The Beautiful Girl Who Asked Me to Pretend to Be Her Boyfriend Didn’t Want to Break up With Me for Some Reason - Chapter 89
Chapter 89: Shopping
The last day before the school festival.
Club activities were canceled, and preparations were reaching their final stage.
Today was a preparation day with no classes from the morning, so the entire day until after school was available for festival prep.
Even from other classrooms, we could hear lively voices. Our class was also moving around noisily.
“Signboard’s ready!”
“Let me check… yeah, this looks fine. Thank you.”
“I was surprised when you asked me to make it look good, though.”
“Sorry for leaving it to you. Let’s put it up in front of the classroom right away.”
The break from club activities meant a big increase in manpower.
The half-finished signboard was completed nicely by an art club member who joined in.
Nagatsuki was the mediator for all that.
She was running around everywhere and looked really busy, but I couldn’t take her place. All I could do was watch or help when asked.
“Once the classroom is decorated, it really starts to feel like a festival.”
“Right? It’s finally starting to feel like it’s happening.”
“I don’t remember much, but was it like this last year too?”
“…Maybe?”
“Why are you both like that? It’s a fun festival, so smile, smile!”
During a break in the work, we looked around at the decorated classroom and had our usual chat with the four of us.
Rin, who had joined us a few days ago, was surprised at how much progress we had made.
We had been sharing our progress through a messaging app.
Some of the materials were also placed in a corner of the classroom, so he could’ve seen them if he wanted, but seeing them actually set up must feel different.
“Kuwozome-kun. Also, Shirafuji-san and Hanaba-san… if you’re free, can I ask something from Shinonome-kun too?”
“Nagatsuki? Something up?”
“I have a favor to ask all of you. I need someone to go pick up the cakes we’re serving to customers. I’m kind of stuck here.”
“If that’s the case, leave it to us. I didn’t have much to do here anyway.”
My work was pretty much done already.
Rather than just sitting around in the classroom doing nothing, it was better to handle the job we were given.
Once the three of them nodded that they were fine with it, Nagatsuki handed us two cooler boxes for keeping the cakes cold.
“They’re frozen cakes, not fresh ones, for sanitary reasons. It would help if you put them in these to carry them. There’s ice packs inside, so they shouldn’t melt on the way. Here’s the order slip. Just show this and they’ll hand it over.”
“Got it. But are you sure we’re the right ones for this?”
“You guys won’t use this as an excuse to slack off, right? I wouldn’t mind a little detour if it’s not too long.”
“Are you sure that’s okay, class rep…?”
“It’s fine, it’s fine. You’ve got to balance the hard work and the breaks. Taking a breather is important too.”
Thinking she had a point, we left the preparations to our classmates and went to pick up the cakes.
“Being outside of school during the day feels weird, doesn’t it? Like we’re delinquents or something.”
“Even if it’s for shopping, I get the feeling.”
“Either way, we need to make sure we do our job right. In a way, it’s the most important task.”
“Yeah. If we somehow ruined all the cakes…”
“Don’t say scary stuff. But yeah, better safe than sorry.”
With the school festival right around the corner, we might’ve gotten a bit carried away without realizing it.
If we got into an accident now, everything would be ruined.
“By the way, did everyone get their costume yet?”
Rin suddenly remembered and asked, and the three of us nodded.
Shirafuji, Hanaba, and I had already received our adjusted butler and maid outfits from Nagatsuki.
Even though I was just on reception, I figured there was no point in dressing up. But when they said reception was also part of customer service, I couldn’t argue.
“You didn’t get yours, Rin?”
“I did, since I’m doing customer service too. I tried it on, but… I guess the size was a little off.”
“It happens. Even if they’re the same size, small differences make a big difference.”
“It sucks, right? Like when you buy clothes thinking they’ll fit but they’re a bit tight.”
“I’m sure Nagatsuki will fix it properly.”
“Yeah, I believe that too. But, she also said something like this: ‘If I can’t fix it, you might have to wear a different outfit instead.'”
“…Huh?”
That’s odd. Things are starting to sound suspicious.
Is it even possible that someone as skilled as Nagatsuki can’t fix it?
I get that there’s a limit to what can be done if it’s adjusting rather than remaking.
But if it was that bad, wasn’t the size just wrong in the first place?
Thinking that, I looked at Rin.
He has a small and slender build for a guy.
The costume size was probably the smallest one available.
And if even that was too loose, then…
And then.
When it comes to costumes that can be quickly prepared—
“I have a really bad feeling about this. The way she said it, it’s like the other costume is already good to go. And there’s only one other costume that’s ready right now, isn’t there?”
“…Ah, yeah. Well, I won’t say what it is, but if you want to talk, I’ll listen.”
“Thanks, Hakuto-kun. I’ll do my best.”
His tone was completely dry, but I didn’t point it out.
Also, Shirafuji and Hanaba seemed to realize what the “other costume” was too, and just by looking at their eyes, I could tell they were thinking, It’ll totally suit him.
…Well, yeah, I’m not gonna deny I feel the same way.
