She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 34
Friend Day
After the school ends, it’s only me and Kisaragi left in the classroom. I thought someone would stalk us even after the school ends, but that’s not the case. You would like to read other people’s thoughts, but you wouldn’t want your thoughts to be read. I know it’s nice to know what other people are thinking, but I don’t like the idea of it.
“Hokuto-san.”
As usual, she stood up and takes a closer seat to me, looking her approaching me, I stood up as well.
“Stay where you are.”
Her eyes opened wide for a moment.
“…is that a threat?”
I shook my head.
“Please, I want to ask you something, but I don’t want you to read my mind when I’m asking it.”
Of course, I can’t force her to not read my mind. I looked into her eyes hoping she would agree. After a moment of silence, she nodded.
“Okay, so then, what do you want to ask?”
“Let me get straight to the point. Are you willing to cancel their requests?”
“Why?”
She tilts her head expressionlessly.
“I can only think that Kisaragi is being taken advantage of right now. It’s dangerous to be involved in other people’s love affairs, you’ll never know what might happen.”
There is even a famous saying that anyone who interferes with a person’s love affair should be kicked to death by a horse. It’s better to back out now before it becomes something big.
“Of course, I know I’m the one who puts you into that situation. Let me apologize, I’m sorry.”
I bowed my head deeply until she asked me to look up to her. She looks into my eyes and I continue to speak.
“If you need anything, I’ll be there for you. You can use me as a shield.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“I’ll be really glad if you agreed to do so… Eh, you agreed?”
“Yeah, I’ll cancel all of their requests.”
I didn’t expect her to agree right away, I thought that I’ll need to persist her for sometime. So I’m a little disappointed when she agreed right away.
“I agreed to do so because it’s for Hokuto-san.”
“Huh?”
She agreed to do so for me?
“If it’s not for Hokuto-san, it’ll be a different story. I’ll be sure to convey my polite apologies and tell them that I cancelled their requests.”
With that said, she took out her smartphone and began to nimbly tap on the screen. I watched her doing it in dismay. Eventually she put her smartphone back to her bag, it seems that she had finished telling them. Then she begins to talk.
“That’s pretty straight forward.”
“If I’m in your position, it’s something I wouldn’t do either, there are lots more things that you can’t tell just by reading their thoughts.”
I certainly said it when we accepted the previous request. But in spite of it, we helped him anyway, what was I thinking?
“It’s my fault.”
I know it’s my fault, but I feel even more guilty when I see her.
“It’s okay. I’m the one who accepted it, I should take some responsibility for it as well. But it’s hard to do something for a friend huh?”
Her eyes lit up as if a thought had suddenly occurred to her.
“By the way.”
“What is it?”
“May I sit next to you now?”
I can feel my heart beats faster just from that one question. Why does her eyes lit up when she asked me if she can sit next to me? Of course, I know when you’re beside me other people’s thoughts won’t flow into your mind.
But why?
“Because we’re friends.”
“Because we’re friends?”
“Yup. …oh, there’s something I want to tell you! I heard they are selling tangerine tarts!”
“That’s great.”
That’s really great.
