Fuyuki Rinko Is Shocked by the Kansai Boy.
Fuyuki Rinko’s POV.
This time’s midterm study group has gathered more than ten people again. Shina, Mio, Imamiya-kun… and this time—well, partly because I invited him—Tennouji-kun.
If I remember correctly, his grades from the first semester weren’t exactly impressive. He did say he wanted to “become a proper person,” but I wonder if he’s been keeping up with his studies. Still, if joining this session helps raise his scores even a little, that would be wonderful.
“Fuyuki-san, um, can you help me with this part?”
“Rinko-san, I’m stuck on this question…”
Another wave of questions. I suppose I should call this a good kind of chaos. I’m happy to help, but teaching takes time—there’s a limit to how many people I can get to in one session. Sometimes Imamiya-kun lends a hand, but it looks like he’s managing fine today…
When I glance over at Tennouji-kun, he doesn’t seem to be struggling at all. Not once has he raised his hand or looked lost. I wonder if he’s really okay.
Then again… for some reason, I find myself watching him more than I should.
“Fuyuki-san?”
“Ah—! Sorry, I was spacing out. This problem, right? Here’s how you do it…”
Good grief. I’m supposed to be leading this group, not daydreaming. But still… lately, I keep sneaking glances at Tennouji-kun.
And—well—I even changed my hairstyle, and switched to glasses, because he once mentioned he liked that kind of look.
When I asked my mother for advice, she just smiled and said, “Oh my, oh my,” with that knowing grin of hers… honestly, what was that supposed to mean?
***
“What the—this one’s super easy. You seriously don’t get this? Unbelievable.”
A sharp voice came from behind me. That’s something no tutor should ever say. Talking down to others like that—honestly, who does he think he is?
When I turned around, of course, it was Imamiya-kun. And beside him, Shina was fuming. Wait… did he just say that to her? Good grief…
***
“Tch, fine, I’ll show you how it’s done. So, you just— huh? Shina?”
“Forget it. I’ll do it myself.”
Shina turned her back on him and walked away. Well, who could blame her? After hearing something like that, I wouldn’t want to be taught by him either.
Still… what’s gotten into Imamiya-kun lately? He’s been oddly arrogant, like he’s got something to prove.
“What’s her problem all of a sudden?”
Think about what you just said, honestly. It’s no mystery why Shina’s mad.
Shina ended up heading toward Tennouji-kun’s side of the room. Maybe she’s really struggling this time. I could intervene—but that wouldn’t be fair to the others. Being the organizer means no favoritism. Still… it’s hard not to worry.
“Ah, this question? Yeah, it’s a bit tricky. But look here—check the formula in the textbook. See? This equation matches up with this one right here. And this part links to that section.”
Tennouji-kun started explaining the formula to Shina.
Before long, her eyes lit up with understanding, and she began solving the equation herself. Wait a moment… I hadn’t looked at his grades before since I wasn’t that interested, but—could it be that Tennouji-kun is actually good at this?
“I got it! Daiki-kun, look—is this right?”
“Yeah, that’s correct.”
“Yay! Daiki-kun, you’re amazing! That was super easy to understand!”
Shina threw her arms around him in excitement. So she solved it on her own after following his guidance… that’s incredible. Normally, Shina needs me to explain things two or three times before it clicks—but with him, once was enough!?
“Hey, Daiki-kun, what about this one?”
“Huh? Wait, this is a college entrance exam question from one of the hardest universities. Whoever picked this for the set deserves a complaint… but then again, I wouldn’t put it past our teachers. Gimme five minutes, I think I can crack it.”
W-wait, that question? The one even I—
“Excuse me, do you mind if I join in? There’s something I’d like to ask you too, Tennouji-kun.”
“Ah, yeah, sure. Just give me a sec.”
Apologies to the students I was helping, but I couldn’t resist peeking over his shoulder.
As I thought—it’s that same question I’d been struggling with myself. Really, who thought it was a good idea to include a problem like this in a textbook?
Tennouji-kun’s pen moved smoothly across the notebook, writing one neat line after another. Even when he reached the point where I’d been stuck, he just kept going—effortlessly.
“Got it. All right, here’s how you do it. This one’s pretty tough, so I’ll go slow. Oh—Fuyuki-san?”
“That problem… I’ve been struggling with it myself. Could you walk me through it, if you don’t mind?”
“Eh? You too, Rin-chan? I was just about to ask him the same thing,” Mio added.
Both Shina and Mio were now fixated on his notebook.
“Okay, here’s the breakdown. First, you handle this equation like this. Then, by rearranging it, you get this solution, right? Now, you substitute that back into here…”
Astonishing. He solved the equations step by step, swiftly and elegantly.
“And if you transform this part here, you can prove that these two expressions yield the same result. Proof complete. That’s your answer.”
“Woooah! Daiki-kun, that’s amazing!”
“I’m… honestly impressed. That’s incredible.”
“Nah, but this is just my own way of solving it. There’s probably a simpler approach. I’ll go ask the teacher real quick, just to be sure.”
Tennouji-kun grabbed his notebook and textbook and headed to the staff room. Shina practically bounced in place.
“Daiki-kun might actually be, like, super smart!”
“Maybe… but he wasn’t among the top scorers last semester, was he?”
That much I know for certain.
I always keep track of the top ten students—sometimes even the top thirty—and his name wasn’t on the list. Mio, if I recall, ranked around twenty-second.
Still, this was shocking. To solve such a difficult problem so easily… just what happened to him over the summer break?
Surely he didn’t—get into an accident or get experimented on by some secret organization? …No, that’s absurd.
“The teacher said my solution works just fine. Don’t know why, but he even gave me money for juice! Said I should treat everyone during the break.”
“Daiki-kun’s so lucky! Juice! Juice!”
“It’s still early in the session, so we’ll wait a bit, okay?”
“Eeeeh~ but I’m thirsty!”
“C’mon, hang in there a little longer…”
“Tennouji-kun, would you mind if I took a look at your notebook?”
“Yeah, go ahead.”
He handed it over without hesitation. It only covered the second term’s material, but… the notes were so neatly written, well-organized, and precise. So this is what they call a delinquent’s notebook? It’s practically art.
His handwriting’s clean too—each equation aligned perfectly. It’s honestly satisfying just to read.
“Tennouji-kun, would it be all right if I copied this formula into my notes?”
“Of course! If it helps, go ahead.”
I took a few minutes to copy it carefully. This should really help with my review later.
“Hey, Tennouji-kun, could you help me too?”
“Me as well!”
“Sure thing. Let’s start with Tsumura-kun, then.”
After solving that one problem, Tennouji-kun had drawn a small crowd of students around him. Even Mio was among them, watching him work with a serious expression. I glanced over, just once—and his solution was flawless.
***
“Um, Fuyuki-san?”
“Ah—! Sorry… I’ll get back to my group.”
I tried to focus on my own students again, but… I couldn’t concentrate. By the time I finished answering the remaining questions, he had already solved the next few problems.
Ugh… I wanted to see that one too.
“Tennouji-kun, could you show me how you solved that last question as well?”
He smiled, without a hint of annoyance.
“Sure. Eh? Shina-san too? And Akitani-san? All right, all right, let’s go over it together. So first—”
As he began explaining again, I found my eyes drawn not to his notebook…
…but to his expression.
That calm focus, the way his eyes narrowed slightly when he was deep in thought— For some reason, I couldn’t look away.

man, I also missed teaching and being teached by my friends during our general mathematics or pre-calculus. Oh conic sections…
Ah the good old “Hence proved” math questions. Brings a tear to my eyes remembering those days.
Yep. Imamiya is definitely finished.
😂😂 He is paving his own destruction
