Chapter 10: Daylight Robbery
“W-what?”
It was the first thing that came out of my mouth. Just why had Guillermo appeared in front of me?
“You seem to be moving in and out of the exchange quite often these days, eh?” Guillermo said with a smirk.
It would have looked very suspicious if I were to repeatedly cash in the first clear reward <Commencement Sword>, but that was why I didn’t go to the same one more than once.
“Hey, show me what you’ve been trying to cash in.”
He said while approaching me.
I had to run!
I turned around, but…
“There’s no point in trying to run, Henry.”
Behind me were several adventurers from Guillermo’s party. They had surrounded me without me having noticed.
“Now just how did someone like you get their hands on a <Commencement Sword>?”
Guillermo asked while eyeing the sword. He had gotten even closer than before.
“I got it after clearing Fassil Dungeon…”
“HA, did you guys hear that? Our boy Henry cleared a dungeon!”
Guillermo shouted to his cronies, prompting laughter from the group.
“How are you going to clear a dungeon if you can’t even kill any of the weakest monsters?”
“There’s no way anybody would want to party with weak ol’ Henry, and there’s no way you could clear it solo!”
“Afterall, it’s Henry, the level 1 Henry!”
“If you’re going to come up with a lie, at least come up with a better one!”
The people around me mocked me before Guillermo placed his hand on my shoulder.
“You stole that from someone, didn’t you?”
“N-no…”
I tried to defend myself, but my lips quivered and I couldn’t speak properly.
“Well, it doesn’t matter anyways. I’ll take good care of this sword for you.”
Guillermo wrenched the sword from my hands.
“G-give it back!”
The moment those words left my mouth, I received a powerful blow to the face.
“For what reason would you talk back to me like that?”
He said, eliciting more laughter from his cronies.
“Look Henry, you owe us a debt of gratitude, right? If you ever steal anything again, you can just give it to me to take care of.”
He said, staring me straight in the eye. I could only silently nod my head.
“Good good, it’s great that you’re so understanding.”
He took my nod as tacit approval leading the edges of his lips to curl into a smile. Guillermo then signaled to his goons and left.
The <Commencement Sword> that I had exerted so much effort to acquire had been stolen from me.
“Ugh…”
All alone, I struggled to hold back tears on the verge of bursting out. This was a face I could never show my sister.
“I have to get stronger…”
It wasn’t enough to just earn money. I had to become a strong adventurer in my own right. This was a promise I made to myself.
