Chapter 66: A Festival, In a Way
The school ground was buzzing with excitement.
“Go, go, go, go!”
“Get past them!”
While I don’t find it annoying, I personally think it’s not bad to have this kind of high-spirited atmosphere every once in a while.
Today is the sports festival, and since morning, students have been running around the field as if they’re trying to push each other out of the way.
Of course, it’s not just relay races. There are also events like a scavenger hunt and a bread-eating contest, where one’s running ability alone won’t suffice. Not just the students, even the parents seem to be getting into it.
(A sports festival, huh… It feels like it’s been a really long time.)
Participating in a high school sports festival really has been a long time coming.
In the first place, normally one wouldn’t find this unusual. It’s a feeling I can only experience because I’ve reincarnated, like me.
As it turns out, Arashi didn’t participate in last year’s sports festival at all, and even then, was treated as if he didn’t exist by not just classmates but teachers as well.
(That said, I guess there weren’t any issues. His family didn’t come to watch, and even if Arashi was absent, no one seemed concerned.)
Truly a man expelled from the world… Sounds cool when you put it that way, but it also makes me wonder how the school could have neglected him so much.
Well, it’s all water under the bridge now.
For me now, it’s a past that doesn’t matter anymore. That’s why I’ll enjoy this year’s sports festival along with the scene in front of me.
“Ohh.”
My gaze was caught by the sight of upperclassmen girls running on the ground.
To be honest, it’s refreshing to watch people other than my classmates, whom I neither interact with much nor often see. Moreover, seeing them in their gym clothes makes it even more so.
(As expected of a game world… While Shirayuki is an exceptional beauty, generally, the others also have a high level of attractiveness.)
I thought so quite sincerely.
I mean, according to my standards, there are many good-looking people, but for others, they might just look like average folks. I wonder what’s the deal with that perception?
Amidst teammates wearing the same colors, whether they are seniors or juniors, I continue to focus on this rare sight… and then, I feel a tap on my back.
“…”
Someone kept prodding my back repeatedly.
I had a feeling that the people who were supposed to be nearby had distanced themselves a bit, but I slowly turned around to look.
As expected, there stood Shirayuki.
Wearing a captivating smile, she said,
“It seemed like you were intensely watching something while I was away in the restroom.”
“Ah—”
“It’s alright, you know? It’s a rare scene that you don’t usually get to see, and most importantly, nothing changes the fact that I am your number one.”
I nodded firmly in agreement.
Shirayuki, now standing beside me, began to gaze at the running upperclassmen on the field as well. I sneakily glanced at her.
To me, Shirayuki in gym clothes is nothing unusual.
I’ve often seen her in more sensual outfits or even in sportswear. But it seems that others don’t feel the same way.
“Sexy…”
“Too big…”
“I want to get it on with Shirayuki!”
This is purely my imagination, but it looked like Shirayuki was being viewed with such lustful gazes from around us.
Certainly, Shirayuki is a girl overflowing with countless charms.
Cute, beautiful, sexy… I can’t deny any of these, and I’d nod in agreement if any were said.
(But having her looked at so openly like this is a bit much.)
That part didn’t sit well with me.
We were under a tent, but it was obvious to anyone looking that both Shirayuki and I were fighting the summer heat, sweating a little.
I put my arm around Shirayuki’s shoulder. I didn’t pull her close, but I did tap her shoulder a couple of times.
“Fufu♪”
Shirayuki giggled happily and resumed cheering for the upperclassmen.
Once the event happening in front of us concluded, signaling a short break, we followed the other students out of the tent… and then deviated from the flow to move behind the gymnasium.
We had a 15-minute break, so there was plenty of time to spare.
“Shirayuki.”
“Mm…”
In a world far removed from the noise and commotion, I pulled Shirayuki close to me.
Perhaps I didn’t find it amusing that other guys were ogling her, so I wanted to be alone with her like this.
It’s hot… hot but cooler than expected, thanks to the shade and breeze.
“Please don’t smell my sweat too much, okay?”
“Don’t worry, you smell fine. If anything, I should be the one concerned.”
“I don’t mind at all. I actually like your scent quite a lot.♪”
To make sure we’d be okay no matter who might come, I took Shirayuki to hide in the shade of a tree.
By now, if someone found us, it would be obvious what we were up to; but surely, no one would come to this secluded area during the school sports festival.
I exchanged a kiss with Shirayuki as she leaned her back against me and turned only her face towards mine. Before I knew it, my hands found her chest, enjoying its softness through her gym clothes.
“It’s rare, isn’t it? To be like this outside with Touma-kun.”
“Well, yeah, a little. But let’s hold off on going any further.”
“That’s inconvenient for both of us, but can’t be helped, I suppose.”
Once Shirayuki and I get into it, stopping is not easy. She was about to kneel in front of me, when we heard male voices behind us.
“What’s next?”
“I think it’s the scavenger hunt?”
“Ugh, sounds annoying.”
We couldn’t see their faces since we were hiding, but it seemed like the three guys had come to cool off in the shade. Fortunately, it didn’t look like they would come any closer to where we were.
Relieved, Shirayuki began to reach for my pants.
“Um…”
“Stopping halfway through something we’ve started is not okay, you know?”
“Yeah.”
And so, we emerged from the shade of the tree with about two minutes left before the break ended.
She was mumbling something, or maybe chewing? Though I tried to act clueless, there was certainly an adrenaline rush.
Being a student and sneaking off for a risqué rendezvous with my girlfriend in the middle of a sports festival… I never thought I’d experience something like that in real life, and it was somewhat exhilarating.
“Um… sorry, Shirayuki. Let’s head home right after this is over.”
“Ah… yes, that makes sense. But it does feel a bit awkward now, doesn’t it?”
I felt guilty saying that to her, considering how soaked we were.
The sports festival events continued, and by lunchtime, Shirayuki and I met up with Hisui to have our packed lunches.
“I’m really glad I made it in time.”
“I wanted to be here from the start, but some things can’t be helped.”
Hisui had been busy in the morning but had finally made it. She said she’d stay until the end, a statement that seemed to make Shirayuki happier than it made me.
“I do smell something suspicious, but… fufu, you two are young, after all.”
“Please don’t deduce anything from the smell.”
“Obvious enough. Did you think you wouldn’t get found out, Shirayuki?”
“… I didn’t think so.”
…Is she talking about what happened earlier?
After that, we had lunch with Hisui, and as expected, these two attract a lot of attention when they’re together. Not just students but parents were staring as well, likely because of their good looks.
(Ah, someone’s getting scolded.)
Probably a husband getting an earful from what appeared to be his wife.
Hisui must have caught his attention; it can’t be helped, really. Even at a children’s sports festival, the presence of a bombshell like Hisui would be hard to ignore.
Ah, right. Yousuke had returned a few days ago.
Yet, he hadn’t given Shirayuki or me any notice, treating us as if we didn’t exist. That much seemed certain.
