Chapter 10: Liam Displays Unusual Magical Power

“Ly-Lydia-san?! I just recently got expelled from an A-rank party because I’m not good enough, so my magic power is definitely not ‘hiqh quality’, let alone ‘finest’—”

“Liam-san, just the fact that the magic power comes from you is already enough to have it classified as the finest quality… No. The word ‘finest’ can’t even come close to describing the sheer quality of your magic power!”

“Huh….?”

Even though Lydia-san looked so confident when she said so, but my magic power wasn’t anything special by any means. However, since Lydia-san had gone out of her way to guarantee my quality with her name on the stake, there was no way I could back down here without trying. And so, I turned my attention to the female elf. 

“Umm… Excuse me, would it be alright if I try channeling some of my magic power to the teleportation circle?”

“Yes, that would be fine…”

Seeing my anxiety, the female elf didn’t seem to have high expectations from me. Well, I was fully aware that there was no way I could possibly produce high quality magic power at the level of an elven chieftain or S-rank mage. The only motivation that fueled me to do this was my determination not to give up without trying after Lydia-san had said all that for me. And so, I placed my hand  over the dimly glowing transfer magic circle and ask the female elf again. 

“If… If the quality of my magic power is passable for the teleportation circle, how long do I need to keep channeling my magic power for the teleportation circle to start working again?”

“Well… It depends on the quality of the magic, but I’ve heard that the tribe chief requires about a minute and the S-rank mage needs about 5 to 10 seconds. Those are just rough examples though. Like I said, the time varies depending on the quality of the magic.”

“10 seconds and 1 minute, huh… The time really varies, huh?”

“Yes, but please understand that just being able to infuse the teleportation circle with magic power is already impressive enough. Even if it takes the tribe chief a minute, it doesn’t mean the tribe chief’s magic power is significantly less powerful than the top-tier mage.”

“Yes, of course.”

From that I understood, this teleportation circle was highly dependent on the quality of the magic power. It didn’t really care about the amount of magic or the attribute of the magic. Hence why, we couldn’t possibly try to gauge if someone’s magic power was better or not solely from this teleportation circle alone. That being said, I already grasped the general idea. If nothing happened even after I channeled my magic power into it for 10 minutes, I would give up. At least I had tried.

Now that I had decided what to do, I concentrated my magic power into my hand and began channeling it to the teleportation magic circle. Then suddenly, the teleportation circle lit up and within the next moment, the teleportation circle began emitting its usual glow. 

“…Huh? Huh??? Thi-This magic power…?!”

The elf woman looked visibly shaken. She was shocked to see what happened one second after I started sending my magic power into the teleportation circle. Could it be…?!

“I-I’m sorry! Did I break the teleportation circle or caused it to malfunction or something…?”

I asked, feeling worried I had somehow broken the teleportation circle. But the female elf quickly shook her head and said. 

“N-No! This is a perfectly normal reaction. This means the teleportation circle is working again, but… Just how…?!”

The female elf still looked a bit agitated, but the elf man with glasses said to her with a slightly exasperated tone in his voice. 

“Anyway, does this mean the teleportation circle can be used again?”

“Ye-Yes. It seems to be working now.”

The female elf responded, still looking clearly shaken. The elf man with glasses turned to me and said. 

“Thank you, young man. I will definitely repay this favor someday.”

“Huh? Ye-Yes…”

Although I still couldn’t understand what had just happened, the elf man didn’t seem to care. He casually stepped into the teleportation magic circle and then, he vanished in an instant. It seemed he had been transported to his destination. I could only stand there, watching the man disappear as Lydia-san smiled at me. 

“As expected of Liam-san! The problem was resolved in a second! I really need to follow your example as an honorable knight!”

“Umm… I-I see…?”

I still didn’t quite understand, but it seemed the teleportation circle could be used again. Well, since the problem had been resolved, everything was all good I suppose. 

“We encountered a small problem, but somehow the problem has been resolved now. Alright. Let’s head to Magistus.”

“Yes, Liam-san!”

And so, the two of us stepped into the teleportation magic circle together. 

“Ple-Please wait! Please tell me who are—”

The female elf seemed like she wanted to say something, but my whole vision was already enveloped by the bright light. I couldn’t quite hear what she said either. My vision spun, and at the same time, the female elf’s voice faded away.

“Tha-That gentleman, just who is he exactly…”

The female elf could only stand there dumbfounded. She was unable to believe what she had just witnessed when another female elf came to approach her. 

“Oh? I heard the teleportation magic circle wasn’t working, but it seems to be functioning just fine now?”

“-?! Gr-Great Mage-sama! Tha-Thank you for coming all the way here!”

The female elf quickly bowed to the Great Mage-sama. She then raised her head and explained. 

“The teleportation circle had run out of magic power, but a human male came and infused his magic power into the teleportation circle. The quality of his magic power was absolutely unparalleled, so much so that he was able to make the teleportation circle work again in just one second. To be honest, I was still confused too. Everything happened so quickly.”

“Unparalleled magic power… Say, is that human boy around this tall?”

The Great Mage said while placing a hand near her chest. 

“Yes, that’s right.”

“Oooh… My eyes weren’t wrong after all…. Fufu~ I’m getting even more interested in him now…”

The Great Mage murmured to herself. She then asked the female elf where the boy, Liam, was heading to. After she knew Liam was heading to Magistus, the Great Mage then stepped into the teleportation circle to follow Liam.
