Chapter 5: First Day to School with Her
I ran, panting heavily, and somehow reached the alley in front of Kirino’s house.
“If I turn here, I’ll reach Kirino’s house,” I said to myself.
I felt tired and nervous as I turned the corner.
“Hey, Kiyoto-kun! Over here, over here!” Kirino called out.
I immediately saw Kirino waving energetically.
Seeing such a stylish beauty stretch and wave made me feel rewarded for coming to school today.
“Sorry, Kirino-san. Did I keep you waiting?” I asked.
“Not at all. I just came out of the house myself,” she replied.
Her words meant I made her worry about me.
Damn, maybe waking up to a yandere voice would speed up my breakfast.
“Well then, shall we go?” Kirino said.
She extended her hand toward me.
Does this mean we’ll walk to school holding hands!?
I thought this kind of situation only happened in romance novels or rom-com manga.
There are a few couples at Joto Nishi, but I never saw anyone holding hands while walking to school.
I took her hand without hesitation.
“Huh? Kiyoto-kun, is your hand okay?” she asked.
“What?” I replied.
I looked at my hand.
I noticed a slight bruise on my palm.
It probably happened when I tripped leaving the house and put my hand on the ground to catch myself.
“Oh, don’t worry about it. It’s just a scratch,” I said.
“You shouldn’t ignore injuries like that!” Kirino scolded.
She quickly took a bandage from the small pocket of her backpack and put it on my palm.
“Th-thanks…” I stammered.
“No problem. It’s normal to take care of your boyfriend’s injuries,” she said.
…I might die from how cute that was.
“Since your bandaged hand might hurt, let’s use the other one,” she suggested.
Kirino grabbed my right hand.
As expected from the track team, her grip was strong.
It hurt a little.
From there, we walked to school holding hands.
Well, Kirino walked so fast it wasn’t exactly side by side.
“Hey, what’s your hobby, Kiyoto-kun?” she asked.
Even at that pace, Kirino started a conversation without seeming forced.
“Reading books, I guess,” I answered.
That’s a lie.
I spend most weekends playing galge.
“Oh, really? What kind of books do you read?” she asked.
Oh no. What should I say?
Honestly, I barely read pure literature.
I mostly read light novels and manga, especially harem ones.
“Maybe mystery books,” I said.
It’s a random guess, but most pure literature is mystery, right?
“You like mysteries, Kiyoto-kun? That’s kind of unexpected…” she said.
Now I’m curious what kind of books she thought I read.
“I like manga, especially death game ones,” she shared.
“Death games?” I asked.
“Yeah. I’m reading one now where high schoolers on a field trip get trapped in a fancy hotel and play tag with a murderer. I love it,” she explained.
“Th-that’s cool,” I replied.
If Kirino reads death game manga, maybe I should’ve just admitted I read harem stuff.
As we talked, we ran into other students walking to school, and their stares gathered on us.
“Isn’t that Kinui-san? Who’s the guy next to her?” one said.
“No way, Kinui-san has a boyfriend? My dreams are shattered,” another complained.
“Let’s just take care of that guy next to her,” someone else muttered.
I heard lots of jealous voices.
Man, this feeling of superiority is amazing!
“Morning, Kirino-chan! …Huh? You got a boyfriend?” a girl said.
It was Yoshirin Kikujima, the girl closest to Kirino in our class.
Her baby face stood out, and since she was always with Kirino, she seemed cheerful and kind.
“Yup. This is Kiyoto-kun from our class,” Kirino confirmed.
“Wow, really?” Yoshirin said.
She smiled, but I didn’t miss the quick glare she shot at me.
“Well, I’ll wait in the classroom,” she said, reading the mood and leaving.
“Oh, the warning bell’s about to ring, Kiyoto-kun. Let’s walk a bit faster,” Kirino urged.
“Y-yeah,” I agreed.
And so began the first day with my new girlfriend.
