Chapter 13: Rei-samaaahhh! Don’t throw me awaaaay!
“The train is now arriving. Please stand behind the yellow line while you wait.”
The station announcement echoed through the platform, signaling the train’s approach.
“You okay, Rei?”
“I’m okay…”
“You’re not having trouble breathing or feeling dizzy, are you?”
“Fufu, you really are sweet, Saito.”
Her grip on my arm tightened.
“Well, of course I’m worried.”
It just so happened that this train…
Was the same line, at the same time, in the same weather as the one from that day—the day of the assault.
Too many things lined up perfectly to trigger those bad memories.
Honestly, this might not have been the best day to try getting back on the train.
“But this time’s different. You’re with me from the start. And if something happens… you’ll protect me, right, Saito?”
“Y-Yeah. You can count on me.”
“Ah, but then again, all you’ve got in a crisis is your signature ‘Whoa-Whoa’ move.”
Rei looked up at me with a playful smirk,
Though I noticed a light sheen of sweat on her forehead.
“That’s more than enough. As long as I can stall for a bit—give you time to run—that’s all that matters.”
“Fuuuh…”
“Hey, you okay? Your face is turning red.”
“It’s nothing… You just hit me with an unexpected comeback and now my heart’s racing a little.”
“R-Right… Should we skip this train for now just in case?”
The train had just arrived at the platform,
But letting one pass wouldn’t be a problem—we still had plenty of time.
“This racing heartbeat… it’s totally for a different reason, okay…? Mou, seriously! Look, the train’s here! Let’s go, Saito!”
With that, Rei started pushing me from behind, practically shoving me onto the train.
Somehow, even though she was the one doing the rehab,
I ended up being the one dragged into the scene of her trauma.
She moved behind me, so I couldn’t see her face—
I had no idea what kind of expression she was making right now.
◇◇◇◆◇◇◇
“Rei, we’re on the train now. Maybe you should grab a hand strap?”
“Nope. I’m a girl, remember? I can’t reach them.”
“I mean… for a girl, you’re actually pretty tall. You can totally reach them.”
Even though I made a reasonable point,
Rei didn’t budge—literally.
She had no intention of letting go of my arm.
This is bad, though.
If the train makes a sudden stop, she could fall.
Not really a recommended riding method.
“This is just more comforting.”
After hearing that, and considering I agreed to help her get through this,
There was no way I could say no.
“Yeah, well… I’m the one who’s not calm now…”
Same as earlier on the way to the station—
But now, we were trapped in a confined space.
Inside the train, the stares we were getting felt… intense.
I glanced around just a bit,
And yep—definitely a lot of eyes on us.
“Eh…? …………Eh!?“
“Wait… my prince… is wearing a skirt…?”
“Rei-sama is holding a guy’s arm… wait… what…? What…?”
“T-This has to be a hallucination—one of those illusions Satan shows you before you die, right…? Right…?“
The train car had started buzzing with uneasy whispers.
Turns out, it was a group of girls in the same school uniform as Rei,
All muttering to themselves like they were trying to make sense of a nightmare.
Even without looking closely, I could tell—they all went to Eio Girls’ High, just like Rei.
“Uh, hey, Rei… Pretty sure some of your classmates are emotionally collapsing over there.”
“It’s probably just because they’re not used to seeing me in a skirt.”
“Yeah, okay—but then why do they all look like salarymen on the edge of throwing themselves in front of a morning express train?”
“Hmm… maybe there’s a big test today or something?”
Rei totally played dumb,
But let’s be real—the school’s ‘prince’ suddenly showing up in a skirt, clinging to a guy’s arm?
Yeah, I’m pretty sure that’s the reason their brains are short-circuiting.
“R-Rei-sama!”
One of the girls, looking like she’d just worked up the courage, stepped toward us, eyes a little watery.
Ah—this girl.
She was there the day of the assault.
She helped comfort Rei afterward.
She was petite, had her hair in a side ponytail… super cute.
“Good morning, Sasaki-san. Sorry for worrying you. And thanks for the notes while I was out.”
Rei spoke in a regal, prince-like tone as she thanked the girl.
Ah, so this is her “prince mode”—the version she puts on in front of the other girls.
Though for some reason, she was still firmly clinging to my arm.
“N-No, it’s nothing! More importantly, Rei-sama… this gentleman… From the looks of it, isn’t he the one who stepped in during the incident when you were attacked?”
“Yep. It’s my first time riding the train since then, so I asked him to come with me.”
“I-I see. So that’s what this is.”
Sasaki-san, speaking in her elegant, refined tone, let out a visible sigh of relief.
The other girls nearby—who had all been holding their breath—also eased up, watching the two of us closely.
“He’s someone very important to me.”
“””EH!?”””
In perfect sync, they all let out an unladylike scream—
the kind of shout you’d expect from a group of middle-aged men on a roller coaster of emotional despair.
From relief to heartbreak in under two seconds.
Come on, Rei.
Why not just say friend?
Why’d you have to say it in such a dramatic, misleading way?
“Are you okay, Sasaki-san? You sound a little congested.”
“W-What do you mean by ‘someone important’!? You don’t mean…!”
Rei tilted her head with concern,
While Sasaki-san suddenly fired back, looking half-panicked.
“Just what it sounds like. Saito’s someone who saved me.”
“Y-Yes, of course… That makes perfect sense. Um, you said your name was Saito-san, correct? I’m Kana Sasaki. I attend Eio Girls’ High, and I serve as the president of Rei-sama’s fan club—also acting as the captain of her personal guard. Thank you very much for helping Rei-sama that day.”
“Ah, no, really—it’s nothing. Thanks for the kind words. I’m Saito Kujou.”
Sasaki-san bowed deeply, and I instinctively returned the gesture.
Then, as if on cue, several other Eio girls who were on the same train car followed her lead and bowed as well.
Wow…
She did say she was in a “guard unit,” and it really felt like a military squad in formation.
Honestly… kinda scary.
“From now on, we’ll take full responsibility for Rei-sama’s transportation and safety to and from school. Thank you for your assistance.”
Right after expressing her gratitude, Sasaki-san made it crystal clear that she was taking over.
It didn’t take a genius to feel the unspoken message behind her words:
This is our domain—hands off.
Behind her, the rest of the guard girls were nodding along in perfect sync.
“Now then, Rei-sama, this way please. We have much to tell you about what you missed while you were absent—”
“Eh, no thanks. I wanna stay with Saito.”
Sasaki-san tried to pull Rei away by the arm—
But Rei just tightened her grip around mine with a fierce determination.
Whoa, wait—Rei… You’re pressing against me…
Because she was holding on so tightly to resist being separated,
That… soft part of her chest was now firmly pressed against my arm.
Yup.
That softness confirms it—Rei really is a girl.
“What is the meaning of this, Rei-sama!? Don’t tell me… are you being threatened by this man!?”
“…Huh?”
All of my focus had just been hijacked by the feeling against my elbow,
So I totally lagged in reacting to Sasaki-san’s sudden accusation.
“You didn’t answer right away—just as I suspected! This man is threatening you!”
“No, that’s not it! Hold on a sec—let’s all calm down!”
There’s no way I could tell them the real reason I didn’t respond was because I was momentarily overwhelmed by Rei’s, uh, softness.
“Stay away, you degenerate! If you speak to me again, I’ll get pregnant!”
“…What?”
As I tried to explain, Sasaki-san dramatically leapt back like I was some kind of biohazard.
Okay, yes, I was momentarily distracted by Rei’s chest,
And maybe—just maybe—I gave off a bit of pervy energy in that moment,
But come on… You can’t get pregnant just from talking.
“Men are all the same!”
“Disgusting pig.”
“Utter filth.”
Okay…
Yeah, I guess I can’t really deny being a bit of a degenerate in that moment…
Still, aren’t they all going a little overboard!?
Being glared at and verbally torn apart by a bunch of elite private school girls might be some niche guy’s idea of a good time—
But for an average high school boy in the middle of puberty, this was straight-up psychological trauma.
“That’s enough.”
A sharp, icy voice cut clean through the rising chaos like a blade.
“R-Rei-sama…?”
Rei, with her brows furrowed and anger clear on her face, stared them down coldly.
Sasaki-san looked completely stunned.
Yeah—
She’s mad.
And not just the kind of mad she showed when arguing with her mom the other day.
This was next level.
“What’s wrong with all of you? That’s how you treat someone who saved me?”
The train car, which had been filled with whispers and tension just moments ago, went completely silent.
I’d thought Rei was scary when I’d mistaken her for a cool, handsome boy…
But now I knew—
A beautiful girl getting angry is just as scary, if not worse.
“Rei-sama… we were only—”
“Apologize.”
Rei’s cold gaze cut right through Sasaki-san, freezing her where she stood like a frightened little animal.
No room for excuses.
“I… I’m sorry for overstepping, Rei-sama…”
“You’re apologizing to the wrong person. Say it to Saito.”
No mercy.
Even as Sasaki-san trembled and tried to speak, Rei didn’t let up in the slightest.
“I… I just…”
“If you can’t do it, then this is where things end between us, Sasaki-san. Goodbye.”
“W-What!? Rei-samaaaaah!! Please don’t throw me awaaaay!!”
“Whoa, whoa, Rei—come on, let’s not go that far.”
And so it happened—
In broad daylight, right in the middle of a crowded train car:
A sobbing, clinging ojou-sama from an elite girls’ school,
A former “prince” staring down at her coldly,
And me, stuck in the middle, frantically trying to defuse the drama.
“Guh… I-I deeply apologize for my disrespectful behavior…”
Sasaki-san bit her lip so hard it looked like she might draw blood,
Her eyes filled with trembling rage even as she bowed and apologized to me.
Of course, by now, everyone on the train was watching us.
“Hey, isn’t that the high school guy from that viral video? The ‘Whoa-Whoa Dude’?”
“Yeah, except this time, instead of gangsters, he’s saying ‘whoa-whoa’ to girls from a fancy school.”
“Is that literally the only thing he can say when things get tense?”
“That girl’s shaking while apologizing…”
“Wait—hold on. The kid who got hit in that video… was a girl!?!”
“So she got saved by ‘Whoa-Whoa Dude’ and… fell for him?”
Ah…
Yep.
I’ve just added fresh fuel to the fire.
And so, surrounded by a wailing Sasaki-san, a visibly furious Rei, and a crowd of Eio girls glaring at me like I was literal trash while half-heartedly trying to comfort their devastated class rep—
I hit total mental shutdown.
In the end, all I could do…
Was whisper another helpless,
“…Whoa.”
And once again, I was painfully reminded of how useless I truly am in situations like this.
