She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 49
Don’t Bother
“Can I ask you about what happened?”
With the sound of dragging chair in front of me, he asked me that question. I knew that he would ask me such question, I couldn’t help but to chuckle at it.
“Kisaragi told you, didn’t she?”
“I knew you’d figure it out.”
Mikinori’s smiling expression slowly changes into a forlorn expression as he opens his bento.
“I thought I’d ask you just in case.”
“Hearing it from me won’t change what had happened.”
“Well, if you say so. Itadakimasu.”
“…itadakimasu.”
The sound of wooden chopsticks breaking snap echoes through the room. It seems that Mikinori is having a convenience store bento today.
“I was really surprised when Nao-chan suddenly apologized to me. I don’t care if introducing her to you has made things worse, but you don’t have to get all worked up over something you can’t solve.”
“Kisaragi is really honest with you, isn’t she?”
“Are you jealous of it?”
“Stupid.”
He said it with a serious face.
“Jokes aside, the fact that she isn’t here right now is because you still can’t solve the problem, right?”
Indeed, if you ask me, it would be normal to feel awkward after talking about such thing. Mikinori might think that she isn’t here right now is because I am too afraid to meet her face to face. But when she said that she was fine then, she left the classroom holding the ‘KEEP OUT’ sign in her hand with a disappointed look on her face. If there’s a backstory into that one, I’d like to know how and when did she learn to put on a slick poker face like that.
“That’s not it.”
Besides, we’ve been through a lot before. Of course, I can see that saying that would be troublesome, so I just shake my head.
“What?”
“What’s with that long pause?”
“If you’re going to worry about something trivial like that, can you go find someone else?”
“You know what? I don’t really have anyone special to me.”
Then He turns his gaze towards me. I think every person is special in their own way.
“I don’t want you to tell me that.”
“You are special for Nao-chan as she is to you.”
“I don’t like the way you say it.”
He said that kind of thing in a really bad time. It’s a good thing that the classroom is really noisy so no one noticed what he said, if someone were to hear that, it would cause a misunderstanding. No, I think someone might have misunderstood what we’re saying already.
“I think Nao-chan knows what you’re thinking.”
“She read your thoughts about it!?”
“Conversations don’t go exactly as simulated, I can’t be helped!”
“Are you seriously telling me that?”
“The look on your face doesn’t show you’re fine.”
What’s wrong with my face? I actually want to say something back, but all I can see on Mikinori’s eyes is the reflection of my face. I look really lonely.
“…are you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, yeah, I’m fine. Let’s eat our lunch.”
I finally realized that I had stopped eating my bento and put down my chopsticks.
“Okay then.”
‘It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine.’ I repeat those words over and over again in my mind. Then I grab my chopsticks and gobbled the rest of my bento.
