Chapter 19: Liam, Being Taught?

“Da-Damn it!! What the hell is going on here?! How can a single orc put us through the mud like this?!”

Zayn yelled with fury after he almost died in a fight with a single orc. He and his party somehow managed to return to town with their life still intact.

“That orc is definitely not an ordinary orc. It has to be a leader-type orc or something. After all, there’s no way all three of us couldn’t even defeat a normal orc~”

“But aren’t those kinds of leader-orc usually roam in groups? That orc was alone.”

“It… It must’ve gotten separated from its pack! Orcs is not known for having great teamwork anyway!~”

“I see! That makes sense!”

Seemingly unable to accept the fact that they had lost to a single orc, the two members of Zayn’s party started coming up with illogical excuses. Their pride as A-rank adventurers wouldn’t let them accept that fact. 

Zayn then added.

“Well, maybe we were unlucky this time. Besides! Our forte is in magic, not in physical combat! There’s no need to feel down about this!”

“Yeah!”

“I know, right?~”

The other two nodded at Zayn’s words. The three of them were walking through the town, finally feeling confident again at themselves when suddenly, a woman came to approach Zayn.

“Hey, Zayn, do you know where Liam-kun is?  I want to give him cookies as thanks for the other day!”

“If you’re talking about Liam, I kicked him out of my party, so I don’t know where he is now. He’s probably wandering the streets by now.”

“W-what!? What were you thinking!?”

“What do you mean?”

“What do you mean…? Haah… Nothing. Whatever. Bye.”

Leaving only those curt words behind, the woman shot a cold look at Zayn and his group before walking away.

“The same thing happened earlier today before we went on to defeat the orc..”

“Those women must be jealous of us because we’re A-rank adventurers. How scary~”

“Scary~ Super scary~”

Even though that woman wasn’t being jealous of them, Zayn’s party members were convinced those women were simply jealous of them. They looked kind of pleased at themselves when they said so and hearing that, Zayn responded in kind. The corner of his mouth curled up into a smirk as he said. 

“A lot happened today, but let’s grab a drink to forget about it. Remember our goal. We just need to keep doing quest to earn money and reach S-rank someday.”

The other two nodded at Zayn’s words. They were on their way toward the tavern and… 

“Hey, where’s Liam-kun?”

“Do you know where Liam-kun is?”

“I want to give this to Liam-kun…”

Again and again, people kept asking about Liam. Every time Zayn answered that they didn’t know because they had kicked Liam out, the women always gave them cold looks as they left.

“Tch… Everyone keeps asking us about Liam, Liam, Liam… Just what the heck is wrong with them?!”

“They probably just wanted to see his dumb face again. Anyway, Zayn~ Let’s hurry up and get to the tavern~ I want to drink!~”

“Me too! Me too!”

“Yeah, yeah. I get it.”

Though Zayn had a gnawing feeling bugging him, but he decided to ignore it and focus on going to the tavern to get some drinks. With that, he headed to the tavern with his other party members. Later on, after they had started drinking and the alcohol began seeping through their system…

“You must be Zayn-san, right? I have an interesting offer for you. Would you be willing to listen to me for a moment?”

A mysterious figure, seemingly a man, with a tuxedo and a top hat and a suspicious mask that covered his face, came to Zayn. 

“Huh?? Don’t you know it’s not good to bother people when they’re drinking?!”

The masked man carried the tone of a merchant. He then said to Zayn. 

“Please, there’s no need to be so cautious of me. You see, I’ve heard many good things about you. Especially about how talented you are…”

“Talented, huh? Now we’re talking.”

“Yes, and I have an offer for you. So? How about it? Would you be willing to consider it?”

“Huh? If you’re asking me for a favor, then of course—”

“Of course we will prepare a great compensation once you’ve completed the request.”

“Hoo? Alright. I will listen to it first.”

Zayn said so and the masked man began to speak.

“The truth is, the Elf Kingdom… No, to be precise, the giant tree in the Elf Kingdom is getting weak. Therefore, I would like to ask for Zayn-san’s party assistance in destroying the Elf Kingdom.”

Feeling something touching me, I woke up with a jolt and there, I saw Meria-san sleeping beside me on the bed. 

“Me-Meria-sa─”

I stammered, but before I could finish my sentence, Meria-san had put her index finger to my lips. She then whispered softly into my ear. 

“You’re going to wake Lydia-chan up. Don’t raise your voice, Liam-kun.”

“O-Oh… So-Sorry…”

I glanced at Lydia-san, who was still sleeping in bed next to me. I then apologized. Then, I turned my attention to Meria-san again. 

“Umm… Meria-san, why are you sitting next to me on the bed?”

I asked and Meria-san gave me a seductive smile in response and whispered softly. 

“Liam-kun, do you remember what we talked about yesterday? About the relation between the quality of magic power and stress?”

“Ye-Yes… I remember. More or less.”

“That’s why, Liam-kun… I thought I could help you release your pent-up stress to ensure your magic power remains at its top quality.”

Pent-up stress… Meria-san also mentioned this yesterday, but I didn’t quite understand. What pent-up stress?

“Umm… If we’re talking about magic power, I think I have plenty to spare, but if I release it now… I won’t be able to give my 100% to the big tree, right?”

For now, it should be safe to assume the ‘pent-up stress’ Meria-san kept mentioning was ‘magic power’. However, when I told her that, Meria-san only chuckled a bit before she said.

“I’m not talking about magic power, you know? You see, Liam-kun… What I’m talking about right now is not magic power… It’s something else… Something that Liam-kun needs to release to avoid built-up stress… Liam-kun, how about I give you a hand? I can help you release it and teach you everything you need to know~”
