She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 46
Wish Day
A few days later, Kisaragi wishes she can’t read other people’s thoughts anymore. She has made up her mind. Kisaragi told me that she had told Mikinori to come and she had made sure he will come. So I just told her that I understand and wait for Mikinori together with her. We’re waiting for Mikinori at the park after school. She thought that meeting here would be appropriate for the topic of the conversation. Mikinori who eventually arrived seems surprised by Kisaragi’s atmosphere. That’s right, Kisaragi looks very fierce as if she is about to challenge Mikinori into a duel, but she also looks really fragile like a cat who is about to disappear on its verge of death. Mikinori stood in front of her and apologized for being late.
“It’s fine. It may take a little longer than you think. Is it okay with you?”
“Yeah, no problem.”
“Okay then.”
She takes a deep breath.
“Mikinori-san…”
I couldn’t believe my own ears when I heard a voice so weak and fragile coming out from Kisaragi’s mouth.
“I need to talk to you and I want to ask you a favor.”
Is it only my imagination or it is true that her hands are trembling while holding her skirt? In order not to block Mikinori’s thoughts and watch over her as she says her wish to Mikinori, I’m standing a little far away from her, so I’m not too sure with my vision.
“What’s wrong?”
Mikinori asked.
Our gaze suddenly met, I nodded to him with the intention of asking him to please wait and listen to what she has to say. He turns his gaze to Kisaragi and wait for her next words. Although it is unclear if he really understands what I meant or not. After a long pause, she finally took another deep breath to regain her composure and started talking again.
“I know what other people are thinking.”
He smiles back kindly.
“After hearing what I said Mikinori must think ‘I already know’, right? It’s amazing that you already know I can read other people’s minds. I can’t believe that you don’t even have any doubts at my words.”
“If you say a joke with such a sad face like that, I might get a little scared of Nao-chan.”
Mikinori’s words soften the atmosphere and Kisaragi’s mood at once. A small laugh can be heard.
“It’s kind of embarrassing that you know everything I’m thinking.”
“What Mikinori has in mind is really interesting.”
“Is that so? That’s great then.”
“I learned about serenity and peace when I met Hokuto-san. When he is around, I can no longer read other people’s thoughts than his.”
“So that’s why you’ve always been around him.”
Kisaragi nodded at Mikinori’s words. Mikinori truly understands Kisaragi’s situation. I’m worried that would it be okay, even I who isn’t involved in the conversation is getting worried. No, it’s possible that Mikinori already knew everything. Perhaps Kisaragi also noticed this by reading his thoughts. They continue their conversation as I speculate on what’s going on below the surface.
“I understand. So, what is your favor?”
“I finally thought that I just want to live a normal life, I don’t want to read anyone’s thoughts. So let me ask you, do you know anyone who has experience in supernatural powers.”
He raised his right index finger.
“I know one person.”
He opened his bag and pulled out a photo from a clear file. Because I’m really curious who it is, I get closer to look at the picture.
“This is…”
“A group photo of my class taken during the first semester. She seems to has a lot of experience at that sort of thing.”
Mikinori points at a female student whose smile seemed to shine brighter than anyone else in the photo. I can’t believe she is really close to us. I had thought this before, but I can’t help but to feel that the whole world revolves around her too much.
“I’ve seen her somewhere before.”
I thought that it’s too good to be true, but she certainly looks familiar.
“When you think that way, it makes me feel the same as well.”
“Well, we’re classmates after all, so I guess we’ve passed each other a few times before.”
“I’m not really good at remembering faces of the people I pass each day. If she looks familiar, I think I’ve met her up close and had some sort of conversation with her…”
With Mikinori’s permission, I pick up the photo and seriously stare at it. Her hair, her face, her uniform, her hand making a peace sign.
“Ah…”
Eventually I remember something about her.
“Do you remember something?”
I nod at his words confidently. I’m certain it’s her.
“She’s the person who eats the albedo part of a tangerine.”
