Chapter 15.2: Heavenly Revelation
“So that’s your big move. Fine, let’s do it. I’ll prove that I want to serve Al-kun more strongly than you do—”
“Mel is the one who gets served! And there’s no such thing in this world as something Mel wants but can’t have! Because Mel is the closest person to the stars in the whole world—!!”
The two of them kept building up more and more power, clearly on the verge of clashing right there in that place.
And yet, even though I temporarily forgot about the trembling villagers behind me, I alone couldn’t help feeling excited about this new discovery.
Yes—the technique Mel-chan was about to unleash, the way the star sign was moving. Even though it was drawing a pattern that looked like a magic circle, it was probably not something Mel-chan was consciously controlling.
When someone casts normal magic, you can usually sense from their concentration, their words, or the atmosphere that they’re about to activate it, because it requires focused mana manipulation.
But right now, I couldn’t feel any concentration at all coming from Mel-chan. And yet the star sign was still forming the circle all by itself.
Surely it was automatically tracing the most efficient movements for using the star sign offensively. Like replaying laws engraved into the world itself—it really did feel like the presence of something transcendent, something divine…
But what I was thinking right now wasn’t about whether God exists or not. Nor was it about the enormous powers about to collide right in front of me.
It was neither of those things.
What flashed through my mind was… that hair, sparkling with countless silver stars.
“If this works, then maybe we can finally find a clue to solving the princess’s unique magic problem too—”
The moment I murmured that—
The two stars, now shining at their absolute limit, finally bared their fangs at each other.
“Be trapped inside an invisible cage of slashes and regret your arrogance… —Kutai Kan’gan Yusai”
“You should be the one apologizing for your rudeness toward a child of the stars…! —Star’s Wrath, Sanato!”
In the direction of Suu-san’s ice-cold gaze, I could sense countless invisible slashes crossing each other, forming a lattice-like plane that flew forward.
Every time the edges of that plane touched the anti-magic steel walls, deep gashes were carved deeper and deeper as the slashes advanced.
And as for Mel-chan on the other side—
Was that… an extremely thick beam? But it wasn’t just any beam; it carried some kind of deeply ominous presence.
My gut told me that if that thing hit you, something truly important would be destroyed forever…
But then.
That light of destruction and Suu-san’s invisible slashing plane finally collided head-on.
And—they balanced each other out.
“—She stopped Mel’s light!? That should be impossible for any normal attack to even interfere with!!”
“And on this side… an invisible slash that cuts through everything…!!”
Both of them had probably poured their ultimate techniques into those attacks, so neither could hide their shock at having them stopped.
Even so, they immediately poured more ki and star sign energy into their moves, each trying to break through the other’s trump card. As expected of them. Now both were fully baring their teeth, raising their output to try and shatter the deadlock.
A harsh grinding sound like something being scraped away echoed, while dangerous glints of light and slashing remnants scattered everywhere around them.
And then.
While I covered the villagers with a veil of magic power to protect them from the aftermath of Suu-san and the others’ clash,
I called forth the star sign.
“Pseudo 【Stellar Heaven】—. Since Mel-chan is completely occupied dealing with Suu-san… right now, I’ll try a new way of using it.”
Instead of trying to forcibly control the golden-shining power, I simply drew a rough outline of the circle—and then… whoa, it really did move on its own!
I couldn’t help staring wide-eyed at the incredibly intricate structure of the golden magic circle that had unfolded right in front of me.
“M-Mage-sama…!? What is this… these huge circles, so many of them!?”
Five overlapping magic circles—each one about as wide as two people standing side by side, the maximum size that could fit in the corridor—had appeared, each with slightly different sizes and structures.
“…Huh…? What’s that, Mel didn’t know about… Onii-san?!”
Mel-chan finally noticed and stared at me in a daze.
Looking at her like that, I felt satisfied with the success of my new experiment.
I gave her a gentle smile and said,
“—Do you… give up?”
—And so, in the end,
we managed to escape the Church of the Supreme Star facility without a single person getting hurt.
We were surprised to find out that we were already inside the territory of the Zikir Republic, but thanks to the princess’s orders, the kingdom’s forces had been deployed along the border. We linked up with them and safely returned to the kingdom.
The reunion with the princess—who had been furious with Zikir and was just about to storm in personally—did cause a bit of a scene, but that’s a story for another time.
Happy New Year everyone!
I hope you’ll continue enjoying this little story of mine again this year!
By the way, what Mel-chan used in this chapter was that thing—a gamma-ray burst. The fact that Suu-san managed to stop something like that already means she’s long since left the realm of ordinary humans…
