Chapter 106: Cleaning
“Do you want to study at home?”
“…Yeah. Today, Haruka asked me if I wanted to study with her. Since there’s no good place to study, I thought it would be fine to do it here.”
After returning home and finishing her singing practice, Rinmei said this to me.
I was editing a video while listening to her and thought about it.
(…I’m fine with it, but it’s up to Kanna-san and Sayaka how they’ll respond.)
Since I’m not the owner of the house, I couldn’t decide, so I explained the situation to Rinmei.
“I’m fine with it, but you’ll need Kanna-san and Sayaka’s permission first.”
“…Do I have to tell them?”
“No, you definitely have to.”
I couldn’t help but tease her when she looked so displeased. By the way, Sayaka had returned from the school trip.
Since it was the weekend due to the trip, she went back to school today.
“I can’t believe that school! And that soccer boy is so annoying! Ei-ji, you know?!” she complained, still upset from the trip.
“…It can’t be helped… I’ll tell them… but I don’t want to.”
“Which one is it? Anyway, you can’t do anything until they give permission.”
“Ugh… Ei-ji, you idiot.”
“It’s fine. Now go on and tell them.”
“Ugh… ugh!!!”
She started lightly slapping my back.
Is it that bad? Well, I guess it’s because they’ll tease her, but still…
“…Then, can you pat my head?”
“Huh? Why the head?”
I was surprised when she suddenly said that. Seeing her somewhat aloof behavior, I sighed, thinking it was fine, and gently patted her head.
“…Mmm, this feels good… do it more.”
“Yeah, yeah. As you wish.”
Did she change the purpose of this? She’s gotten more demanding, but I thought of her like a child as I continued to pat her head.
The next morning, it seems she got permission from both of them, and after school, she was supposed to come here.
But Rinmei didn’t look happy at all. In fact, she looked quite irritated.
She said, “…I told them. They gave permission… but then they teased me because of it…”
Apparently, they really gave her a hard time, and by the next day, Rinmei was still glaring at Kanna-san and Sayaka without any reason.
“Still, there’s no way I can let others see this,” I thought.
Although the living room had gotten a little cleaner, it was still slightly messy. If we’re going to study in Rinmei’s room, we have to clean up first…
“And I should probably make some snacks… Ugh, what should I do?”
As I was thinking about cleaning, I heard the door to the living room open.
“Ei-ji-san. You look troubled. This is my time to shine!”
“…Uh, Kanna-san? Why are you dressed like that?”
There stood Kanna-san, wearing a cute outfit with a headscarf tied around her head and an apron on.
“I can’t let Rinmei’s friend see a dirty room, so I thought I’d help clean.”
“I-I don’t think you need to do that…”
“Huh? Why not? It’ll be more efficient if we do it together, right?”
“Well, I guess that’s true…”
I remember it well. I’ll never forget what happens when Kanna-san gets involved in cleaning or any household chores.
“Alright, let’s start cleaning!”
“W-Wait.”
“First, let’s clean the floor. I’ve got the vacuum cleaner ready for moments like this… Oh? It’s not working?”
It was already too late. I saw the vacuum cleaner in Kanna-san’s hands, and I had a bad feeling.
“Uh, Kanna-san? Where did you get that from?”
“Huh? I found it in the storage room when I was cleaning it out. But that’s strange… it’s not reacting… wait, what’s happening?!”
I understood what was going on after hearing that.
The vacuum cleaner must’ve been broken, and they just left it there in the storage room.
Suddenly, the vacuum cleaner started emitting smoke, and Kanna-san went into full panic mode.
“W-What?! Ei-ji-san!! What do I do?! Ahh!! I’m so sorry!!! Did I break a plate?! Ahh, ahh, ahhh?!”
“…Kanna-san, please, just stop.”
She probably didn’t hear me.
The situation was getting even worse than if we were just cleaning. Sighing, I waited for her to calm down before doing anything.
And, of course, I worked like crazy to clean up the mess before Rinmei and her friends arrived.

Chapter 107: The Visit of the Streamer’s Friend
“…Are you sure this is okay? I know I said it, but is it really fine for us to go in?”
“…Yeah. It’s fine. I somehow got permission… It’s okay.”
“But your expression looks a bit harsh…”
“…I’m fine. I’m just remembering a bit of the past.”
“?”
It was after school, and the two of them were heading to Rinmei’s house to study for their exams. Rinmei, on the other hand, was thinking about Kanna and Sayaka, the friends she was about to meet, and had a slightly furrowed brow.
“…We’re here. This is my house.”
“I thought the same thing when I came to pick up Rinmei, but this is a big house.”
It seemed like they had arrived. In front of them stood a large house, in a somewhat quiet area, but still impressive. Seeing it made Haruka feel strangely nervous.
“…Haruka?”
Rinmei noticed her unease and, with a worried expression, asked, but Haruka smiled and assured her that she was fine.
Although Rinmei was puzzled, she decided to let it go for now and focused on getting inside. She rang the doorbell.
“…Ah, it’s Rinmei.”
“…Ei-ji? You sound like you’re dying… Are you okay?”
“I-I’m fine… You must have just arrived. Wait a moment.”
Rinmei was shocked by the weak voice of Yusuke on the other side, but she waited at the front door with Haruka.
A while later, the sound of a door unlocking echoed, and the door opened… and both of them widened their eyes at the sight of Yusuke.
“Sorry to keep you waiting…”
—For some reason, standing there was a dusty, shabby-looking man.
“Uh oh… I was cleaning and they’ve already arrived…”
In front of the door stood Rinmei and… the girl with glasses I had seen before. Both of them looked extremely pale, as if they were in shock.
“Ei-ji? Are you okay? Did something happen?”
Unlike her usual indifferent tone, she was genuinely concerned, rushing toward me.
“I’m fine… I just gave my all to clean up…”
“R-Really?”
“Yeah… Anyway, please come in. Oh, and Haruka, right? You should come in too.”
“Y-Yes…”
They still looked very worried, but… was I really that bad?
Well… considering I literally wore myself out cleaning the room to the point of exhaustion, maybe it made sense.
“…? Where’s Kanna?”
“Ah… Kanna-san is…”
…She’s writing a reflection essay in her room.
After I finished cleaning, Kanna-san immediately apologized to me in a big way.
Honestly, I understood her side of things, so I wasn’t too angry, but I knew she wouldn’t be satisfied without some kind of punishment. In the end, I made her write 50 reflection essays.
“Ei-ji-san?!” she said, looking shocked and pale, but I wasn’t angry with her at all.
“Rinmei, where are we going to study?”
When I asked, Rinmei paused for a moment, then looked at Haruka behind her. I saw them whispering to each other in soft voices, and after a short while, Rinmei answered.
“…We’ll study in the living room.”
“Got it. I’ve already set up some snacks on the table, so go ahead and study.”
“…What about you, Ei-ji?”
“I’ve got some things to do in my room. Plus, I don’t want to disturb you two.”
I said, and started to head upstairs, but Rinmei grabbed the hem of my shirt.
“Rinmei?”
“…Ei-ji, stay with us.”
“Huh? But…”
“Stay, please.”
“…”
There were few words, but something stronger than that was coming through. Is it really okay? Feeling a bit confused, Haruka, who was standing behind, spoke up.
“…Um… Could you stay with us?”
“Eh… Well, if you both insist…”
When I said that, Rinmei seemed satisfied and let go of my shirt.
“Then go ahead and sit down. I’ll go get my computer.”
“…Okay. I’ll eat the snacks while waiting… Let’s go, Haruka.”
“Y-Yeah.”
Saying this, Rinmei and Haruka went toward the living room. I, on the other hand, headed up to my room on the second floor.
(…I really need to make sure I don’t act out of line.)
I briefly wondered if the living room was clean enough…
