- Chapter 25: In This World, I Might Be Able to Become an Otaku Club Princess (Male Version) ①
“Alright, then…”
I checked the clock. It was still only 9 PM. It was still too early to go to bed. Hmm, with no more adult content available, what could I do to kill time…
“Yeah, I’ll just play a game.”
Oh right, I’d been playing FPS games every day. So, I decided to try playing an online game for the first time since coming to this world. The FPS I usually played was a 3-person team battle royale game. I typically played this with my online friends.
“Looks like no one’s online today… Oh well, I guess it can’t be helped.”
I started up my computer and opened my chat and voice call app (commonly known as Discord). There were the usual online friends I played FPS games with listed there, but today, they were all offline. So, I decided to just play solo with randoms for now.
“…Oh, the matching is pretty quick.”
After a few minutes, I was matched with random teammates. As expected, it was a popular game. So, I greeted my random teammates right away.
“Nice to meet you!”
“…Eh, ah, n-nice to meet you too.”
When I greeted them, one of my teammates responded. Based on the voice, it sounded like a young female player. Wait, a female player? That was rare. The male-to-female ratio for this game was about 9:1, with mostly male players. All my friends on Discord were male too. So, I was a little excited at the thought of playing with a female player.
The other teammate seemed to have their mic completely muted. So, I decided to communicate with this female player through voice chat and work together.
………………
…………
……
“…Ah! Sorry, I’m down…”
“No, no, no worries! I’m the one who was down first, sorry about that!”
We were able to work together well and managed to survive to the final two teams, but the enemy team’s coordination was too good, and our team was wiped out in no time, resulting in a loss.
“Ah, that was so frustrating! Hey, would you like to play another round?”
“Eh!? Is that okay? Yes! I’d love to play with you again!”
“Awesome! Thanks! I’ll send an invite and friend request!”
“Okay, I got it!”
The teammate who had their mic muted immediately left the match, but the female teammate who had been chatting with me was excited to play again, so I sent her a team invite.
――Shironeko-san joined Aoi-san’s invite!
“I’m in! Nice to meet you again! It’s Shironeko!”
“Nice to meet you too! I’m Aoi!”
And so, I became friends with Shironeko. It took a while for the next match to be set up, so we spent some time chatting casually while waiting.
“By the way, Aoi-san, you’re really good at this game! I really respect your skills!”
“No, no, I’m far from it! But Shironeko-san, you’re amazing too! Your character control was really impressive earlier!”
“Ah, hearing you say that makes me really happy! But seriously, it’s pretty rare to see a guy who plays this game so much, right? Do you usually play with a fixed group?”
“Ah, yeah, I usually play with a fixed group… wait, huh?”
I felt something strange in her wording…
――”But seriously, it’s pretty rare to see a guy who plays this game so much, right?”
(…Wait!? Does this world have a reverse gender distribution in gamers too!?)
“…Uh, did something happen?”
“Eh? Oh, no, sorry. I just wanted to ask you something. Is that okay?”
“Yeah, it’s fine. What’s up?”
“Thanks! Uh, this might sound a little weird, but… is it common for women to play this game a lot?”
“Eh? Well, yeah… I think most of the players are women, actually.”
“Oh, I see. Got it, got it!”
“Huh? Is that all you wanted to ask?”
“Ah, yeah, that’s it! Sorry for asking something strange.”
“Oh, no, it’s totally fine! If you want to ask anything else, feel free to ask!”
“Okay, thanks!”
And so, I learned something new about this world. That meant, in this world, I could make friends with lots of female gamers, right?? That sounded like great news!
