Chapter 117: A Matter Concerning the Goddess
“Good evening, Kanata.”
“Isla?”
It happened in the dead of night—though the day had already turned anew, it was the day they were to depart for the Empire. The reunion was rather abrupt.
The Goddess he had not expected to see for a while—the very person responsible for reincarnating Kanata into this world—floated in mid-air as she began to speak.
“The big day is tomorrow… Actually, it’s already today. I’m looking forward to the Thanksgiving event in the Empire held by Haishin.”
“Will you be coming to watch?”
“No, I’ll just peek from the heavens. I still can’t visit here too often. I’m not that free.”
“Hmm.”
Continuing to float, Isla finally straightened her posture and gently landed on the floor.
Though her appearance was worthy of the title ‘Goddess,’ her casual Haishin-sama T-shirt somewhat tarnished her allure. Kanata, however, had already grown used to it. He then inquired about the reason for her visit.
“So, you didn’t come all this way just to encourage me, did you?”
“That’s correct. Kanata, would you like to see a different future for yourself?”
“A different future?”
“Yes—what would have happened if you never became a streamer? Do you want to see that timeline?”
“Is that even possible?”
Isla nodded.
It seemed she had sensed what Kanata had been feeling during his streams—why he had chosen a career in streaming over becoming a hero or adventurer upon reincarnating into another world.
“It’s not an all-powerful magic, but I can show you a hypothetical future to an extent. Because, after all, I am a goddess.”
“Wow, that’s incredible, Goddess.”
“It’s Goddess-sama to you.”
“Amazing, Goddess-sama.”
“It’s amazing, you know?”
Puffing out her ample chest and placing her hands on her hips, Isla exuded confidence.
By now, Kanata had grown accustomed to such displays, sparing them no more than a two-second glance. He found the prospect of seeing a different timeline intriguing. However, the importance of sleep weighed on his mind, a concern that Isla seemed to have already anticipated.
“As for sleep, no worries at all! I’ll only send your consciousness, so it’ll be like you’re dreaming.”
“That’s amazing, as expected of a Goddess’s magic.”
“It’s only natural. I am Goddess-sama, after all!”
Impressed, Kanata clapped his hands lightly.
“Let’s get to it,” Isla immediately activated her magic, and as Kanata lay on the bed, it felt as if he were being pulled toward her.
“… Huh?”
Before he knew it, he saw his body floating, separate from the part of him that continued to sleep. Astonished by the phenomenon, which seemed akin to an out-of-body experience, Kanata couldn’t help but let out a soft exclamation.
“Let’s get going, then.”
“Alright!”
Trusting in Isla’s words for the time being, Kanata was transported by the Goddess’s supernatural powers to witness a possible alternate future.

“… This place!”
The place he found himself in was nothing new for Kanata.
It was the royal capital of the alternate world, Ataraxia—basically, the same setting where he always resided.
“Nothing has changed in terms of the buildings. This is simply a world where the streaming culture doesn’t exist, and you never became a streamer.”
“… I see.”
Then what was he doing in a world where he wasn’t a streamer? He found out soon enough.
Under the strong sunlight, a crowd had gathered at the entrance of the Adventurer’s Guild—and there was Kanata, making his appearance.
“Ah, it’s Kanata-san!”
“The strongest adventurer!?”
“It’s rare to see him here. He’s usually out on quests!”
Kanata, with a sword strapped to his back, waved at the various voices calling out to him.
From what Isla further explained, Kanata had accomplished numerous feats as an adventurer and was well-known among royalty and nobility.
“Is he a solo adventurer?”
“Seems like it. But it looks like he does collaborate with other adventurers too. He seems to have acquaintances in other towns as well.”
“Heh.”
It felt strange, like looking at himself yet not being himself.
“Sorry, I’m in a hurry! Make way, please!”
That voice was also Kanata’s. Adventurer Kanata ran off, and the crowd in front of the guild gradually dispersed.
A lone adventurer thought to be the strongest was now heading to the church, so they decided to follow.
“Kanata-sama!”
“Alphana!”
The one waiting at the church was Alphana.
Kanata rushed over to her, and a lively conversation ensued. Even in a timeline where he wasn’t a streamer, Kanata still met Alphana.
“It seems you’ve only met Alphana here. You’ve crossed paths with Maria, but that’s about it. No other significant encounters.”
“… I see.”
While it was true that standing out as an adventurer could lead to meetings, it also set limits on the scope of those interactions.
Though Kanata felt a touch of happiness at meeting Alphana even in this alternate world, a slight sense of incompleteness lingered—perhaps because the remnants of his life as a streamer were missing here.
“… Hey, Isla.”
“What?”
“I think I want to stay as a streamer after all. This world might be another possibility for me, but I can’t forget the excitement and buzz of my original world.”
“… Fufu, I thought you’d say that.”
After spending some time observing the world where he thrived as an adventurer, Kanata eventually decided to return to his original world.
“Phew.”
While the experience was invaluable, he felt a renewed sense of pride in his success as a streamer and wanted to commend himself for making that choice.
As he was contemplating this, Isla left him with some parting words.
“Oh, about your ASMR… Toning it down was the right choice. I’ve got a copy of your full-power ASMR and played it for some of my quirky friends.”
“What have you done?”
“They listened all the way to the end. Now, those two—Hera and Izanami—are completely hooked.”
[EDN: Hera: Greek goddess of marriage, women and family. Izanami: Japanese deity of creation and death.]
“… I think I’ve heard those names before?”
“Both have husbands, and their love is incredibly profound… Yet, it appears your voice has them soaking their pillows in more than one way.”
“…”
Kanata decided not to inquire too deeply into what had happened in the realm of the gods.
With that said, it was finally time to head for the Empire!
