Episode 40: A Gentle World

It was lunchtime.

Since lingering in conversation would leave no time for lunch, my talk with Sei-san ended quickly.

It seems convincing Sei-san in such a short time was impossible.

She seemed to trust Hime’s intuition more than my counterarguments. Well, considering Hime is her beloved little sister, it made sense not to doubt her.

(At least… they don’t seem to hate me, so I guess it’s fine.)

Neither of them showed any signs of changing their attitudes with me.

If anything, they were oddly supportive. Rather than turning away, they tried to accept me—even when they believed I am a lolicon. So I guess the relationship we share between us won’t be that affected. If that were to be the case, maybe there is no need for me to stress about it too much.

It can’t be helped, from now on, I’d just have to patiently explain things little by little until they eventually completely understand.

With that optimistic thought, I decided to stop worrying about it all in all.

Even if they thought I was a lolicon—as everyone in this world was just too kind, so I guess it’s okay.

As I opened the door, Hime’s face lit up, beaming with joy facing me.

With such an adorable display, how could I possibly leave her alone?

“Yes, of course! But since we are all here, I wanted to eat altogether!”

Sei-san smirked teasingly, all knowingly at Hime, as if she could read her little sister’s mind, no matter what’s going on in there.

“Although, when it was just the two of us, you never waited for me, though~.”

“…Wh–what are you talking about?”

“Ufufu♪ Hime-chan’s such a terrible liar~, which makes it all so obvious and cute instead…… Isn’t it obvious, you just wanted to eat together with Yohei.”

“T-That’s not true!”

She denied with all her might, although her flushed cheeks betrayed her denial as she buried her face against my arm.

How soo adorable…

“Alright, let’s start eating, shall we.”

And so, with all the whataboutery getting done with, finally, I could head for the intended lunchtime.

Hime and Sei-san’s meals were once again luxurious, neatly packed into tiered lacquered boxes. Meanwhile, I had a simple convenience store bento.

“Yohei-kun… we could’ve prepared a lunchbox for you today as well, you know? Were you trying to be considerate?”

“That’s right~. You looked so happy eating it yesterday… and it’s not like we’d be making it ourselves anyway. The servants handle everything you see?”

That was actually the truth, actually yesterday, I’d asked Hime not to prepare a bento for me today.

It seems that the Hoshimiya sisters must’ve taken that to heart a little.

“The food was delicious, but… as I was born and brought up as a normal ordinary human being, I’m just more comfortable eating what I’m used to.”

And honestly… I felt really bad about it!

To have them bring me meals which would generally cost several thousands of yen, as a normal thing, every single day—didn’t sit right with my commoner’s sense of values.

They have a mindset to get to the bottom of things, they love the thrill to discover in-built in them and a lot, (and it’s different from a man’s form of curiosity). So, you just give them that, (make her undergo bitter and sweet mind games,) which will make her mentally satisfied, even though the answer she comes at, is another lie.]

No matter how wealthy the Hoshimiya family was, I wanted to maintain a certain boundary as a must.

Being at the receiving end of such extravagant things daily wouldn’t feel like an equal relationship anymore. That is why I feel reluctant to accept things when it goes to an excessive amount.

“So that is what it is… Fumufumu, so Yohei-kun prefers familiar flavors huh.”

Both Hime and Sei-san seemed to understand me it seems.
