- Chapter 35: A Kansai Man, Picking a Fight.
A Kansai Man, Picking a Fight.
Ever since the exams ended, for some reason, I’ve been getting a lot of attention from students in other classes too. It’s… honestly a bit troubling.
Not just from the guys—lately, I’ve been feeling a lot of stares from the girls as well.
Are they… scared of me or something? Even the teachers have been treating me a bit more kindly. Although the strict ones still said things like, “You should’ve done that from the start,” in their usual stern tone.
Speaking of which—Fuyuki-san actually declared war on me.
She said, “I won’t lose to you in the next finals.” Guess that means she’s glad to finally have someone she can compete with, huh?
That’s fine by me. I could use a good rival myself.
We were talking about that at Mk the other day.
“Can’t believe Tennouji-kun actually got first place!”
“It’s all thanks to Fuyuki-san’s teachings.”
“Oh, please. You were practically studying on your own.”
“If anything, you were teaching along with Rin-chan, weren’t you?”
“If it weren’t for Daiki-kun and Rin-chan, I would’ve been done for…”
“Shina barely avoided failing, and now she’s averaging 72 points. That’s quite the leap!”
“Ehehe, it’s all thanks to Rin-chan and Daiki-kun! You seriously saved me~.”
“My teacher said I improved a lot this time too.”
“Mio, you averaged 85, right? Your ranking jumped up quite a bit too.”
“Yeah, about ten spots higher. That Saturday study session really helped me with English. Thanks again!”
“Nice! Let’s keep this up for the finals.”
“Of course. I’m taking back first place next time.”
Oh boy… she’s challenging me again.
Not that it means I’ll stop helping her study or anything. But it’s nice—how we push each other to do better.
Because of that, Akitani-san and Shina-san have also been improving. It’s really a good thing all around.
“Next time, I’m aiming for an 80 average!”
“I wanna be in the single digits too~.”
“Right. Let’s all do our best.”
“Yeah. I’ll do my best too. Ah—gonna go pick some flowers.”
“Just say you’re going to the bathroom normally.”
“See ya~.”
When I came back feeling refreshed, I saw two flashy-looking guys—one blonde, one redhead—bothering Shina and the others.
Man, seriously? These kinds of “random event encounters” are straight out of NetHaza. Still, I don’t remember this being part of the story.
“Hey, ladies, you’re smokin’ hot! For real! Let us buy you a shake and hang out!”
“Told you, we’ve already got company, so no thanks.”
People actually say stuff like “smokin’ hot,” huh? And thinking a shake is enough to impress girls as gorgeous as them? Peak NetHaza behavior—whatever that means.
“Ah, Daichan!”
…Wait, Daichan? Did she just call me that?
Her way of calling me just evolved again.
It almost sounds like… we’re dating.
Sweet. Embarrassing. But— Not bad, honestly.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. What’s going on here?”
The guys glared daggers at me, but whatever.
“Well… the moment you went to the restroom, they came over…”
Even Akitani-san’s calling me “Daiki-kun” now. Guess that’s quick thinking—pretending to be friends like this. Still, my ears are having a field day right now.
“Oh, he’s your boyfriend? Then, mind lending him to us for a bit? I’ll even forget you called me ‘this guy.’”
“You think I’d hand over my friend to some cheap dudes who can’t offer more than a milkshake? Back off. I don’t need to say more, do I?”
“Huh?”
“You pickin’ a fight, punk?”
“You’re the ones pickin’ a fight by harassing these girls. Now beat it.”
“The hell did you say!? You wanna get beaten up, huh?”
“Try me. But I won’t go easy on you.”
I let a bit of pressure leak out—and they immediately flinched. So they’re all bark, huh?
I stepped forward, ready to push it just enough to scare them off, when—
“N-no violence, okay… Dai…kun.”
Oh god, today’s been a full Happy Meal for my ears. Non-transferable bliss.
“Hey, you! Come outside! I’ll crush you!”
“Don’t. He’s strong. You’ll die.”
Man, these guys really give off mid-tier thug energy.
They’re even shadow-boxing. Total amateurs.
Tennouji Daiki’s fight instincts were itching to go, but…
Fuyuki-san told me not to resort to violence.
Guess I’ll just lure them outside and deal with it calmly.
“Daiki-kun! Don’t!”
“Da…kun…”
“Alright, that’s enough. I’ll take it from here. Don’t you think so, Tennouji Daiki-kun?”
“Huh…?”
Who the heck— A woman in a suit? I don’t know her!
“Good grief… always causing trouble. Didn’t I tell you before? Both sides get punished if there’s a fight. If you use violence, I’ll arrest you.”
“What the—hey, lady, you gonna hang out with us instead?”
“Oh? I could. But this is a public place. Mind your manners.”
“What the hell!? You think you’re better than us!? I’ll kidnap you and—”
“That’s a threat. And you’ve been persistently harassing these girls—violation of the Public Nuisance Act.”
“What the hell’s your problem!? You want me to—”
Before I could move, she twisted the guy’s arm in one swift motion.
“OW OW OW OW!!!”
“W-What… just happened!?”
“Police. You’re under arrest for attempted assault.”
“Huh!? P-police!?”
Ah… right.
Now I remember.
Tennouji—the old me—used to get in trouble a lot.
That woman’s Officer Mikage Ryouko.
A police officer who’s had to deal with me more than once—fights, curfews, you name it. Ah, and there goes the red-haired one… running for his life.
“Tennouji-kun, take the girls and go. I’ll handle the rest here.”
“Aghhh!”
Yikes.
That guy’s definitely regretting his life choices.
Still, I should focus on calming everyone down first.
“Officer Mikage, sorry about the trouble. I’ll leave it to you.”
We left the rest to her and exited Mk. At the park near the station, everyone finally started to relax.
“Phew… that was scary. Tennouji-kun, thank you.”
“Nah, it’s not me you should thank. We were lucky Officer Mikage happened to be there.”
“…”
Fuyuki-san still looked tense. Well, can’t blame her—guys like that are her worst nightmare. I should’ve been more aware of our surroundings.
She’s the heroine of this game, after all—beautiful, charming… a prime target. I’ll make sure I’m around whenever she goes out from now on.
“Hey, Daichan. Who was that woman just now? You know her?”
Ah… Shina’s still calling me Daichan. That aside—her tone was scary. No highlights in her eyes. Yikes.
“Ah, uh—she’s a police officer. Used to scold me back when I got in fights or stayed out late. We know each other, but we’re not, like, close or anything!”
“Oh, I see. That’s fine then.”
Her eyes lit up again. Crisis averted. Still, better not run into Officer Mikage too often…
“Rin-chan, are you okay?”
“…Yes. I’ve calmed down now.”
“Sorry. I should’ve been more careful…”
“It’s not your fault, Tennouji-kun. We let our guard down too.”
“Let’s be careful next time. If it ever happens again, we can call the police.”
“Good thing Daichan was with us today. Still, that was scary…”
Yeah… Shina’s not dropping the “Daichan” thing anytime soon. But if I point it out, she might lose her light again— so I’ll just let it be.
We walked them home, still feeling a bit awkward, and then I headed back myself.
Fuyuki-san’s words echoed in my head—
“Violence isn’t the answer.”
She’s right.
I’ll protect everyone—but I’ll do it the right way.

The right thing is to beat them up but make it look like an accident.😋
Yeah like sometime violence is the only solution
