Chapter 15.1: Heavenly Revelation
Mel-chan didn’t seem to notice Suu-san’s sword creeping up from behind at all. It looks like Suu-san’s sneak attack is going to work.
…But Suu-san, you’re not actually planning to kill her, right? You know perfectly well that would cause a massive headache, so you’re just going to knock her out, yeah?
“—Kill…!!”
I could see her spinning the sword around to slam it into Mel-chan’s stomach with the flat side, but with that kind of force, she’d probably die anyway.
I instantly tried to call out to stop Suu-san, but right after that—
A sight I could hardly believe appeared before my eyes.
“Kyaa—!? Wh-what? Behind me?!”
The fact that Mel-chan let out that cry meant…
…Suu-san’s sword hadn’t managed to knock her unconscious. From what she just said, it didn’t even seem like she had noticed Suu-san’s presence until then.
So what happened to the sword that was aimed at the back of Mel-chan’s neck?
“—My sword… won’t move forward…!?”
That familiar silver light—the star sign—was gathering at the nape of Mel-chan’s neck. It wriggled as if it had a mind of its own… and somehow, it was physically holding Suu-san’s sword in place.
“Th-this…!!”
“Wah…? …っ”
Suu-san grunted as she tried to force the sword in harder, while Mel-chan, startled for a second, then scrunched her face up a little shyly.
“…Why are you behind me? Sneak attacks are so barbaric…!”
“The one who kidnaps people and locks them up is way more barbaric…! Ngh, this… it’s completely independent of your will, isn’t it?!”
Yeah, it really seemed like what Suu-san said. By now Suu-san had started unleashing ultra-fast slashes without even caring about using the flat of the blade anymore, but the edge wasn’t getting through at all.
When I looked closely, I saw a white-silver aura moving in tiny, precise motions, perfectly intercepting Suu-san’s sword strikes—even though they should have been impossible for any normal person to react to.
This behavior… if I had to say, it did feel familiar. It was the same as Complete Regression—where the star sign independently heals any injury or illness without any input from the user.
“—Suu-san! It looks like the star sign can perform completely independent interceptions, separate from the user’s will! The special characteristic of the star sign is probably… realizing ideals while partially ignoring even the magical restrictions of this world!”
“Ideals? I don’t really get it… but this is really troublesome…!”
I’d already sort of suspected something like that.
Complete Regression doesn’t require any of the medical knowledge about the human body that normal healing magic needs—it just unconditionally heals the body. Even Adamantine Reinforcement somehow ignores the precise reinforcement multipliers for each body part that should normally be necessary, and everything works out perfectly with a casual activation.
I only recently became able to use the star sign, and during the day I’m mostly helping the princess with government affairs, so I hadn’t really had much chance to test it.
Basically, unlike normal magic, you don’t have to think about the mechanism or physical limitations at all—it just somehow gives you the result you want in a nice way.
The clearest example of that was the automatic interception that Mel-chan was doing right now.
“Ugh… this girl clearly isn’t even tracking my sword!”
“Mel is loved by the stars, you know. That’s why no matter how much you try, you’ll never reach her!”
“Ngh… I can’t show Al-kun any more pathetic sides of myself. —Then how about this…!”
—Wait, what’s that?
The moment Suu-san stepped back from Mel-chan and raised her sword with a sharp battle cry—
A huge amount of ki started gathering around the blade, and its shine kept growing brighter.
“This ki is different from before. I’m drawing out the ki that’s tied to the very composition of my body. That’s why both its density and purity are on a completely different level than anything I’ve used so far—”
The composition of the body…?
…Could it be. I think I’ve heard of this before.
There are rare people who are born able to manipulate ki—or rather, ki is so deeply soaked into their very flesh that they can draw out its benefits to an extreme degree without even thinking about it.
Even among the already small number of people with ki manipulation talent, only a tiny handful possess this gift.
They are called those who surpass human limits—superhumans.
“—Did you know? When extremely pure ki repeatedly converges, it gradually loses its color.”
Just as Suu-san said, the green tint of the aura covering the sword slowly faded away.
In its place, its sheer presence only grew stronger and stronger.
It was clear, pure… and somehow felt close to something fundamental, an energy that resembled the star sign itself.
“…What’s that? Are you trying to copy Mel or something? That’s so annoying… so annoying, annoying, annoying!! You keep getting in the way when I try to take Onii-san, and now you’re standing up to me too!”
On the other hand, Mel-chan had changed too.
She wasn’t just doing automatic interception anymore—now she was actively trying to attack. A massive amount of silver light welled up, swirling into a circular shape.
…Wait, is that… a magic circle?
“You know what happens when I turn the star sign into an attack, right? There won’t even be dust left of you!”
