Episode 31: Embarrassingly So
From Home to School, it takes me around 20 minutes on foot to commute.
That was one of the reasons I chose this school—as it’s relatively close.
For me, even though this school is a bit academically challenging, but I wanted to reduce my commuting time as much as possible, so I worked hard to pass the entrance exam. Thanks to that, I can take my time easy in the mornings.
*(Hmmmmm… maybe this much would be good?)*
On my way, I stop by a convenience store to buy something for Hime and Sei-san to eat.
As I continue walking toward school, thinking about giving it to them during lunch…
that’s when it happens.
“Nn?”
As I thought a luxurious-looking car passes by—then stops a few meters ahead.
Curious, when I looked over, the door slowly opens… and a child wearing a randoseru jumps out.
“—It’s Yohei-kun!”
Running over towards me, with long, beautiful white hair bouncing, was none other than Hime.
“Good morning♪”
“Eh? Ah, un. Good morning.”
To be honest, I was startled by her sudden appearance.
Perhaps my reaction amused her, Hime looked rather pleased.
“Ehehe~! I’m so lucky to see Yohei-kun in the morning. Today is going to be a great day♪”
…Nope, maybe that’s not it.
She’s not amused by my reaction— instead, she’s just simply happy about this encounter.
Really, Hime is such a good kid. I feel embarrassed misinterpreting her feelings for something scheming.
“Uwaaah~… Hime-chan, why did you suddenly jump out?”
A bit later, Hime’s elder sister, Sei-san, rolls down the car window and peeks out.
Is she sleepy? Or was she still sleeping? Her voice felt soft and sluggish than usual.
“Onee-chan, it’s Yohei-kun! I found Yohei-kun!”
“…Ah, you’re right. That’s a proper mature Yohei.”
She says it like she just found a rare beetle.
While Hime tugs on my sleeve, I give Sei-san a polite nod.
“G-Good morning.”
“Unn, good morning~”
After what happened yesterday, I felt a little awkward, but Sei-san doesn’t seem to mind at all.
That’s good. For now, I should set yesterday’s events aside and act as natural as possible.
“Yohei, I leave Hime-chan to your care~”
“…Sei-san, are you not getting out?”
“Sei-san doesn’t want to walk~”
“Onee-chan… You should walk a little. It’s good for your diet, you know?”
“Onee-chan will start working hard from tomorrow~. Driver-san, I’m counting on you~”
With that, Sei-san stays in the car as it heads toward school.
“Sorry about that. My sister is a bit of a homebody.”
“Huh? That image I had already figured out, so I don’t mind… Or rather, that’s not really something you need to apologize for.”
“Nope… My sister is pretty troublesome after all, so I thought I should apologize for her in advance.”
“No, no, Hime, you’re really overthinking.”
When I shrug with a wry smile, but then Hime suddenly grips my hand tightly.
“Well, never mind that. Leaving Onee-chan to Driver-san, let’s head to school together as well.”
“Hime… Um, this is kind of embarrassing, I think.”
Since it’s morning, and as a matter of fact that there are plenty of students from our school around.
Given Hime already attracts a lot of attention as it is. The closer we get to school, the more people there will be, and if we’re holding hands, we’ll become the center of attention without doubt.
“…Do you dislike it? Are you embarrassed to hold hands with me?”
But when Hime looks at me with a sad expression, my embarrassment vanishes instantly.
“No, that’s not it! I love (daisuki) Hime, but—”
I shake my head frantically to deny it.
That was a poor choice of words.
Of course, it’s not that I dislike Hime—I just wanted to make sure she understands my feelings. And as I was about to explain …
“—Eh? L-love me…? Tha–that’s so embarrassing♪”
S-she really is a good kid.
She understood my feelings with just that one sentence. Her face had turned red, and she kept fidgeting her teeth with her lips, but she looks really happy.
For now, I’m relieved there was no misunderstanding.
“Ehehe~. I too love you more than anything too, Yohei-kun!”
And when she says that with such an adorable expression, any embarrassment I had disappears.
Who cares about the stares say?
As long as Hime is happy, a few extra glances don’t matter at all—–.
