Chapter 010: Day 3 Of Our Stay
It is now the third day of our stay. We started rehabilitation from the second day, and they have finally reached the point where they can hold objects.
However, walking is still difficult. Especially Urka-san, since she had completely lost both legs — she has only just become able to stand.
During walking practice, I hold both of their hands to support them, but because of our height difference, I worry that I might actually be making it harder for them.
On a positive note, they can all speak now. I’m so glad.
However, everyone speaks a different language, so I have to act as interpreter.
The Kalos Empire uses the Kalos language, the Philos Union uses the common Thebe language, and the Anis Holy Kingdom uses Ancient Sanova language — the same language as their scriptures — as their official language.
Ah, I’m fine with all of them. Since I was born into a merchant family, I was strictly taught that I needed to learn the languages of various countries because we do business across the continent. Eh? Most people don’t do that? I see.
Still, I want us to have a common language, so even though it will be difficult, I plan to have them learn the Rouge language of the Grand Duchy. For now, I have no choice but to keep translating.
Elena-san seems to somewhat understand what the other two are saying, probably because Ancient Sanova is a root language for both Kalos and Thebe. So when Elena-san speaks to the other two, I translate for them.
However, Elena-san looks at me with incredibly devoted eyes. I think “adoration” is the right word. Because of this, she calls me “Goshujin-sama” (Master). I told her she could just call me “Al” since I never intended to treat them as slaves, but she stubbornly refused.
Urka-san also calls me “Aruji-sama” (Master). Rosaria-san calls me “Al,” but every time she does, Elena-san glares sharply at her. It’s fine, really. I don’t mind at all.
By the way, we’re starting to run low on ingredients. I should go shopping. Staying cooped up in the room all the time might look suspicious anyway. Going outside would be better.
“Um, I’m going out to buy some things.”
“Yeah! Take care!”
“Have a safe trip.”
“Nn, we’ll wait.”
It makes me happy when they reply like this. In my previous party, they used to answer in the beginning, but lately no one would respond at all.
“Ah, right. Please promise me — even if someone sees you, the recognition distortion magic will handle it, but if anyone other than me touches you, the spell will break. So please be careful.”
After warning them, I left the room.
At the hotel reception, I told them that three acquaintances of mine were staying in my room and asked them to let us rest undisturbed.
This should prevent anyone from entering, but just to be safe, I also cast recognition distortion magic. Better safe than sorry.
“What should I buy… Bread, fish, and…”
Over these three days, the Onee-sans have returned to eating normal meals.
They seemed to enjoy the local dishes of this country that I made for them.
However, they still seem to have some resistance to meat. They probably went through a lot before coming here. Fish it is for a while longer.
“Oh, I should get canes too. I think there were some that automatically adjust in length.”
While shopping, I noticed my family’s crest everywhere.
No offense to my parents, but why is it on so many things? I’ll ask at one of the shops next time what the benefit is.
After finishing shopping and on my way back to the hotel, I spotted a weapon shop.
The Onee-sans will eventually need something to protect themselves with. It might be a while yet, but I’ll keep it in mind.
“Oh, young master.”
It was the slave merchant shopkeeper.
“Hello. Thank you again for your help last time.”
“No problem. So, how are the ladies doing?”
“They’re doing well.”
“Really? Well, if you say so, young master.”
I couldn’t tell him their bodies were completely healed, so I kept it vague, but I made sure to say I was glad I bought them.
“By the way, young master, did you hear?”
The shopkeeper spoke as if he had just remembered something.
“Your old party apparently took on a pretty tough dungeon.”
“Eh!? Is that true!?”
Wait, did I even tell this man which party I was in?
“Don’t underestimate a merchant’s information network. Especially since if anything happens to the young master of the Belladonna family, your mother would raise hell. We keep a close eye on you.”
…That’s honestly a bit scary.
Well, I’ll just interpret it as being watched over. Yeah.
“So, what dungeon is it?”
“The Ryuto Labyrinth.”
“The most difficult one in the Grand Duchy?”
“Yeah, they’re idiots.”
The Ryuto Labyrinth is located on the opposite side from the direction I was originally traveling. Although it’s relatively close to Versha, the strength of the monsters and the complexity of the traps mean it has only been cleared up to the third floor so far.
I wonder if they’ll be okay. Trap detection and disarming were always my job. Who’s replacing me? They wouldn’t just charge in without care… right? They are S-rank, after all.
I’m worried about Aira and the others, but for now I can only believe in them.
I thanked the shopkeeper and hurried back to the hotel.
When I reached the lobby, the receptionist called out to me.
“Alphonse-sama.”
By the way, that older male employee isn’t here anymore. I heard he took a long leave. I told them not to fire him, but I wonder if he’s alright.
“What is it?”
“Well… there’s a message from your mother…”
……Oh no!! What should I do? Yesterday was the day for my regular contact, but I completely forgot.
My mother was strongly opposed to me becoming an adventurer at age 8. After much persuasion, she finally agreed on the condition that I contact her once a week.
I quickly entered the hotel’s communication magic room (think of it like a public telephone booth) and activated the spell.
