Chapter 03: Eavesdropping in the Beauties’ Conversation
While Rin, Yuna, and Sara were engrossed in love talk, Haruya was pretending to sleep alone and had blended into the background of the class.
(… The manga I bought yesterday was hilarious)
He ignored the lively conversations of his classmates, including Rin, Yuna, and Sara’s.
Instead, he recalled the scenes from the manga he had bought yesterday and chuckled quietly.
No one noticed Haruya, who kept his head down on his desk. He was just an inconspicuous air mob in the class.
However, for Haruya, who believed in the principle of “trying not to stand out,” this situation wasn’t that bad at all for him.
Above all, being with someone meant less time alone, and considering various things like “relationships” and the potential for “bullying” if he was disliked, being alone was much easier and more comfortable.
Haruya was used to being ignored in class because of his personality. He smiled at his desk as he thought about yesterday.
(Yesterday’s manga was awesome… it was cliché, but still…)
Haruya had a secret hobby: he loved “shoujo manga.” He bought new ones discreetly and read them alone in his room.
That’s why he went to the department store yesterday: to get a new shojo manga.
(…But clichés are good. I like the scenes where the heroine is saved from the playboys.)
Haruya was so immersed in the shoujo manga that he smiled involuntarily.
He felt conflicted inside.
But he remembered how he acted yesterday, and it reminded him of a shoujo manga scene. He felt ashamed of himself.
(Yesterday was unbelievable… It was like a shoujo manga come to life. I was so pathetic that I could only shiver.)
Haruya was thinking about yesterday’s incident when he helped a girl who was harassed on the “back route.”
He felt disappointed by his own weakness, but then he heard a conversation near his seat that caught his attention.
“—But…when I was in trouble, that cool guy came and scared away the creepy man for me.”
It was Himekawa Sara’s voice that reached Haruya’s ear.
Her story was very similar to his own, so he listened carefully while pretending to sleep.
(… Heh. So someone else in our class had a similar experience. Maybe, harassment is more common than I thought, not just in fiction.)
Haruya thought, as his worldview changed.
“Wow, it’s just like a shoujo manga scene.”
“Hee, how lucky~”
Yuna exclaimed in surprise, and Rin followed suit.
Haruya agreed with Yuna’s comment, and thought,
(I know. It really is like a shoujo manga scene. This kind of harassment and rescue… I’m glad there are people who share my taste.)
Haruya was about to sigh in relief, but Sara’s next words made him excited as a shoujo manga fan.
“Also… he was shaking with anger and ready to protect me. He was so cool, and so nice to me afterwards too.”
Haruya admired how different he was from the guy who helped the girl. He felt like the guy they were talking about was a shoujo manga prince, and here he was, just snooping on their conversation.
(Wow, that’s amazing. It really seems like they’re meant for each other. It’s unbelievable that there’s a real story like this, just like in a shoujo manga… the world is so big.)
Haruya saw the excitement and curiosity of her friends Rin and Yuna, who seemed to agree with him.
Then, Haruya imagined his own scenarios, even though it might be a bit weird.
(…So, the guy who saved the girl in our class meets her again… and they get close… and then a rival shows up… It’s thrilling, there are so many possibilities!)
Haruya enjoyed his fantasies as if they were someone else’s story, not knowing that he was the one who saved the aforementioned girl.
This was partly due to the fact that he had just started high school, and partly because Haruya had no interest in class dynamics or gossip. Therefore, he was unable to recognize that he was the one who helped the class’s top beauty.
