She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 36
Throwing Note Day
The bell rings indicating the end of the fourth period. It’s lunchtime. Making sure that the teacher had left the classroom, I lean on the backrest of my seat. I actually feel really sleepy, but I can’t stand the hunger I’m feeling right now.
Bam!
It’s sounds like something had been slammed down. The classroom’s atmosphere is really tense, it’s really different from a few moments ago. My hand that was about to take out my bento is instantly retracted.
“Do you know what this is about?”
Looking towards the source of the voice, I see a strange man standing in front Kisaragi’s seat. Judging from the colour of his slippers, I assume he’s a senior student. The people around us is divided into two groups, those who are watching in fear and those who are walking away as if saying they don’t want to be a part of this. It reminded me of a conversation I had with her the other day. I stood up quietly between them to protect her as a shield.
“If you can read other people’s thoughts, then you know what this is about.”
Kisaragi doesn’t answer to the question. She is just staring at his face. She has nothing but a sad expression on her face. But depending on how you see it, she is having a pitiful look on her face rather than a sad expression. Now how does he perceive this, he continues talking in an irritated tone.
“I heard that you are the owner of this notebook. If you’re the one who owns it, let’s have a little talk.”
What is he talking about? It’s as if he is threatening. Kisaragi’s expression remained unchanged and she still hasn’t said anything yet.
“Even it’s not you who owns this book, you know who wrote it right? Tell me, now.”
“I won’t tell you.”
That’s the word that finally came out of her mouth. Damn it. The way you say it, you’re not denying that you know the owner of the book. He looks really irritated at Kisaragi’s words.
“Why not?”
“I promised not to tell.”
You keep your promises in a weird way. I think the person who owns it doesn’t want to have the book on her. Well, it is what it is. The person who is talking to Kisaragi with an angry expression is a senior student, he is a big guy. What should I do if he resorts to violence like Yuna Sato did the other day? I’m not sure I can win over him.
“Just take a look on this notebook, don’t you think it’s odd?”
The people around us rushed out as if saying it’s time to leave.
“As I thought, people’s thoughts are various and they aren’t same to one another. If you don’t want to have it, should I just throw it away for you?”
Kisaragi tilts her head as I’m wondering if there is some chance to turn things around.
“That’s not what I meant!!!”
He slams Kisaragi’s desk and Kisaragi’s shoulders shook, but her face remains expressionless. He must not like that, he pushed the desk to the side with great force. I decided that it wouldn’t be a good idea to go any further, so I intervened.
“Wait.”
I blocked him with my hands as if to protect Kisaragi.
“What? You’re just taking advantages of Kisaragi.”
Well, I don’t know if they think that way of me.
“Why? Why don’t you use your ability to help people with their love affairs? Why don’t you help them?”
I’m kind of confused at what he said, but I think I get a gist of it. He thinks Kisaragi is still involved in the love cupid thing. Maybe it’s because words spread slower in different grades.
“I know who is the owner of the notebook. I’ve been told not to tell anyone, but I will if it comes to that.”
“Then…”
“What are you going to do if you know the owner of that notebook?”
I interrupted his words and stare deep into his eyes. His eyes look stagnant, they can be described as dead eyes.
“Will you chastise, condemn, or scorn her? Or will you just accept it and move on after knowing the person she loves?”
“Huh, love?”
“Yeah, it’s called a love affair.”
“If so, that’s even better!”
“We’re currently declining all requests, please take it back.”
Holding my fists tightly, killing all my fears, I kept staring deeply into his eyes. I followed his eyes every time they waver. His eyes are much easier to follow than before. His face gone pale and he seems trying to say something with his lips wagging.
“…damn it.”
Finally, he left the classroom by slamming the door vigorously. With the lingering summer heat, I think it’s a good idea to leave them alone.
“Hokuto-san.”
“Yeah?”
“She doesn’t like him.”
“Huh?”
I thought the name written in the notebook is that senior’s name, but apparently not. Does that mean, she is in love with another person?
“It’s a love triangle?”
“It’s a love quadrangle.”
“…what?”
That’s really complicated and troublesome. What kind of love arrows is that relationship made of? I don’t want to know, and the less I know, the better off I am.
“Well anyway, thank you. In return, would you like some tangerines?”
This time, I accepted her offer and she gave me one of the tangerines. The tangerine she gave me is terribly sour.
