Chapter 3: Liam Begins His Journey with Lydia

“Ah, Lydia-san! I wasn’t trying to—”

As I slowly regained my senses, I tried to clear up the misunderstanding with Lydia and apologize. However, by the time I was fully aware, Lydia had already put her armor back. She was all ready to go.

“Huh?…Lydia-san, just when did you…?”

“I took the opportunity to put on my armor while you were still in a daze. Also, Liam. I believe you didn’t do it on purpose either. We’ve only met for a short while, but I can tell that you are a very kind person.”

“..!! Lydia-san…!”

Even though she was wounded under the armor, but had I thought things more carefully, I could’ve handled it differently. However, seeing Lydia-san in paid just made me panic so much. I ended up doing something horribly improper to Lydia-san. It wouldn’t be strange if Lydia-san assumed I had impure thoughts toward her and yet, Lydia-san’s eyes were so clear. She didn’t show any hint of doubt against me. She was truly a kind person. 

“Lydia-san, thank you so much—”

“But.”

She interrupted me before I could finish my sentence. Her voice was firm and sharp.

“I know you didn’t do it on purpose and I understand the situation forced you to do that, but the fact still remains. You saw this Lydia Astoria’s bare skin. Not only that, you even saw me in my underwear. You have to take responsibility for that.”

“H-Huh? Responsibility…?!”

“Liam, you may not know this, but I am a proud member of the Astoria family. A family of knights who have served the royal family of a certain country for generations. I’m not trying to brag, but I’ve been recognized as a knight of the highest rank in my country. This fact is not only known by the people of my country, but to anyone who understands the prestige of knighthood. I take great pride in being a knight of the Astoria family.”

She was saying something incredibly amazing. I couldn’t fully grasp the full extent of her speech, but Lydia-san continued on without faltering. 

“And.. Throughout my life, I have never shown my bare skin, other than parts like my arms or legs, to anyone. It goes without saying no man has ever seen me in my underwear either. As someone born into a proud family of knights, I hope you understand just how important this is for me.”

“Ye-Yes. I-I think I can understand…. Somehow.”

“Since you understand, the only thing left to do is for you to take responsibility, Liam.”

“Re-Responsibility…? U-Umm… What exactly do I have to do…?”

I nervously asked Lydia-san. Since she had been talking so seriously, the tense mood in the air was almost palpable, even though she was a kind and beautiful person. Maybe because she came from a family of knights? That must be the reason why she seemed so serious. If she were to demand a large sum of money from me… Ah… What should I do then? Zayn-san and the others had given me some of the reward money despite my shortcomings, but I had spent most of the money by now. I couldn’t afford to give Lydia-san a lot of money right now. My heart was pounding as I braced myself for her next words. Then, Lydia-san smiled softly before she said.

“Liam-san, I would like to receive the honor to accompany you from here on.”

“Huh…?”

My heart was pounding wildly as I waited for what kind of demand she would make, but the words that came out of Lydia-san’s mouth were beyond my wildest imagination. I stood there, dumbfounded as Lydia-san continued. 

“Or… Am I going to be a nuisance to you, Liam-san?”

“NO! Not at all! I-I’m just a bit surprised because I didn’t expect you’d say something like that… Besides, I’m only going to travel around to train. I don’t think you can see anything interesting if you come with me…”

“Really? I think it sounds wonderful. Embarking on a journey together with Liam-san for training. I can easily imagine our trip would be very enjoyable indeed.”

I still couldn’t understand what made Lydia-san say something like that, but… If this was the kind of responsibility she asked, I could definitely oblige. 

“Alright. Lydia-san, I will be in your care from now on!”

“Yes! Me too, Liam-san! I will be in your care!”

When I gave her a positive response, Lydia-san responded with a warm, gentle smile. After that, we left the cave to go to the next destination. The land of the elves. This was the beginning of my journey… No. The beginning of our journey.
