Chapter 9: I’ve Grown Up, You Know?

“Directly… what do you mean?”

I didn’t quite understand An’s words, so I asked, and she replied in a calm voice.

“I’m going to take off my clothes and be in my underwear, and I want you to check for yourself, with your own eyes, if I really haven’t changed, both now and then.”

“Y-You’re going to be in your underwear!?”

Though I was still groggy from sleep, hearing my sister say she was going to be in her underwear made it clear that I couldn’t stay in a dazed state anymore.

In my shock, I immediately sat up and continued.

“What are you saying, so early in the morning? Well, it did wake me up, but even if this is a joke—”

“It’s not a joke.”

She said, and then, blushing, she added.

“I could take off my clothes and show you my underwear right now if it’s for you, Big Brother. No, if you want, I could even go further.”

An murmured the last part in a small voice, but due to the strong impact of her words about showing me her underwear, I couldn’t make out what she said.

Why on earth would An suddenly say something like this?

As I was thinking about the cause in my head, An moved a little closer and said.

I affirmed An’s words as a fact while still thinking about what had happened earlier.

An then smiled slightly and said.

“That’s right! Big Brother, give me your hand!”

Saying that, An took my right hand, showing it to me and saying.

“Your hand has gotten bigger too, compared to before.”

Then, An stared at my right hand for a few seconds before bringing it closer to her chest.

Confused by her action, I asked, and An, her face now flushed, said shyly.

“Big Brother… why don’t you touch my chest, just once, over my clothes?”

I suddenly realized the answer to the question that had been on my mind—why An was acting this way—and I stood up from my bed in a rush.

“Ah! That’s it, Big Brother! From now on, I’ll—”

“An said all this because she’s worried about how tired I am!”

“…Huh?”

An’s hand, which had been gripping mine, loosened and I pulled my hand away from her shoulder, placing my hand there.

“An, it’s fine. I don’t need you to show me your underwear or anything. You should save that for the person who’s really meant to see it.”

“…! Wait, Big Brother, I…”

“By the way, I heard your cooking is already ready. Let’s go eat together before it gets cold.”

After that, we left the room and went downstairs, where I had breakfast with An, acting as usual.

Though I was really shocked by what had happened in the morning, it turned out to be An’s kindness and concern for me.

As usual, I was having lunch with Shirayuri-senpai, watching the view from the rooftop and getting some help with my studies.

Shirayuri-senpai’s tutoring was always limited to the lunch break, but she was very smart and always explained things so I could understand them in one go, which really helped me a lot.

Come to think of it, Hinase had once said she wanted to thank me for helping her study.

I’ve always been helped by Shirayuri-senpai, so I thought I should find some way to thank her too.

With that thought in mind, I stopped at a good point and said to Shirayuri-senpai.

“Shirayuri-senpai, I’d like to thank you for always helping me with my studies. Is there anything you’d like me to do for you?”

“I’m just doing this because I want to, so you don’t have to thank me… Well, I’d like to say that, but…”

She added that with a little smile and continued.

“If that’s the case… could I ask you for just one thing? Could you go out with me to the city after the midterm exams, just the two of us?”

Going out with Shirayuri-senpai, just the two of us…!?

Shirayuri-senpai is the only daughter of the Shirayuri Group, and she’s said that she’s rejected every confession she’s received until now.

“Until now, you and I have mostly spent time together on the rooftop during lunch breaks, but… I thought it would be nice to spend time with you outside of school as well.”

“Yes.”

Hearing my answer, Shirayuri-senpai seemed surprised, but after I nodded again, she smiled at me.

“Thank you, Ritsu-san. From now on, please tell me more about yourself. There are still many things I don’t know.”

“I-I understand.”

I wasn’t sure if there was much about me that she didn’t already know, but I decided it was best to just nod along, following the flow of things.

Then, since lunch break was about to end, I said goodbye to Shirayuri-senpai and returned to class. A few days later, the day before the three-day midterm exams started.

As usual, I was studying with Hinase during break time when…

She showed me her notebook with English sentences, looking proud.
