Chapter 10: The Second Bento
“Sorry, Kirino-san!”
“No worries, don’t mind it. I was the one who invited you to walk to school together anyway.”
In the end, yesterday, I had Fuzuha not only do the tutorial but also progress a bit in the story.
Of course, the difficulty was high, so by the time we cleared a good stopping point, it was already four in the morning.
Well, it was my fault for getting carried away and asking Fuzuha to progress the story too, but she was surprisingly enthusiastic about playing.
“But, Kiyoto-kun, you oversleeping is unexpected.”
“Y-Yeah.”
“Yeah, because you never had a tardy or absence, right? I kept count.”
I never imagined she paid that much attention to me to keep count.
“Well, like you said, I never overslept before, but I stayed up late yesterday.”
“Oh? Studying?”
“No, playing games with my little sister.”
Speaking of which, I wonder if Fuzuha is okay?
When I went downstairs this morning, I was rushing to get ready for school and didn’t look around much, so I don’t know if she was already up.
But I think her middle school has a pretty early start time.
“You know that game everyone’s been calling brutal lately? I had my sister help me with it, but she’s surprisingly good at games, so we ended up playing late into the night…”
“…”
The more I talked, the more I noticed Kirino-san’s expression turning blank.
She stared at me, but the smile from earlier was gone.
Her eyes looked like a ghost clearly caught on a horror video.
“Uh, Kirino-san…?”
“…!? Oh, sorry! I zoned out for a bit.”
Kirino-san zoning out? Is that even possible?
“Um, are you okay? If you’re feeling sick, I can carry you.”
“N-No, I’m fine!”
She didn’t seem to be forcing herself.
Come to think of it, didn’t she have that same expression during lunch yesterday?
“A-Anyway, let’s hurry!”
“Y-Yeah.”
She was in a rush but didn’t forget to hold my hand firmly.
As usual, when we passed Joto Nishi students, I heard some gossip.
I used that as fuel to boost my energy for the day.
“Now, attendance… Wait, Akasata is absent?”
During morning homeroom, when I heard Kouta Akasata was absent, I felt no guilt at all.
At lunch, I ate with Kirino-san on the rooftop again.
Today’s bento had ginger pork in the side dish section.
Even though it’s my favorite, Rinka adjusted it so I wouldn’t get bored.
“…Is that bento made by your little sister…?”
“It’s slightly different from yesterday… You noticed?”
“Yeah. I roughly remember the layout.”
Kirino-san seemed a bit less energetic…
“Um, hey!”
Suddenly, Kirino-san stood up.
“I… I made a bento for you again today, Kiyoto-kun…”
“What? Again?”
I told her yesterday that my sister always makes my bento…
Oh, but I ate a little—well, a lot—of hers, so maybe that’s why she made one again today.
“So… I’d be happy if you ate even a little…”
Kirino-san looked into my eyes.
Her eyes showed she truly made it with me in mind.
“Okay, then I’ll eat a bit like yesterday.”
“Yeah! Thank you!”
When I agreed, Kirino-san opened another bento box.
Inside were things I’d like, like wieners and ham, all arranged cutely.
Kirino-san picked up a heart-shaped ham with her chopsticks and held it toward me.
“Here, say ‘ahh’!”
“!?”
Kirino-san was feeding me!?
And a heart-shaped ham!
I didn’t hesitate and chomped the ham.
It was like a “chomp!” sound effect as I ate it in one bite.
“Come on, Kiyoto-kun, next one!”
Kirino-san immediately fed me another.
In the end, her strategy made me eat almost her entire bento.
“S-Sorry. I said just a bit, but I made you eat so much…”
“I-It’s fine, it’s fine…”
It wasn’t fine at all.
Now I couldn’t touch Rinka’s bento.
Even though she warned me not to leave any yesterday, if I left some today, she might bring a samurai sword instead of a bamboo one.
While walking back to class with Kirino-san, I thought about strategies for the afternoon.

Chapter 11: Joint Class (1)
“Kiyoto-kun, are you okay? You were in the bathroom for the whole period.”
“K-Kirino-san… No, I’m totally fine.”
In the end, I snuck out during fifth period and ate Rinka’s bento in the bathroom.
I took my time eating, but I still felt like throwing up.
And, of all things, sixth period was PE.
“Can you do PE? Should I tell the teacher?”
“Y-Yeah, please do.”
Just then, a classmate’s voice spoke up.
“Hey, isn’t today’s PE a joint class with Class 1-A?”
“Yeah, yeah. I think we’re doing endurance running together.”
“Endurance running is such a drag.”
“But isn’t Class 1-A full of super pretty girls?”
“Exactly! I’m into that kendo club girl.”
Class 1-A…?
Kendo club girl…?
“N-No, I’ll join PE!”
“Huh? But you don’t have to push yourself…”
“N-No, I’m not great at sports, so I need to participate to keep my grades up.”
“If you say you’re fine, okay… but tell me right away if you feel bad.”
“Y-Yeah. Thanks, Kirino-san.”
That was close.
Class 1-A is Rinka’s class!
If she saw me sitting out PE, I’d get another long, pointless lecture today.
And if she asked why I sat out, what would I even say?
If I made something up, she’d see through it instantly, but if I told the truth…
“Oh, I need to change. See you on the field!”
Kirino-san headed to the girls’ changing room.
Watching her back, I got a bad feeling about what was coming.
“Okay, as announced before, today Class 1-A and Class 3-E will do endurance running together.”
This high school’s field, being in the city, isn’t very big.
It’s about half the size of a standard track.
“Today, boys and girls will run together. First, first-years run, then third-years. You’ll pair up to time each other, but make sure to pair with someone from a different grade.”
Here it comes.
The system that automatically leaves someone out.
Most students know people from other grades through clubs or committees, so pairing up is easy for them.
But I don’t know a single first-year’s face or name.
I’m definitely going to be left out—
“Found you, Kiyoto.”
—not, it seems.
“Why are you resting in the shade? Don’t you need to warm up?”
Rinka, with her usual sharp glare, looked down at me sitting in the shade.
“Uh, so my partner is—”
“Obviously me.”
Well, sure, we’re siblings, so it makes sense to pair up, but with Rinka’s level, tons of guys from her class would probably flock to her.
“Come on, warm up already.”
“…Yes.”
Rinka forcibly dragged me out of the shade.
I glanced at Kirino-san.
She was already chatting happily with a bunch of first-year girls.
I could tell from their gestures that a lot of guys were eavesdropping.
“Hey, what are you looking at? We’re running now.”
“Oh, sorry, sorry… Wait, running where?”
“Obviously one lap around the field.”
…
“All-out?”
“Of course.”
Rinka’s idea of a warm-up isn’t exactly a warm-up, which is the problem.
“———”
Rinka really ran a full lap around the field at top speed.
Her form was perfectly graceful, and students on the field couldn’t help but stare.
Naturally, no one noticed me jogging slowly behind her.
Even Rinka wouldn’t turn around while running, right?
I could just take a shortcut—
“Kiyoto-kun!”
As I tried to cut corners, I heard Kirino-san’s voice from far away.
When I looked toward her voice, she was already right next to me.
“Are you okay? You looked like you were going to throw up earlier, and now you’re running this much.”
“W-Well, I’m taking it easy and cutting corners, so I’m fine.”
I felt a bit nauseous, but it wasn’t too bad.
“…Is that your little sister?”
Kirino-san looked at Rinka, who had already finished running.
“Oh, crap!?”
If I stayed here, Rinka would notice I was slacking.
Luckily, she was catching her breath with her hands on her hips, not noticing me yet, but that could change any second.
“S-Sorry, I have to go back.”
I apologized to Kirino-san and ran toward Rinka.
While running, I felt a chilling shiver from behind, but I pretended not to notice and hurried to Rinka.

Well well, that would be fun eh…
A good battle royale of Yandere
