Chapter 24: An Unexpected Quartet from the Same Class!?
I arrived at school and started studying as usual.
“Ah! So you got here early after all.”
Izumi spotted me and came over to talk.
“Morning, Izumi.”
“Yeah, morning.”
“Izumi, you said ‘you got here early,’ but we didn’t have any promise to come together or anything, right?”
“Yeah. I just wanted to come with you.”
“Then, from now on, when you don’t have morning practice, should we come to school together?”
“Yeah!”
We made a promise to come to school together, but once morning practice starts, that promise will probably go out the window.
“Ryu, Izumi-chan, morning.”
While I was talking with Izumi, Tomoya arrived next.
“Hey, morning.”
“Morning.”
Tomoya put his bag down at his seat and came over.
“What were you talking about?”
“Hm? Oh, just whether we’d come to school together.”
“Yeah, yeah. School’s gonna be fun from now on!”
Izumi, stop that—you’ll give people the wrong idea.
“You two are as close as ever.”
“Well, we’ve been childhood friends forever.”
“I like Ryu-kun whether we’re childhood friends or not!”
“Hehe, Izumi-chan’s so bold.”
What is she saying?
“I like Izumi as a friend too, you know.”
“That’s not what I meant…”
Izumi muttered something under her breath, but I couldn’t hear it.
“Did you say something?”
“No, nothing at all.”
“I see. Good.”
What was Izumi trying to say?
“Impure romance has no place at school.”
“Wah!”
Machida-san was suddenly right behind us.
Please stop appearing like that—it’s startling.
“Ah, Toyomi-chan, morning.”
“Toyomi-san, good morning.”
“Good morning, Morikawa-san, Sunagawa-san.”
“You don’t have to be so formal.”
Izumi’s right—Machiada-san’s greeting is super stiff.
“Then… good morning, Izumi-san, Tomoya-kun.”
“Hmm, still kinda stiff, but that’ll do for now!”
“But you don’t need the ‘-san’ or ‘-kun.’”
Like Tomoya said, adding ‘-san’ and ‘-kun’ makes it feel stiff.
“No, that’s still too difficult for me. More importantly, Ichikami-kun still hasn’t greeted me.”
“G-good morning.”
I forgot.
It’s the usual, but Machida-san is still scary.
“Good morning?”
Huh?
“Good morning, sir?”
“Good morning.”
Huh?
“Please wait a moment. I don’t understand what you mean.”
“For someone like Ichikami-kun to be so overly familiar.”
Eek!
“Toyomi-chan, that’s going too far. Poor Ryu-kun.”
Izumi, are you an angel?
Aki is a goddess above angels though!
“You may have a point.”
Well, as long as she gets it.
Come to think of it, our current student council members are these four from the same class.
Is that okay? Four out of six from one class.
“Class is about to start, so let’s take our seats.”
The three who’d gathered at my desk went back to theirs.
Ah!
I forgot to ask Izumi about dinner today.
Well, no helping it.
I decided I’d ask during the next break, and went to class.
