Chapter 27: Liam, Tells the Reason for His Expulsion

The three of us were gazing up at the giant tree while expressing our amazement about the tree. We began walking toward the central part of the tree, the base of its roots. Meria-san was leading us to the place where I should channel my magic power into. 

“By the way… Liam-kun, what’s the deal with those three from earlier? What kind of relationship do they have with you, Liam-kun?”

We were walking together when Meria-san asked me that question. Lydia-san also nodded in agreement, seemingly having the same question as Meria-san.

“I’m curious about that as well… I was planning to ask after those two regained their consciousness, but well… They already ran away before we could do anything about them.”

“It didn’t seem like a simple argument between random travelers either… They knew your name… Or to be precise, they seemed to know a lot about you, Liam-kun. You also seemed to know who they were. Well, not that I could remember their name. Only Liam-kun matters to me. His name doesn’t matter to me. I already forgot his name, but the point is… You know him, right?”

Considering both Meria-san and Lydia-san had fought Zayn-san and his group with the intention to protect me, it was only fair for me to answer their question. No, in fact, it was my duty to answer all the questions they had about it. And so, I nodded my head in response to Meria-san’s question.

“Yes. Zayn-san and I… We were former party members.”

Zayn-san wouldn’t have expelled me from the party if I wasn’t incompetent. So, while I was really angry at Zayn-san for insulting Lydia-san and Meria-san, but I genuinely didn’t hold any resentment over being expelled. I was well aware of my own shortcomings. 

“If Liam-san is considered as incompetent, then all living beings are trash.”

We were still walking toward the central part of the giant tree, where roots were, while Lydia-san and Meria-san were bickering like usual. The masked man last said before disappearing again.

Zayn muttered. His two party members nodded in agreement. The three of them suppressed their laughter so the nearby elf guards wouldn’t hear them.
