- Chapter 68: Kansai Guy, Going Bowling.
Kansai Guy, Going Bowling.
Next week is the exam period.
The Saturday before that, Shi-chan is coming to stay over at my place.
According to her, her mom has been poking around a little lately, checking on things. I guess she’s genuinely worried about her daughter, but I don’t think a few half-hearted questions are going to close the gap that’s built up between them.
The reason she’s staying isn’t because her parents are getting on her nerves or anything; she simply said she wants to be by my side. Being at home just stresses her out, so this is fine, right?
Sure, a high school girl casually sleeping over at a guy’s house might raise some eyebrows in the real world, but this is an eroge world. Nobody’s going to call us out on it, so whatever.
We decided to make it a full date while she’s here, so we agreed to meet at the station again.
She said we’re going bowling, so I came in easy-to-move-in clothes: a hoodie and jeans. It’s gotten chilly, and I didn’t want to keep Shi-chan waiting, so I showed up thirty minutes early…
…Yet somehow, she’s already here.
Why is it that in game worlds, the heroine is always, without fail, the first to arrive? Did she seriously get here two hours early?
“Dai-chaaaaan!!”
The moment she spots me, Shi-chan charges straight at me like she’s attempting a flying tackle.
Thanks to my core strength, I don’t even stagger.
“Morning, Shi-chan. Looking forward to today.”
“Yep! Morning! I’m super looking forward to it too~!”
“Alright, let’s grab some food at Mikudo first, then head to Final Round.”
“Roger that! I wanna eat Mikudo fries!”
“You really love Mikudo fries, huh?”
“Ehh? They’re delicious~”
“Well, you’re not wrong.”
First things first: food.
***
“Here, Dai-chan! Say ahh~”
“Ahh… Man, why are Mikudo fries this good…?”
“Right~? I could eat them every day… but it’d wreck my body…”
“Can’t do that. Here, Shi-chan—nugget ahh~”
“Ahh♪ Hehe, I love nuggets too♪ Hey Dai-chan, I wanna try that mustard you’re eating!”
“You can’t handle spicy stuff, remember?”
“Just one bite!”
“Fine, fine. Ahh~”
“Ah…… nnn!?”
“Whoa, nope. Orange juice, quick.”
glug glug “Pwaaah! No way…!”
“Hmm, maybe I should go with the mild curry tonight.”
“Dai-chan… You’re good with spicy, right? You don’t have to tone it down for me.”
“If I make it spicy, you won’t be able to eat dinner. That’s not happening.”
“Dai-chan…!”
“We’re eating the same thing. Here, barbecue sauce nugget—ahh~”
“Ahh… mmm, so good♪ Yep! I’m really looking forward to tonight’s curry now!”
Somehow we ended up feeding each other the whole time.
Halfway through, I started hearing “Explode already” and “His black coffee just turned into sugar water” from the tables around us. Maybe we should’ve held back a little.
But Shi-chan looked so happy… so whatever.
***
“Hey, Shi-chan. I’ve got a request.”
“What’s up?”
“This is my first time bowling… Could you teach me?”
“Eh!? For real!? Awesome! You’re letting me teach you!?”
“You’re the only one I can ask. Please!”
“Nihihi♪ Leave it to me!”
In my previous life, after I started working, I lived pretty far from anything resembling exercise… I always thought bowling was a jock sport and stayed away out of prejudice. So yeah—first time.
By the way, Shi-chan is wearing a hoodie on top and track pants on the bottom—full sporty mode. Oh, and she tied her hair into a ponytail. First time seeing that. Cute.
“Shi-chan, you look adorable with your hair up.”
“Eh? Yeah, I usually wear it down, don’t I. Nfu~ Being called cute by Dai-chan!”
“Next time, try twin tails with that outfit we bought the other day.”
“Got it! On our next date♪”
She just casually locked in the next date. Once winter break hits, another one, I guess.
Oh, I still need to take Mio-chan out too. Speaking of which—if I don’t become official with Kinuko-san by Christmas, the original game ends with the “nothing happens” ending.
There’s still about three weeks left… Think I can pull it off?
“Dai-chan, let’s pick your ball~”
“O-Oh, right. Hmm, from what I read online, it-around one-tenth of your body weight. So 15 or 16 pounds?”
“You’re going heavy, Dai-chan!”
“First time, so I’ll start with 15. Alright, this one.”
And so the bowling games began.
“Okay? Take a few steps… look carefully at that triangle mark… keep your body and arm straight!”
Shi-chan’s first throw glides perfectly down the center—
KA-CHANG! Beautiful sound. Strike.
“Yippee! Dai-chan, did you see that!?”
“Shi-chan, you’re insane.”
“Nihihi♪ I play a lot with my old gyaru friends!”
Apparently even among the gyaru crowd there are factions. The delinquent types and the (relatively?) pure ones. Shi-chan still hangs out with the latter group pretty often.MikudoTennouji
“Alright, my turn.”
“Dai-chan! Straight, okay!?”
“Roger that… here goes!!”
I released the ball.
It immediately veered hard into the gutter with terrifying momentum.
“…No way…”
“Dai-chan, it’s okay! Everyone’s bad at first!”
“N-Next one…!”
Shi-chan kept racking up strikes and spares like it was nothing.
Around my fourth throw, Tennouji family athletic genes finally kicked in, and I started getting the hang of it.
“Kyaa! Dai-chan, strike! Awesome!”
“Hell yeah!”
High-five with Shi-chan.
“Ah, crap…”
“Split…”
“Thirsty~! Hey, can I have some sports drink?”
“Here you go.”
“Pwaaah! So good! One more game?”
“No way I’m ending on this score… Let’s do it!”
We ended up playing three full games.
Shi-chan averaged around 150—seriously impressive. I barely scraped 130. She’s strong.
***
CLANG!
“Dai-chan! Home run!”
“Nice one!”
“Hn!! …Ugh, swing and a miss~”
“You need to put your hips into it a little more.”
We were getting stares and murmurs from all directions—“So jealous,” “Normies go explode,” the usual. Some guy even yelled “Die.”
“Big bro, we’re counting on you!”
“Leave it to me!!”
I ended up joining a 3-on-3 basketball pickup game. Shi-chan and a couple of older girlfriends watching went absolutely wild.
“You’re strong, big bro! Let’s play again sometime!”
“Yeah, I had a blast too.”
Somehow I even made new friends. Playing basketball every once in a while really is fun.
***
“Waa, that was so much fun! I worked up a good sweat~!”
“That was a blast. Let’s come again.”
“Yep!!”
“Alright, let’s buy ingredients for curry and head home. Chicken okay?”
“Yep! I love chicken♪”
Chicken curry it is. We picked up everything at the nearby supermarket and decided to mix mild and medium roux.
“Hmm? Dai-chan, two boxes of curry roux?”
“Mixing them makes it taste better. You’ll see.”
“Okay!”
We carried the bags together like always. I opened the front door, let Shi-chan in first because she asked, and the moment I stepped inside—
“Dai-chan, welcome home!”
…Ah. So that’s what this was about.
It’s been so long since anyone said “welcome home” to me. Maybe the last time was when I was in high school in my previous life and my mom said it…
It just… makes me really happy.
“I’m home, Shi-chan.”
“Ehehe. This feels nice! Let’s do it again!”
“Yeah… I’m really glad too.”
“Dai-chan, we sweated a lot—let’s take a bath!”
Ah, right. When Mio-chan mentioned wanting to bathe together, Shi-chan said she wanted to as well.
“I’ll get the water running. You can prep the curry stuff in the meantime.”
“Then I’ll set up the bath!”
“Towels are over there. I bought a new body towel, so use that.”
“Roger that!”
Shi-chan was practically bouncing with excitement.
After that, I prepped the curry ingredients, then we took a bath together—wait, is it really okay for high schoolers to just casually bathe together like this? …Eh, whatever.
We warmed up together, I made the curry, and she absolutely loved it. Found another thing Shi-chan likes.
That night we cuddled and kissed, but didn’t go any further. Feeling the warmth of her body against mine, I drifted off to sleep.
