The day I moved on from my crush — who worked as a rental girlfriend — I ended up with a yandere - Chapter 5- Isolated
For a few moments, I couldn’t believe what I just heard.
Just then, the man added, “I don’t know how I should have approached you…but this is all I want.”
He suddenly bowed his head, snapping me out of my daze before I heard him saying, “Please don’t stop coming over, Kazuki-kun…you are the only one who made her feel alive. But now that you are gone, I feel I have lost my daughter again.”
I hurriedly told the man, “Tomoya-san, please raise your head. You are making me feel ashamed.”
He slowly raised his head and looked at me.
Gone was the confident man who was smiling warmly at me until now.
In his eyes, all I could see was helplessness and desperation.
I first urged him to take the cheque back since I didn’t want Mom to see it and misunderstand something here.
The man listened to me, fortunately, before I sighed and asked him, “Can you tell me what exactly happened?”
He exhaled a sigh and told me, “You know what happened to Tsumiki. She was betrayed by her best friend a few years back, and after that, she shut herself from the world, completely isolating herself.”
I nodded at that. I knew that.
I worked for Ichiharas for four weeks, and during that time I got close to Tsumiki-san.
She told me her story about how she and her best friend were working on a song for a long time, and then her friend betrayed her and took all the credit.
It was the betrayal that hurt her the most.
She never filed a complaint; rather, she completely isolated herself from the world.
She used to live alone in that house mostly. And my services were booked by her mother, not by Tsumiki-san herself.
“So what happened? Is Tsumiki-san not doing well?”
I got worried. I have seen her in ‘that’ phase where she used to remain confined in her room for days and barely eat anything.
When I was about to stop working, I told Tsumiki-san about it.
I still remember how barely she held her tears when she waved at me.
It pained me too but I had to choose between my job and my career. Naturally, I chose the safer option.
However, as far as I remember, those few weeks we spent together, Tsumiki-san had started to change. She also started to go out once in a while.
Then…what changed?
Tomoya-san lowered his eyes and said, “She is in a much worse state than she was upon getting betrayed. For the past four weeks, she hadn’t come out of her room. She barely eats and when we tried to force ourselves in, she threatened us that she would do something to herself.”
I froze. My eyes widen a little.
Tsumiki-san did what again?!
Tomoya-san’s shoulders sank as he added, “I regretted my decision to expand my business to another country for the first time. Because of my work, I barely spent any time with my family and now I feel my daughter has drifted so far that…that…”
He trailed off, his voice shaky.
I leaned forward in my seat, wanting to comfort the man who was clearly feeling helpless right now.
That shows how much he cares about his family.
After a brief pause, I asked him, “What can I do for you, Tomoya-san?”
The man took a deep breath before he looked up, his glassy eyes meeting mine and his words reached me,
“Can you please reach out to her? I feel you are the only person who can bring her out of that darkness, just like the last time. I will pay you any sum but just…bring my daughter back to me. I beg you.”
My heart turned heavy hearing that.
Without a moment of delay, I got up from my seat and told him, “I will do what I can. And you don’t have to pay me for that.”
There must be a trigger that pulled her back into that darkness.
Was it that her traitorous former friend contacted her out of the blue? Or did someone hurt her in another way?
I needed to find it out somehow.

At that time, I had no idea that the reason behind her depression was none other than….
