl, right?”
I had to say something like this or Char wouldn’t be convinced. The reason Char was forced to join SWORD was due to her crime of killing her own parents, but now she was free. She could casually carry out revenge for her comrades while enjoying a normal high school life. Char should find new companions, and in the meantime, I’d take care of everything.
“Th-that’s true too…”
“But Char, I’m giving you an important mission.”
Saying that, I placed my hand on Char’s shoulder. Char also looked at me with a tense expression.
“Take lots of pictures with Ami. Ones where you’re both in them. Send them to me later.”
“…Are you a siscon, Ryuji?”
“No, it’s because Fushimi Jinta’s personality remains… probably. I’m counting on you!”
Char was looking at me with an exasperated expression, but for me, this was a mission as important as guarding the president. I was really counting on her.

“Well, I’m going to work. Ami, take care of Char.”
“Okay~ have a good day~”
After finishing breakfast, I headed to my part-time job.
That store where everyone looked down on me.
