Chapter 90: I Let My True Feelings Slip Out
After we finished shopping safely and returned to school, a group of boys and girls, including Nagatsuki, were beckoning Rin over.
They were all smiling brightly, but it wasn’t just me who sensed something ominous in the air.
Rin gave a wry smile and followed them—
“—Well, I do think having costumes for customer service is a good idea, but there should be a limit, you know? …I’m still a boy, after all.”
Rin came back with a completely resigned look on his face, wearing a maid outfit, which was originally meant for girls.
Nagatsuki had said she’d prepare a different outfit since there was no way to fix the other one, but in the end, this is what it came to.
Still, for something thrown together at the last minute, the crossdressing really suited him.
…Actually, it suited him too well.
Rin’s hair was smooth and short, and his arms, extending from the sleeves, had lost their summer tan and were now pale enough to rival a girl’s.
His slender legs, with muscle but still thin, were covered with sheer black tights—perhaps to hide his masculine bone structure.
His sloped shoulders helped make it all look more natural.
And… unless I was imagining it, he was also lightly wearing makeup?
It was a natural look, but it really lessened any trace of masculinity.
In short, at a glance, Rin no longer looked like a boy—but like a girl… no, a beautiful maid.
Nagatsuki and the others who dressed him up looked quite satisfied.
Maybe it was just me, but even his skin looked healthier and more radiant.
Other classmates in the room also reacted enthusiastically to Rin’s maid outfit.
I could hear them saying things like, “It suits you,” “So cute,” and “You’re getting a great deal with the equipment still attached.” That last one sounded shady, but they all seemed positive overall.
“Ugh… why is it only me going through this?”
Rin muttered while holding down the hem of his skirt, clearly uncomfortable.
This maid outfit was a cosplay-style mini skirt, so moving carelessly might cause his underwear to be seen.
Rin probably wanted to avoid that at all costs.
Even if the underwear he was wearing was for boys.
“I’m sorry, Shinonome-san. I know I said I could fix the other one, but with that much extra room, it’d just look sloppy. So I thought this one might suit you better… but I guess not?”
Nagatsuki apologized while checking how the maid outfit fit Rin.
As far as a butler image goes, wearing it neatly is important.
If it’s all loose and baggy, it just looks like a joke.
Still, choosing a maid outfit instead of a better-fitting butler one… probably shows a bit of personal taste.
“Regardless of whether it suits me or not, the butler outfit was definitely too baggy. Compared to that, this fits perfectly… which is frustrating, but I’ll admit it. And customer service does need proper costumes—”
He stopped there and let out a big sigh.
He looked completely exasperated—or maybe just resigned.
“…Only this once, okay?”
“Yes! …I mean, thank you so much, Shinonome-kun!”
“Haah… just understand that I’m not doing this because I like it, okay? That goes for everyone else too.”
Rin shot a sharp look and stern words toward the classmates.
Just watching might be fine, but some people had already started secretly taking photos, so he had a point.
But still… I don’t think I can forgive the one who whispered, “Sullen-eyed crossdressing boys in maid outfits are the best…!” under their breath.
Seriously, what do you have to say about that, class rep?
Well, at the very least, I have to be on Rin’s side.
“Rin.”
“Hakuto-kun… looks like I’m going to be a maid, not a butler.”
I was trying to comfort him, but when I saw that fleeting smile full of resignation, I couldn’t say another word.
He seemed to have lost even the will to escape reality.
“…If you really hate it, you can turn down the customer service role, you know?”
“I thought about that too, but I probably wouldn’t be much help working in the back. Also, if I can pull this off and things go smoothly, then maybe it’s fine. Nagatsuki-san must be tired too from preparing everything.”
I understood how he didn’t want to cause trouble by being selfish.
With my face, I thought I shouldn’t be in the front and volunteered for a behind-the-scenes role, but Nagatsuki convinced me to work reception.
Rin’s crossdressing situation is a whole different issue, but if he’s… okay with it, then I guess it’s fine.
“Also, they did my makeup and styled my hair to make the maid outfit suit me… so I figured I’d try just a little harder.”
When Rin smiled with an “ehe,” my chest tightened painfully.
I couldn’t help but suspect that Nagatsuki and the others just wanted to indulge their own fetishes by turning Rin into a maid.
But if I told Rin that, it would only make his resolve meaningless.
…I’ll have to confront them later, without Rin knowing.
“…If that’s how you feel, I won’t stop you. But if it really gets too hard, talk to me.”
“Okay. Still, it’s been a while since I crossdressed. The last time was during our junior high cultural festival… I think everyone said it suited me then too. Even though I’m really a boy. What do you think, Hakuto-kun?”
“Can I be honest?”
“Of course.”
“If I didn’t know you, I’d just assume you were a girl. That’s how good it looks.”
“I see… I see…”
Ah, crap.
I let my true feelings slip out.
