Rikka got introduced to the two adventurers, and so her journey as a hero officially began.

There was only one goal—to get stronger and rack up achievements that would make her a symbol for the country.

But the moment war broke out, she’d get summoned back and forced to stand on the front lines. That was the fate she carried.

“I’m Rikka’s brother, Barbecue Sedona. Nice to meet you both.”

“I’m Rikka… please take it easy on me. Oh, and Alma… aren’t your ears a little long?”

“Yeah, I’m an elf. Is this maybe your first time seeing one?”

Their greetings barely got started before Rikka’s eyes locked onto Alma’s ears.

Pointed tips longer than a human’s. A refined face. A mysterious kind of beauty that seemed almost otherworldly.

Ever since people started calling her the hero, Rikka basically hadn’t had any female friends.

Sword training, magic practice, studying the teachings of the Worus Church.

She went to school starting at thirteen, but with her abnormal power as the hero, in this merit-based country she was someone people feared.

She couldn’t really connect with kids her age, so loneliness just kept piling up.

The normal version of her would’ve made friends with classmates no problem—but.

She usually acted like she had zero motivation because she didn’t actually enjoy fighting, but the second she grabbed her sword, she cut monsters down so fast you could barely follow.

After watching that graceful swordplay, the two stopped doubting her completely.

“…That guy’s so unfair, I hate him. If he’d fight fair and square, I could win.”

Alma asked carefully, picking her words.

But Rikka just shook her head quietly.

“Nah. If anything, I’m the one who died, I guess.”

“I don’t really get what you’re saying, Rikka.”

“Hehe, yeah. —But even after all this time, I still can’t forget him. I wonder why…”

“Well obviously—because you still like him just as much, right?”

Rikka’s eyes went wide at Alma’s gentle smile.

“But like… he’s probably some old guy by now, you know? To him I’d just look like a kid.”

“N-no! We were the same age! He had a foul mouth and kinda scary eyes, but he was really kind…!”

At Alma’s words, Rikka’s heart thumped hard.

Memories that had faded with time slowly started coming back into focus.

“Yeah… childhood friend. I was always looking after him like a big sister… he kept saying I was annoying, but those reactions were cute too…”

The more she talked, the warmer her chest felt—and the more it hurt.

She held back the tears stinging her eyes and murmured softly.

“Ah… so I really still like Shuji, huh…”

“Shuji… hope you can see him again someday.”

A wish that could never come true. But one she couldn’t give up on, one that made her want to reach out anyway.

Alma only half-understood what Rikka was talking about.

That’s why she figured the guy was just separated from her, still alive somewhere, and said it out loud like that.

So Rikka quietly let slip an impossible fantasy.

After that, the hero party spent two whole years traveling around the Zarakia Federation.

They saved villages attacked by monsters, cleaned up defiled statues of Worus, and sometimes even helped out as extra staff at busy restaurants.

Because of how she acted, Rikka naturally earned trust and respect from people all over the country.

And just like the king ordered—to travel the world—the hero party left the Zarakia Federation behind and headed north.

A big festival held twice a year in the adventure city Hares, which prospered thanks to its dungeon, to give thanks to the sword as the symbol of weapons. Lots of street stalls and games like you’d see at a Japanese summer festival. Pretty much every shop runs sales.

– Dungeon
The kingdom’s largest cave-type dungeon, located west of Hares.
Has dozens of floors. C-rank adventurers can usually reach around floor 25.
There are several other dungeons too.

– Dungeon Break
A phenomenon where monsters that normally stay on their floors spill out of the dungeon.
During a dungeon break decades ago, half of Hares got destroyed.
This time, Bulldog had set something up, which triggered the break.

– Treatment Clinic
When a town gets big enough, a medical facility attached next to the church.
Monks and sisters use recovery magic, prescribe medicine, and so on.

– Grand Cathedral
A church much bigger than the one in the north district. Besides prayer, it has lots of meeting rooms, work rooms, and even restaurants for tourists.
Features several large stained-glass windows, a goddess statue, and a painting of Keryneia.
About the same size as the city hall.

– City Hall
The government office in the central district of Hares. Basically like a city hall.

– Naddem Forge
Blacksmith shop in the west district.

– Calm Mist Inn
A high-ranking inn in Hares, the one Glen recommended, in the north district.
Has a dining hall and showers.

– Platinum Memories
The fancy love hotel where Shu and Erina stayed.
Alcohol service available too.

– Fire Poison Knife
A sinister purple-bladed knife made from Fenrir claws and magic stone fragments. Carries such strong [Deadly Poison] that it poisoned Keryneia. Comes with a custom handle.
Just a light touch makes things foam and melt away. Even an A-rank monster has a high chance of dying from one hit. Super dangerous item. Medina has it now.

The trading company Mogmo runs in the south district.

Clothing-focused trading company in the south district. Main store is in the capital.
