—You were staring at a PC screen.
—You were staring intently at that video with Celtic music playing.
—You slowly operated the mouse and pressed the play button.
◇◇◇◇
‘Hello everyone. In this PV, we will introduce the world of the new game “Life Field,” scheduled for release in August 2028 from Home Away Soft. Please enjoy for 10 minutes the charm of this world overflowing with mystery, enigmas, and numerous exciting events and encounters.’
‘Prologue: What is “Life Field”?’
‘Life Field is a third-person action RPG life・romance・management simulation dark fantasy open world game scheduled for release in summer 2028 from Home Software Corporation.’
—You were watching footage of a vast green plain.
Every time the wind swayed, grass and flowers moved, clouds broke and flowed. It looked just like the real world.
‘In this highly designed world, you can freely enjoy adventure and life. You can enjoy to the fullest everything in this mysterious different world unlike reality. In this world, time flows the same as the real world, seasons cycle, and the people living in that world live based on their respective creeds, beliefs, and desires.’
—You were watching the game’s scenery changing one after another.
A brick-built town, people doing business in that town, children running around playing.
People with swords, shields, and staffs tearing paper from a bulletin board in a tavern, discussing something.
Misty mountain ridges.
A wyvern flying leisurely while looking down.
Skeletons wandering dark catacombs, fairies dancing and playing in springs.
Traveling merchants crossing deserts, loading cargo on rhinoceros-like creatures.
—You were captivated by footage of different worlds for a while.
‘You can live freely in this world. You can become an adventurer savoring this world full of unknowns and dangers, become a mage unraveling this world’s truths at magic school, live as an assassin killing people in the world’s darkness, earn money, hire people, expand your business and become a merchant, or of course become a citizen simply spending each day leisurely—’
‘Everything is free. This world will become a place for your life alone.’
‘And simultaneously, you are completely free to face or not face your own fate. We at Home Away Soft have only one wish. We simply want you to thoroughly enjoy this Life Field world.’
—You were watching characters becoming various forms one after another, running around the world.
A scene fighting a monster with a lion’s head, bat wings, and snake tail while clad in armor, equipped with sword and shield.
A scene wearing black robes and a large pointed hat, brewing strange liquids and plants in a dim magic school laboratory.
A scene wearing a hooded cloak, slitting a man’s throat with a dagger in a back alley, throwing him in a garbage bin.
A scene wearing clothes with expensive-looking decorations, gazing enraptured at gold coins. And finally, a scene wearing ordinary clothes, chopping firewood in a house garden, putting it in the fireplace together with children.
All beautiful footage, you continued staring intently at that video.
‘1. About the Protagonist’
‘We will introduce Life Field’s protagonist “Ritu Il Solitos.” In Life Field, you will live in this world through her or him, or you can create your own original character.’
‘The Life Field system differs slightly from systems in conventional open world games with character creation systems. At game start, the protagonist’s name, gender, talent, appearance and such can be set, but these settings gradually change based on your actions during the game. For example, if you do good deeds, the protagonist’s face will also become gentle accordingly; conversely, if you continue bad things, mainly criminal acts, it will become harsh and dark. Also, if you suffer wounds in combat during the game, those scars may remain. If you want to heal these wounds, it might be good to search for healers of “Sanatio, god of healing and peace,” or search for healing medicine at magic school. Ah, of course depending on growth skills, you can also make medicine yourself or obtain healing power. Of course, leaving scars intentionally isn’t bad either.’
—You witnessed the protagonist’s face changing more and more.
From a cherry-colored long-haired beauty to a blonde short-haired slanted-eyes beauty.
Becoming droopy-eyed, hairstyle changing again, becoming male, getting vertical scar across an eye, changing to odd eyes—
‘Oops, seems we showed too much. In the Life Field world, encounters with beings who have the power to greatly change your appearance await. Meetings with gods and demons may change your appearance to something mystical.’
‘Each character can set “Origin” and “Profession.” These two combinations become the character’s rough foundation. If you choose knight origin, you’ll encounter more people and events suitable for knight or noble society; conversely if you choose mage origin with scholar profession, you can walk a life concentrating on mystical pursuit. Of course, combinations with no correlation are also free—this is your life after all.’
Footage appeared of a character in knight equipment manipulating lightning and parting seas.
What profession was what briefly appeared wrapped in black flame-like light around the body?
‘The protagonist’s growth is in your hands, the player. By gaining experience, your possibilities will continuously increase. For example, using swords frequently raises your strength and sword-related skills. By raising skills, movements only achievable by some masters become possible. Skills deeply relate to the “Origin and Talent System” explained later. Also, experience isn’t limited to combat-related things. It’s various, from life-related things like cooking, cultivation, crafting, camping, to social things like rhetoric, negotiation, perception, bargaining, and even special skills like monster knowledge and magic knowledge. Make your preferred growth plan and aim for your ideal strength. Whatever form of strength, it will be great help to survive in this Life Field world “Aria Verse.”‘
—You were watching footage of characters swinging swords and waving staffs.
As skills rose, the character’s movements refined from initially being swung around by the sword.
Finally they were doing whatever they wanted, juggling multiple swords while kicking around monsters, or summoning giant meteors from the sky with a staff.
‘Now then, from here we will explain Life Field’s worldview and story. In the Life Field world, there are great gods—’
Click.
The footage cut off.
Oh no, it’s already this late.
