Chapter 9: The Gyaru Wants to Take a Photo With the Old Man

The day was getting hotter on Tuesday, July 16th. I was leaning against a wall in front of the station in the evening, staring at my smartphone strap that was “absolutely not removable.”

I was prepared to be teased a bit at work, but…

“Wait, Yuuki-kun?!What’s with that strap?!”

“Yuuki-senpai!! Who gave it to you?!”

I didn’t expect to be interrogated like this. I had to come up with all sorts of excuses to cover it up, because I absolutely couldn’t tell them the truth.

The gyaru casually told me a story that sounded like something out of a manga. She already received confessions after breaking up with her boyfriend last week… She was really popular indeed. Whoa… Even handsome guys from the sports club get turned down by Misaki-san… I feel kind of bad for the two guys who got rejected, but at the same time… Serves them right!

“Besides, I’d rather be with you than with some handsome guys! I had so much fun yesterday!”

Wait hold on. Does that mean I’m about to be compared against a bunch of ridiculously handsome guys from the soccer and basketball teams? And when I wasn’t prepared to get my pictures taken to the boot?? They’re going to laugh at me for sure!!

“Let’s retake the photo!!”

“Nah, it’s fine. This photo really captures the old man’s vibe perfectly.”

“No, no, that’s exactly the problem! The fact that it makes me look like an old man is bad!!”

“Alright, sent.”

I slumped in despair and Misaki-san leaned in close to me. 

“You don’t have to worry about it, old man. I mean, you don’t actually look that bad on the outside and you’re super handsome on the inside!”
