The S-Class Beautiful Sisters at My New School Somehow Got Super Attached to Me and Ended Up Becoming Yandere Without Me Even Realizing It - Chapter 40
Chapter 40
♡
“…Maybe I should just forget it.”
After school, I left by myself first and headed straight to Tendou-kun’s house.
His grandma was all smiles the whole time, but it kinda felt like she wasn’t really paying attention to me or anything.
Those last words she said, though.
That she used to be a twin too.
I think she could tell I was all mixed up inside and said it on purpose.
So I wanted to talk to her properly one more time.
But showing up at his house when Tendou-kun isn’t even home… that’s straight-up stalker vibes.
Yeah, maybe today’s not the day, I kept thinking.
I was hesitating right at the front door when it slid open with a clack.
“Oh, Asuka, you’re back… wait, who’re you?”
An old man with white hair and really tall stepped out.
“Uh, um, I’m—”
“Wait a sec… are you Asuka’s girlfriend?”
“…Huh?”
“Yeah, yeah, that’s gotta be it. Huh, he still ain’t home yet? Whatever, come on in.”
“W-wait, no, I’m Tendou-kun’s—”
“No need to be shy. C’mon, it’s hot out there. Hurry up.”
“W-wait a—”
Before I could finish, the old man grabbed my arm and pulled me inside.
His arm was skinny like a dried-up branch, but man, it was strong. I was so thrown off that I ended up inside the genkan before I knew it.
Then he led me to the same living room as last time, and the old man disappeared somewhere.
He came right back with tea for me and went, “Mmm, what a real beauty you are.”
He nodded all happy-like, and I felt kinda bad, so I finally just said it.
“Um, Grandpa, I’m not Tendou-kun’s girlfriend.”
His eyes went wide as he stared at me.
“Not his girlfriend, you say?”
“Y-yeah. So, um, sorry if I got your hopes up for nothing.”
“Huh, that’s weird. My eyes goin’ bad or somethin’?”
“Weird?”
“You like my grandson, don’t ya?”
He said it all curious-like, and for a second I just thought about it.
Then,
“Wh-what’re you even saying!? I-I don’t feel anything like that for Tendou-kun!”
“Huh, so you do like him after all.”
“N-no, that’s not—”
“Hmm. But here’s this pretty girl who likes him, and Asuka ain’t dating her? Don’t tell me that kid’s out playin’ around at his new school.”
His face suddenly got all serious, so I hurried to fix it.
“N-no, that’s not it! Tendou-kun’s super serious and a really good guy. My sister and I both get along great with him.”
His expression slowly softened.
“Ohhh, I see, I see. So you didn’t come to see Asuka today?”
“Uh, well… actually, I wanted to talk to Grandma a little.”
“Oh, you know the old lady? Too bad—she’s out havin’ tea with friends right now.”
“Oh… really. Sorry for just showing up like this. I’ll come back another time.”
It was getting super awkward, and this grandpa totally misunderstood me, so I figured I’d just leave quick.
“Hold on. If you’re okay with me, I’ll listen.”
The old man sat down properly across from me.
“Uh, but—”
“It’s about Asuka, right?”
“Huh?”
He looked at me with these clear eyes that saw right through everything.
“Bullseye, huh?”
“Y-yeah, I guess so.”
“So what’s up with Asuka? Don’t tell me he’s cheatin’—”
“No, no way! It’s just… I don’t really understand how I feel about him.”
I can’t say “I like him” all clear like Mizuki or Ayaha.
But I can’t stop thinking about him.
I wanna know more about him, and I want him to know more about me.
But is that liking someone? Or not?
“Hmm, you don’t get your own feelings, huh. But right now you’re thinkin’ about Asuka, aren’t ya?”
“Y-yeah, kinda.”
“Do you have fun when you’re with him? Wanna spend more time together, talk more?”
“Yeah… I do. He’s just different from any guy I’ve ever met.”
“Ohhh?”
The old man nodded, then stood up and walked over to the engawa.
He stared off into the distance a bit.
“Lemme tell ya an old story. You hear how me and the old lady got together?”
“Um, she said she used to be a twin…”
“Yeah. See, I knew her older sister first. The old lady went to a different school, so I didn’t know her at all.”
“Then how’d you end up with Grandma?”
“I just happened to run into ’em when they were together. They looked so alike, but for some reason I couldn’t stop thinkin’ about the old lady. I wanted to know more about her, talk more, see her more. I didn’t even think about what those feelings were—I just went with it and asked her out. After a few dates, I finally realized it was love.”
“That’s really sweet.”
“Heh, yeah, right? So you should do the same. Don’t overthink it—just go with how you feel. Wanna see him? Ask him out. Wanna talk? Call him. Do that, and your feelings’ll get clearer.”
He came back and sat across from me again.
“Here’s a question. How’d you feel if Asuka started dating some other girl?”
“…I don’t know, but just thinking about it makes my chest all tight and weird.”
“Hmm. Sounds like an answer to me. Kids these days sure make it complicated.”
He let out this kakaka laugh and stood up again.
“Anyway, just don’t do anything you’ll regret. Bein’ stubborn or tryin’ to look tough usually makes you lose way more than you gain. That’s advice from someone who’s lived longer.”
“…Got it.”
“Sorry for ramblin’ on. You gonna wait for Asuka?”
“Nah, I’ll head home today. Thanks so much for talking to me.”
I stood up too, thanked him again, and left the room.
The old man saw me off with this gentle smile, no more questions or anything.
On the way home under the evening sky, I kept replaying what he said in my head over and over.
If you wanna see someone, just ask.
If you wanna talk, just call.
It’s so simple, but I could never do it. Mizuki does it without even thinking.
Ayaha too.
Both of them just act honest with how they feel.
…Me too.
I don’t wanna regret anything.
Even right now, I can’t stop wondering what Mizuki and him are doing.
So.
“…No more pretending I don’t care.”
